PAIN BEHIND THE BEAUTIFUL FACE
INSERT 27
Amahle's pov
I looked around, trying to take in our new surroundings. We were in a small clearing, surrounded by trees that seemed to stretch up to the sky. In the center of the clearing was a small cabin, its wooden walls weathered to a soft gray.
My father got out of the car, stretching his arms over his head. "Welcome to our new home," he said, smiling at me and Lungelo.
Lungelo and I exchanged a skeptical look. The cabin looked small and rustic, and I couldn't help but wonder if it was safe.
But my father seemed confident. He led us inside, showing us around the small space. There was a living room with a fireplace, a kitchen with a small stove, and two bedrooms.
"It's not much," my father said, "but it's home. And it's safe."
I nodded, trying to feel a sense of relief. We were finally safe, finally free from Xolani's grasp.
But as I looked around the small cabin, I couldn't shake the feeling that we were just hiding. That Xolani would eventually find us, and that we would have to face him again.
I pushed the thought aside, trying to focus on the present. We were safe, for now. And that was all that mattered.
