Chapter 14 - Falling

Uncharted area:

The resting time of the trio was short-lived due to their increasing curiosity on what they would find inside the temple.

They set out right after they had filled their bellies considering that they are not bringing their baggage inside and they don't know how long they would be inside there for.

Although they bought a bit of dried meat and water which could possibly last them for two days.

If they took too much it would weight them down during a dangerous predicament.

I tossed the bag filled with food into the hole dug by Callon and sat back on the ground exhausted.

We also had to watch out for beasts or unfriendly adventurers who might steal our food.

'That was the last bag.' I thought as I wiped the sweat away from my forehead with the back of my hand.

'I need a new helmet.'

I will try to trade for one with fellow adventurers or try to find it by exploring.

Considering that it has a hundred percent chance of being enchanted, it is not a bad idea.

But it would take too long.

"We're done here!"

After filling the hole Callon shouted towards Elgor who was scribbling something on his journal.

Yes every adventurer has a journal, it is not mandatory to carry one but it is an unspoken tradition.

I stood up and walked close to him, slowly peeking into his journal.

'Wow.'

His hand moved fluidly along the paper as he drawed a perfect picture of the temple onto his book.

"Cassian, it is not good to peek into other people's stuff without their permission."

Elgor said with a chuckle and I immediately withdrew my gaze.

The fog was still light and that pyramid seems to be the reason.

'K haven't heard of any pyramid shaped structure from the explorer pages."

Explorer pages are books that are filled with the reports and recounting of every adventurers.

It update twice a month but the issue is that we would have to leave the lands of no returns to get out hands on it.

I had the latest one with me but it has been lost during the forest incident.

Elgor put away his stuff back into his bag and stood up, he looked towards the elf who had finished filling in the hole and then towards the human who was staring at the pyramid absentmindedly.

A smile formed on his face as he asked, "So, shall we get going?"

The elf and the human nodded.

And thus the trio of different heights set out towards the temple.

********

I stared at the huge entrance of the temple.

It was twice the height of Callon and was as wide as Callon if he layed down horizontally.

And beyond the entrance stood darkness,

Seemingly absorbing light itself as it waited for foolish adventurers to enter it's maw.

Callon stood infront with a ball of flame foating above his hand as he waited for Elgor's signal.

My body was filled with excitement as I clutched onto my mace tightly.

And then Elgor gave the signal.

Callon threw the fireball into the darkness.

It was fast but slow enough to register it in my brain.

The light from the flame showed use the surroundings, a narrow hallway that stretched on endlessly.

The hallway was pure white and similar to the pillars it was adorned with the engravements of gold.

We stared at the fire as it flew away, as it became a small dot in our vision and as it disappeared from our vision.

We stood there as time ticked by, waiting for the thing that was lying inside.

Elgor gauntlet was glowing in red similar to got iron and yes it was enchanted.

Callon on the other hand was stretching out his how with a arrow made from flames.

We stood there for a long time, maybe half an hour or more.

The heat radiating from Elgor's gauntlets stopped and Callon had put his now away.

"It seems safe."

Elgor said and Callon took a step inside.

And I followed with Elgor behind me.

'The fire showed us the path forward and it didn't smoke out any hostile creatures.'

So it is either a safe place or an intelligent creature is lying inside.

But considering that this place is only infested with terror camels and demon goats it is a low possibility.

Intelligent beasts are strong and the area they live in would be infested with strong beasts too.

So it is a low possibility.

But as they say, expect the unexpected.

The walking forward was a quiet one, none of us speaking word not wanting to trigger an sound based trap nor any danger inside.

Callon's eyes were glowing blue, mana was densely focused there as he looked out for traps and tried to dismantle them.

The problem being that there were no traps in here.

Which was wierd but he kept on moving forward.

Elgor had an expressionless face as he followed Cassian, a veteran adventurer like him already knew something was off with this place the moment he saw how the fog and the wandering souls reacted.

But he still didn't turn back.

And thus the quiet walk through the hallway came to an end when they entered a huge room.

Callon's eyes blazed with mana as he identified his surroundings.

"We are inside a dome and there is something like an altar in the centre."

He informed his teammates as he walked towards the centre.

In the centre there was a raised platform with steps leading to it from four sides.

And a statue was present ontop, a pitch black statue of a woman covered robes, her long flowing hair and she had two blood red gems for eyes.

The flames in his hands had long disappeared leaving both Elgor and Cassian unable to see.

He was immediately awed by the statue.

The pitch black colour which was darker than the surrounding darkness and the red Ruby eyes which tugged on his heart.

'Shit, it's a mind altering spell.'

The worst kind of spell which leaves the target incapable of controlling their impulses.

The tug in his heart grew as his shaking hand neared the statue.

He tried his best to hold back but he was unable to do so.

The moment he made contact with the statue...

Nothing happened.

No, the surrounding solid objects turned gaseous and the feeling of falling overtook him.

He could hear the suprised yelp of Cassian and Elgor's cursing and he knew he was to blame.

'Well let's see where it takes us.'

Either death by falling or a new place to explore.
