PAIN BEHIND THE BEAUTIFUL FACE

Amahle's pov
We drove for hours, the silence in the car only broken by the occasional rustle of a bag or the hum of the engine. I stared out the window, watching as the city gave way to rolling hills and eventually, to dense forest.
Finally, my father spoke up, his voice breaking the silence. "We're almost there," he said, his eyes flicking to the rearview mirror. "Just a few more minutes."
I nodded, feeling a sense of relief wash over me. We were finally going to be safe.
The car turned off the main road, onto a dirt track that wound its way through the forest. The trees grew closer together here, casting deep shadows that made it difficult to see.
Suddenly, the car stopped, and my father turned off the engine. "We're here," he said, his voice low and serious.
I looked around, trying to see where we were. But all I could see was trees, stretching out in every direction.
"Where are we?" I asked, feeling a sense of unease.
My father smiled, his eyes crinkling at the corners. "We're home," he said. "At least, for now."
