Chapter 2 - (2) Monster Hunter

After leaving behind lumberjacks camp, 'Mercenary' had followed the trail, venturing deeper into this eery forest.

Sounds of night owl's and crickets gave way to unnatural silence, with occasional snapping of a branch and low growls filling the space.

Feeling as if someone or something was observing him, the man gulped.

'This is not good, I don't even know how to use this thing!' Merc touched the leather scabbard of his newly acquired sword, subconsciously.

This stalemate between him and this creature continued for an unknown amount of time but eventually signs of civilisation became visible.

'Torchlight! I am saved!' Was what the man had thought to himself before he entered the clearing and realised that the residents of this camp, were also slaughtered.

Despair briefly overtook him.

'I... Well let's at least find something useful.'

And so mercenary secured few jars of oil, couple unlit torches and some unopened provisions, whoever was here, it was clear they were taken advantage of. One thing was weird though, the man found traces of female clothing and cheap cosmetics but all the bodies he found belonged to men.

As he was about to ponder over this fact, a pair of glowing eyes appeared at the edge of the clearing, tar like fur and sharp white fangs. It disappeared as quickly as it made itself visible. Mercenary rubbed his eyes.

'This... this is not good. Huh what's this?' His attention was swiftly shifted to visible tracks in the mud.

'Someone was dragged this way, multiple sets of feet but oddly small.'

Having to decide between walking into the darkness where an unknown beast was lurking or following trail, it became a quick and easy choice.

Sickly, crunching sounds echoed throughout the forest as the man followed a trail left in mud.

'Whatever it was, sounds like it's occupied with the remnants of those poor people, your sacrifice will be remembered.' For some reason he drew an imaginary cross infront of him as if it was a habit.

The trail led him to a cave, where trail ended but weak, flickering light was casting ominous shadows.

Unsheathing his new, heavy and uncomfortable sword, he slowly entered inside. Clearly primitive totems flanked him with weird runes etched onto its wooden surface.

He heard unfamiliar to him sounds but before he could focus on them, his face was reunited with cold stone ground, tripping over a string that was connected to human like bones, they began shaking and making noise.

'So why am I here? Why can't I remember anything? Fuck.' As he was about to complain some more about his fate, a pair of sickeningly wet footsteps became audible.

He hid himself inside the surrounding shadows as a small, hunchback, green creature sloppily came out from the darkness.

It was making incomprehensible noises as it was scanning the wire.

'This is my chance!' Swiftly, the mercenary jumped out of his hiding spot and clumsily thrusted his sword into the back of this monster.

With a slow, sickening sensation of meat and bones being separated from one another, a fountain of green blood splattered beneath the two and his sharp sword was stained with bits of green flesh and liquid.

As if grasping for air, the monster attempted calling for aid but was unable to gather any oxygen into his lungs.

It's life slowly extinguishing, with the visible consciousness drifting away, a clear shock etched on its face, slipping of the slick blade it quickly fell on stone ground.

'Yes! I finally did it!' Mentally exhausted he gathered his strength. Slumped against the stone cold wall, catching breath, adrenaline rushing through his veins. Green blood dripping of his blade, creating a trail of slaughter that was about to descend on the unaware monsters.

Oddly enough, the man felt nothing after killing another being.

'Well, it was just a monster. He would kill me without hesitation... I think.' The man had a gut feeling that his life would end if he were to be a pacifist.

Meanwhile, high up in the sky a lustful woman wearing less clothing than a whore in brothel was facing a beautiful man that had similar to her features.

"Hah that is the first six I have seen you roll in the last century! It seems like your new pet had been blessed by God of luck!" His melodic voice bounced freely in this domain.

"Well my gamble finally paid off, brother. You have no idea how unpleasant that 'administrator' is. Ugh, so uptight." Her face soured before brightly liting up. "It's time for my faith to blossom once more." Her eyes drifted back inside the murky cave, observing a man that was gathering his courage.

After what seemed like eternity, he forced himself to venture deeper. Eventually reaching a small cavern and what he saw there shocked him.

A group of similar, green creatures surrounding a naked woman, clearly forcing her to engage with them. Sickening sounds of flesh colliding with flesh and liquids being exchanged echoed throughout the cave, goblins as if in frenzy did not realise there was a bloodied man, tightly gripping his sword, standing at the entrance to their nest.

Mercenary slowly approached the goblins and his sword went to work. He looked more like an assassin than soldier, grabbing goblins by the scruf of their neck, pulling them back, away from the pack and stabbing these monsters right through their chest.

It wasn't until the last goblin, currently balls deep inside that woman, realise that something was wrong as all the noise died down. In his last moments, the goblin saw a swift sword approach his neck and before he could even squeak, monsters head got separated from its body, spraying a shower of green blood.

It was then that the mercenary noticed something was wrong. This woman had long ears, her lower stomach was glowing with a greenish rune and her eyes were filled with lust as her body launched itself towards the fake mercenary...
