Chapter 1 - CHAPTER 1

AUTHOR'S POV

A wave of nausea passed through Lena's head at the constant honking of automobiles due to the heavy traffic in the streets of New York City on the rainy Saturday night.

"Hey, some folks need to go to bed after a long day at work! What is all this fuss about?" A guy yelled to no one in particular while poking his head out the window of his Audi A8.

Lena let out an exasperated breath.

Five months of seeking a job as an accountant and yet, no good news.

As far as Lena could remember, she graduated as the valedictorian of her Master's degree in accounting and had a strong 4.2 CGPA in college. She should be able to find employment outside of being a neighborhood florist and salonist with that.

But, who was a middle-class woman in the realm of affluent people? Or at least, who was she against women with large boobs and asses?

Lena grabbed her knee, which was hurting from standing beside the road for too long while she waited for a cab. She burst into an excruciating laughter.

" Large boobs and ass." She laughed. " Not my fault I was born flat."

Some passers-by threw weird glances at her. She rolled her eyes at them.

Earlier, Luca Josh, the Josh family's final child, had written her an email at 5:30 a.m. asking her to be at his workplace by 7 p.m. He had viewed her résumé and the attractive face on her passport image and authorized her for a personal interview with him.

It was evident on Luca's blemish-free face that he was disappointed with what he'd seen when she stepped into his office, but it didn't stop him from making sexual passes at her. Lena told him she had a fiance, but he couldn't care less; he went as far as telling her the only way she could get the job was by spending a night with him.

Lena was anxious for a job, but not petty. She turned him down politely but when he body-shamed her, her mouth spoke venom. Two minutes later, Lena was kicked out of the building. Literally.

She blamed herself for not seeing the red flags earlier.

Ding.

Lena heard her phone's notification bell go off and reached into her high-waist skirt pocket to get it.

Her best friend, Abby, had sent her a WhatsApp message.

~ No time to call you. Currently about to dominate a sexy Italian stranger (insert blushing emoji). Hope you got the job! Yeah, and I just saw Drake entering a hotel room with a dishabille woman. I think you should come to The Joshes Hotel to check things out for yourself. Love you (insert twenty heart emojis)~

Lena spat out a hair from her hair and huffed before sending a message to her best friend.

~ Love you too and thanks for the update. I know what you are thinking. Drake is not cheating on me. He said he had a therapy session today at the hotel. ~

Lena sighed and added.

~ Make sure to use protection ^_^~

As if Lena's day couldn't get any better, upon tapping the send button, a car drove past her with great speed, sending muddy water over Lena's body and face.

Mouth agape and hands stretched out in shock and embarrassment, Lena's pointed gaze followed the car as it came to a sudden halt on the porch of one of Josh's many firms.

" Son of a bi…" Lena let the remaining letters go to blazes as she marched to the porch, exasperatedly.

" Mommy, I'm scared; look, there's a witch." A toddler said to his mom as he pointed at Lena who was busy boiling in anger at the driver's audacity.

' I may not be able to afford a fancy car or dress but I deserve some respect!" Lena fumed inwardly.

The diver who'd dared insult her pushed open the door of his polished silver Porsche ready to step out.

As soon as he stepped out of his car, a swarm of newscasters and paparazzi surrounded him.

Lena got buried in the crowd. She tried to navigate her way to the rude driver as struggled through the crowd.

Amid her struggle, she was able to catch a glimpse of the back of his head and the cross tattoo that ran from his neck into his black sleek two-piece that exuded power.

" Mister Josh, how is your mother's health? We got Intel that she has stage two prostate cancer. Is that true?"

"Mister Josh, are you finally finished voyaging and prepared to completely take over your father's company?"

So many questions yet he had no courtesy to answer any of them! Lena knew whoever the stranger was, he was related to the Joshes family, but she couldn't care less. All she wanted to do was give him a piece of her mind.

She finally got to the front of the crowd, and before she could reach the young Josh, she was held back by a giant bodyguard who Lena thought hyperbolically must be the grandson of BFG.

" Stay back!" He growled with his gave twisted into a grimace.

" I need to see that asshole who didn't have the courtesy to stop his freaking car and say sorry to me after driving his car on an unlawful speed limit and sending shit water over me!"

The guard looked appalled. He glanced over at his boss, who had noticeably heard what Lena had said since he had come to a complete halt.

The guard turned to Lena rapidly, trembling with anxiety that his boss would make a commotion if he saw the woman who had ridiculed his name.

" You must have lost it. Get out of here or I won't be responsible for whatever happens next. " He shoved Lena so hard she fell to the ground before The Josh could see who had the guts to call him an asshole.

The paparazzi didn't stop trying to get close to The Josh despite seeing Lena on the ground. She almost got stomped on but managed to get on her feet, unharmed.

She struggled for air and at that moment, she realized how she had embarrassed herself when many hateful eyes glared at her.

" Attention seeking much?"

" Elites, don't date the oppressed; go find someone in your class and stop embarrassing yourself!"

" Petty little thing."

Lena held her mini briefcase to her chest and tore out of the crowd. One moment, she decided to stand up for herself, and this happened.

Tears streamed down her cheeks as she walked home looking like someone who had survived World War two.

Gazing out at the enormous corporate structures around the streets, she sniffed and wiped away her tears.

As a child, she had always dreamed big. She dreamt of working for the Joshes' Companies, and she did work towards it. She burned as many candles as she could and stayed away from dating throughout her high school and college years just to receive this unfair treatment because she wasn't an elite.

Lena's fist clenched. Her jaw tightened as she sent two middle fingers to one of the Joshes' office buildings.

" Jokes on you because you just lost a very good accountant." She dropped her hand a scoffed. " Who am I kidding?"

Before Lena got home, her heels had already started to get bruised. She kicked off her stilettos, tossed them across the living room, and fell onto the couch.

She glanced at the mud stains on the beige-colored rug and then at her shoe. She knew she'd have to clean it off sooner or later. She wasn't a fan of untidiness so it tripped her off looking at her mess.

Lena peeled her ass lazily off the couch and cleaned the stain off the rug. She dusted off the dirt from her shoe and placed it in her shoe rack before heading to the shower and taking a hot bath, which gave her a bit of relief.

She returned to the living room, turned on the television, and was greeted with a commercial from the Joshes' company.

" If I ever get to see that asshole, I'll give him a piece of my mind." Lena scowled and turned off the television.

Her gaze constantly went to the front door as she awaited Drake, her fiance.

For the six months they've been dating and a month of being engaged, Drake had resided with Lena, but that didn't stop her from paying the complete house rent, utility bills, and funding all Drake's needs.

Lena stayed up till midnight waiting for her fiance but he didn't return.

He was always there to cuddle her and take her pains away when she got rejected and she hadn't needed him more than she did now.

She wanted him to make love to her and drive her crazy with his fingers. She'd never felt so horny in her life.

After waiting another hour and he didn't return, she decided to call him.

He said the therapy would end by midnight so he ought to have returned home minutes ago.

There was no answer.

Lena wanted to call again but Drake beat her to it.

Happy, she sat up and answered the call immediately.

" It's past midnight and you haven't returned. You owe me a lot for getting me so worried."

" I think you have to wait a little bit longer because your fiance here can't get enough of me." A female voice came through.

Lena raised a brow in confusion. She was about to ask who was speaking when the female spoke again.

" Look, I'm aware Drake has a fiancee. It's my job as a sex worker to bang him, but I don't want you to continue getting deceived by him."

Lena's heart started to beat fast. She rose to her feet and gripped the phone tightly.

" I don't understand what—"

" Thought I heard my phone ringing." Drake's voice came through, and after a second, Lena heard the sound of something crashing into a bed.

" Must be your imagination."

" Or maybe I'm too high from making love with you." Drake laughed so loud it shattered Lena's heart into pieces. " Stand on the bed and bend for me, would you? Be a nasty little prostitute, and don't scream till I tell you to."

" What about your fiancee? She'd get worried if you don't get home soon."

Drake chuckled ludicrously. " She will believe

any false story I tell her like the naive little slut she is. If not for the money she's giving me, I would have taken you as my bride in her place."
