Uncharted area:
I walked behind Elgor and infront of Callon while holding a large bow which was a bit heavy for me.
Our wandering souls walked infront of us and it seems we hit big.
I took a glance around our surroundings, the fog has gotten lighter and we could see a bit into the distance.
Huge tall square pillars rose into the sky, seemingly never-ending.
They were pure white in colour and golden engravings were carved into their surfaces.
'I assume it's ancient ellil.'
Yes our continent and language we speak are named the same, got a problem with that?
It was awkwardly quiet and it seems like neither of them are much of a talker.
Not like I mind though, peace quiet is nice.
My physical if I were to say was in decent condition.
The constant ache from my soul has lessened and I had also gotten used to it.
'Another perk.'
Maybe the gods weren't that bad.
'They are a lot of stories on how mortals ascended godhood.'
I've read quite a few of them and I would describe them as...
Interesting I guess.
'Defeat a god and you gain their authority but how?'
I know that it happened in the wierd dream inside the cocoon I had about the horned god.
But is that all there is to it?
Whatever let's forget about the gods for now and focus on the road.
The pillars were quite elegant but not being able to read the enscriptions and the engravings are a bit irritating.
I'm a guy who likes his history.
And I'm a guy who can never get bored.
If I'm bored, I would get up and go on a stroll while making scenarios and discussing the mysteries of the world inside my mind.
Pretty convenient right?
And this walk would continue for hours until legs started to hurt and I feel like not thinking anymore.
I also had recieved a lot of strange looks from my parents when I just kept on marching around my house.
It was quite funny infact they decided to take me to church fearing that I was possessed.
As if that would ever happen.
And yes inshort I like to rant a lot inside my mind.
We passed innumerable pillars, our anticipation flaring with each step.
'Speaking about my family, I'm pretty sure he has already returned to the capital.
"Elgor the wandering souls are acting wierd."
Callon said with a heavy tone.
This is something that has never happened before.
And if it did no one made it out alive to tell the tale.
The wandering souls were flickering as if it was a candle on its dying breath.
'If we lose them it's over for us.'
My grip on my mace tightened.
"I know."
Elgor nodded, it was better to go back and escape the lands of no returns to report this to the guild.
That may take weeks or months on the basis that the lands of no return takes you to a different area randomly everytime you pass another area's boundaries.
Even if Elgor chose to go back, the others wouldn't agree.
Well they would but they would atleast try to convince him.
So why isn't he turning around considering that they would agree with his decision?
Greed.
It's not a greed for money.
It's a greed for fame.
Callon seeing that Elgor didn't want to speak much further kept quiet.
Either ways they will die in the end unless the fountain of immortality is obtained.
But that isn't possible due to it being gatekeeped by the god of death.
'Why?' You may ask.
Well that's a story for another time.
Callon had been following Elgor for a long time and knows his personality very well.
He knew Elgor's greed for fame wouldn't let him turn back.
'Hypocritical of me to say that.'
Wasn't he also the same?
The constant humiliation he faced from his own race and the other ones made him develop an inferiority complex.
He wanted to be better.
Mistakes made him entirely insecure.
He was never given a name, He named himself and almost his entire life he was known as a-
'Mistake.'
A debauchers mistake.
But everyone has feelings right?
Sometimes they push you to the edge, constantly inching towards the deep drop below.
Sometimes you completely lose it.
He wanted to be hailed as a hero.
But a criminal who killed an Elven noble could never be a hero right?
'That was the first time that man had ever showed me kindness.'
Who would've expected his 'father' would save him from the guillotine?
And so the three greedy people of different races shared the same path.
The pillared path, which will lead them to fame.
********
Pillared path:
The fog got lighter and quite a distance could be seen with the naked eye.
"Well that's a suprise!"
Elgor's eyes were wide open with suprise.
It wasn't the same with Callon who was a bit more reserved.
The suprise wasn't ofcourse the the completely white triangle pyramid in the distance.
But it was the fog.
Even the strongest of each race couldn't gaze into the secrets of the fog.
This phenomenon of the fog getting lighter would be once in a lifetime for some people.
The fog has no origin nor end, it is ever-spreading like a plague,
The fog takes you to places unknown
Covered in treasures wating for owners alone,
Expect the unexpected and respect what shouldn't be disrespected,
A blessing in disguise alongside a curse in disguise.
It doesn't matter how mysterious it is all that matters is perspective and how you use it to your advantage.
"So are we heading towards the temple now?"
I asked with a bit of curiosity, maybe they would like to rest a bit to recover their energy.
Elgor seems to be in thought for a moment as he held his chin and shook his head after a few seconds.
"We will set up camp and head there after getting proper rest, it's not like it will run away right?"
Elgor said as he placed his bag down.
"Expect the unexpected."
Callon who was quiet the whole time finally spoke.
And yes it was very short.
"What if the unexpected thing is that it never was a pyramid and actually an cuboid that plays tricks on our brain?"
Elgor asked us a question which we were unable to answer.
Well that's a possibility considering that you should expect the unexpected.
And being paranoid is a good quality of mine.
I mean it's being careful with extra steps so why is it bad?
A few minutes later:
Around a fire lighten by dried wood three people huddled together, absorbing the heat while slurping on their porridge and veggies.
The night was quiet but exceptionally cold.
'The leather padding alongside the clothes I'm wearing inside would protect me well enough.'
Callon can use magic to keep himself warm, how do you think we lit a fire?
Use the primitive ways?
Well maybe if I was alone
But now I wasn't.
Now you may ask why is Callon huddled together with us when he can use magic?
Well he is doing it for the sake of it.
Why not?
I gazed towards the sky, stargazing has been one of my favourite hobbies since I was a child.
But what met my gaze wasn't the sky's pitch black canvas filled with the beauty of stars but a bluish-unending fog.
Ah, only 4 or something days has gone by but I have already gotten homesick.
