Chapter Thirty-One Seemingly Happy Family Life
Sure enough, the super black disk given by Norton from other universes is truly powerful and convenient, allowing them to create their fake identities in no time. Both Norton and Gwen become transfer students at Brooklyn Vision Academy, and Rosa's nano battlesuit has a shrinking function similar to Ant-Man, enabling her to enter the academy with them.
But that will happen in a few days. In the meantime, they need to find a new place to live and wait for the plot to begin.
"Hiss~" When it came to paying the rent, Norton fumbled in his pockets. Now that he had a false identity, he realized he didn't bring any money. He usually never carried money while fighting criminals, assuming he'd return home after work, but now he needed money, which was a bit embarrassing.
The landlady pointed impatiently at the table. If he hadn't been handsome, she would have turned around and left. Gwen shook her head helplessly, and even their daughter Rosa looked at him suspiciously with her head tilted. Could it be that her father had no money?
"Swipe your card," Rosa said, perhaps unable to wait any longer. She took out a black credit card from her pocket and handed it to the landlady.
After the landlady took the credit card, she looked at Norton with strange eyes. It was her first time seeing a man have his daughter handle the money. "Ahem, uh, let's go up and look at the room," Norton said, pulling the corners of his mouth in a feigned smile as he looked at Gwen and the others. He walked into the elevator and waited for them. After the mother and daughter entered, the elevator closed.
"Doesn't father have a job yet?" Rosa asked.
"Ahaha, yes, Dad doesn't have a job yet, so it's normal to have no money, right?" Norton realized Gwen was looking at him with intriguing eyes and couldn't help but ask, "Are those eyes saying that I'm inferior?"
"Please, you are underestimating my cosmic Gwen's vision," Gwen said, waving with one hand and covering her mouth with the other to stifle her laughter. "No, no, no, I didn't say that. It's what you think."
"Xiao Wen, did Dad give you that credit card?" Gwen skillfully changed the subject, sparing Norton some embarrassment.
"Yeah, Dad said this card allows me to buy all kinds of delicious food and clothes that I like, but I don't know how much money is in it."
"Hey, this is the same as my Norton. He also gave me a card, but I didn't bring it."
Norton performed "Silence is Golden" next to him. He is truly the poorest among the four universes. The three of them went to the room they rented: one room for him, and one room for Gwen and Rosa, complete with a kitchen and a bathroom. It was getting late, and Rosa had already fallen asleep in the room.
In the living room, only Norton and Gwen were watching TV. Norton was boringly pressing the remote control, while Gwen was peeling an apple. "Oh, I've never felt so tired," he said, feeling vulnerable at his age. He would rather face ten supervillains than lose face in front of his daughter. Gwen kindly peeled an apple for him, at least to give him some comfort.
"In your universe, how are you and I doing?" Feeling bored, Gwen started a conversation with Norton. Her tone sounded like a parent's concern for their child's love life, which made Norton feel awkward. "It's not long since the relationship was confirmed," Norton answered truthfully. "Hmm, have you met Felicia?" Gwen said suddenly. Norton gave Gwen a strange look. Seeing his reaction, Gwen immediately understood. She narrowed her eyes slightly, drank her tea, and looked at Norton faintly.
"Sure enough, no matter which universe you are in, you are a big flirt," Gwen rolled her eyes, her tone extremely helpless. "I just asked Xiao Wen. Guess what she said? Not only Aunt Felicia, but many aunts are very close to Dad. It's exactly the same as my universe."
"Ahaha, maybe it's just the universe on your side," Norton said uneasily, eating the apple and avoiding Gwen's eyes. "Believe me, I thought so at the beginning. Felicia is just your beginning," Gwen said firmly. She combined what Rosa said about Norton's romantic life with her own understanding and concluded that these women would form an alliance.
"But don't worry, you will suffer soon." Gwen patted Norton reassuringly, then left the living room. She decided to take a shower and go to bed. "My god, what a hell of a day it is." Although he was happy to see his future daughter, Norton felt more vulnerable today than he had ever felt before. "I just hope it ends quickly, and then I can go home, wash, and sleep."
