Part 1: "Into the Abyss"
---
The entrance to the facility was hidden beneath an abandoned subway station, its rusted gates covered in graffiti. Miko peered down the dark staircase, the air thick with damp and mildew.
"Let me guess," she said, gripping her daggers. "You've been here before?"
Bai stood behind her, his silver hair catching the faint light filtering through the cracks in the station's ceiling. "Of course. But last time, I wasn't invited."
Miko glanced back at him, suspicion etched on her face. "Why would rogue hunters and demons work together?"
"Because desperation makes strange bedfellows," Bai replied, his tone dismissive.
"Miko, you hearing me?" Mei's voice crackled in her earpiece. "I've hacked into the building's network, but security's tight. They've got motion sensors and heat scanners everywhere. This isn't amateur hour."
"Great," Miko muttered. "Anything else I should know?"
"Yeah," Mei said, her voice grim. "Once you're in, I won't be able to guide you much. They've got signal blockers past the main entry."
Miko sighed. "Guess we're flying blind."
Bai smirked, gesturing toward the stairs. "Ladies first."

Part 2: "The Serpent's Web"
---
The facility was colder than Miko had expected, its steel walls humming faintly with the buzz of electricity. Dim lights flickered overhead, casting eerie shadows.
"Keep your voice down," Bai said softly as they moved through the corridor.
"I'm not the one with loud boots," Miko shot back, her eyes scanning for any signs of movement.
They passed a series of glass chambers, each filled with a sickly green liquid. Inside, distorted figures floated, their bodies a grotesque mix of human and demon features. Miko stopped, her stomach turning.
"What… what is this?" she whispered.
"Experiments," Bai said, his voice devoid of emotion. "The hunters are trying to harness demonic power. Enhance humans. Create something stronger."
Miko's grip on her daggers tightened. "This is insane. The Guild would never allow this."
Bai raised an eyebrow. "Are you so sure about that?"
Before she could respond, a loud clang echoed down the hall. They froze, their eyes locking.
"Move," Bai hissed, grabbing her arm and pulling her into a side room.

Part 3: "Ghosts of the Past"
---
The room was small, filled with old files and dusty equipment. Bai closed the door behind them, leaning against it as he caught his breath.
"What's your deal, anyway?" Miko demanded, her frustration boiling over. "You seem to know way too much about all this."
Bai's expression darkened. "Because I've seen it before."
Miko crossed her arms, waiting.
He sighed, running a hand through his silver hair. "Centuries ago, hunters captured my mother. She was… like me. Half-demon, half-human. They wanted to understand how someone like her could exist, so they experimented on her. Tortured her." His voice dropped, tinged with bitterness. "She didn't survive."
Miko's anger faltered, replaced by a pang of guilt. "I… I didn't know."
"Why would you?" Bai said coldly. "You're a hunter. All you know is what they've told you. The rest is buried in lies and blood."
Miko hesitated, her resolve shaken. "Then why are you helping me?"
Bai's golden eyes met hers, unwavering. "Because you're different. Or at least, I hope you are."

Part 4: "A Family Secret"
---
Miko rifled through the files on the desk, her hands trembling as she scanned page after page. Most were technical reports, filled with jargon she couldn't understand. But then she found it—a file with her family's name on it.
Her heart pounded as she opened it, her eyes darting over the words. "Subject 17… successful integration of demonic traits… enhanced reflexes…"
"What is it?" Bai asked, stepping closer.
"It's about my parents," Miko said, her voice barely audible. "They were part of this. They were… experimenting on themselves."
Bai's expression remained stoic, but there was a flicker of understanding in his eyes. "That explains a lot."
Miko glared at him. "Like what?"
"Your instincts. Your speed. You've felt it, haven't you? That you're not quite… ordinary."
She shook her head, backing away. "No. This… this can't be true."
Before Bai could respond, an alarm blared, red lights flashing throughout the facility.

Part 5: "The Escape"
---
The facility erupted into chaos, the blaring alarm accompanied by the sound of boots and guttural growls. Miko gripped her daggers, her pulse racing.
"Looks like we've overstayed our welcome," Bai said, his voice tinged with amusement.
"Not the time!" Miko snapped, turning to face the first wave of attackers.
A hunter lunged at her, and she moved on instinct, her daggers slicing through the air. She felt a surge of energy, her movements faster and more precise than ever before.
"What's happening to me?" she muttered, barely dodging another strike.
"Embrace it," Bai called, sending a blast of energy at a group of advancing demons. "It's the only way you'll survive."
Miko didn't have time to think. She fought with everything she had, the truth about her parents fueling her fury.
When the last enemy fell, she turned to Bai, her chest heaving. "This doesn't change anything. I'm still me."
Bai smiled faintly. "That's what they all say at first."
As they emerged into the night, the facility burning behind them, Miko couldn't shake the feeling that she was only beginning to understand the depths of her family's legacy—and her own power.
