Chapter 12 - "The Shadow Behind the Steps: Kang Min's Struggle"

That morning, the atmosphere around Kang Min's house was strange. Some unknown people were seen pacing in front of his gate. They looked suspicious, whispering to each other and occasionally glancing at Kang Min's house.

Inside the house, Kang Min was getting ready to go to school. He glanced from his bedroom window and saw those people. "Damn, they must be the people from yesterday," he muttered. He knew he couldn't just go out without a plan.

Her mother, who was sitting in the living room with a pale face, didn't notice the people. "Min, be careful on the road," her mother said as she handed over the lunch. "I'm not feeling well today, so I want to rest for a while."

Kang Min looked at his mother for a moment, feeling worried. "You just rest. Don't think about anything. If you need anything, let me know."

After that, Kang Min went back to his room to think of a way to get out without attracting the attention of those people. Quickly, he decided to go out through the back door of the house and jumped over the small fence at the side of the garden. However, before leaving, he changed his uniform clothes with a black hoodie and mask to disguise himself.

As he stepped slowly towards the back fence, Kang Min made sure his movements didn't attract attention. He peeked through the gap in the fence to make sure the surrounding area was safe. Once he felt calm enough, he jumped over the small fence nimbly. Arriving at the small street behind the house, he put on his hoodie and mask, then walked casually towards the bus stop as if nothing had happened.

In front of the house, the wandering gang became suspicious because they didn't see Kang Min out as usual. "Is he not leaving today?" one of them asked.

"I don't know, let's just wait a while longer," the other replied while lighting a cigarette.

Meanwhile, Kang Min made it to the bus stop without any problems. He took the bus to school, but his mind was disturbed by the presence of those suspicious people. "They're getting crazy. Could this have something to do with the incident that night?" he thought as he clutched his bag tightly.

Arriving at school, Kang Min was immediately approached by Lee Jong and Sung Jae. "Are you okay? I saw something strange in front of your house," Lee Jong asked in a worried tone.

Kang Min nodded. "I'm fine. They didn't see me come out. But we have to be vigilant from now on."

Kim Hanna, who overheard the conversation, approached them. "Who are they? Do you have any more problems, Min?" she asked in a serious tone.

Kang Min shook his head. "No need to worry. I can take care of this myself."

However, his three friends disagreed. "We promised to take care of you, Min. You're not alone. If you need help, just say so," Sung Jae said firmly.

Although he was touched, Kang Min just smiled and changed the subject. "Alright, let's get ready for sports practice later. I don't want to get punished for being late again."

That day, even though school was going on as usual, Kang Min kept thinking about the people in front of his house. He knew it wasn't over yet, and they would definitely come back. A plan began to form in his mind to uncover who sent the gang and what their purpose was.

During break, the school hallway was quite crowded with students joking and walking towards the cafeteria. Kang Min was chatting with Lee Jong, Sung Jae, and Hanna near the lockers. Without realizing it, someone pulled his arm quite strongly.

"Kang Min, come with me for a moment," the voice sounded firm.

Kang Min turned his head and found Choi Sang Woo, with a serious face, leading him away from the crowd. Without having time to say anything, he just followed. His three friends were still engrossed in conversation and hadn't noticed his departure.

Sang Woo led her to a quiet corner of the hallway. After making sure no one else was around, Sang Woo immediately spoke in a cold tone. "Do you realize what you're doing? They've already started chasing you, and now you're acting like everything is safe."

Kang Min let out a long breath, looking at Sang Woo with a flat expression. "I already know. But I can't keep hiding, hyung. I have my own life. If they want to find me, let them come directly."

Sang Woo snorted in annoyance. "That's a good boy's answer. Do you think this is just your business? Your friends, your family-they could all be affected too, Min."

Kang Min was silent for a moment. He knew Sang Woo's words had a point, but he didn't like being organized like this. "I won't involve them. I know what I'm doing, hyung."

Sang Woo brought his face closer, staring intently. "Look, I don't care how brave you are. If you're not careful, you'll die silly. I already gave you a warning, and this is my last warning. Don't mess with them."

After saying that, Sang Woo walked away leaving Kang Min still rooted to the spot. He clenched his fists, feeling angry and confused at the complicated situation.

When he returned to his friends, Lee Jong immediately asked, "Min, where were you? You suddenly disappeared."

"No, I just went to the bathroom," Kang Min replied briefly, trying to divert their attention.

However, Hanna who was watching Kang Min's face carefully immediately added, "Your face looks different. Is there something you're not telling us?"

Kang Min just smiled and shook his head. "Nothing, I'm fine." But in his heart, he knew this problem was far from over.

After the dismissal bell rang, Kang Min came out of the school gate and found Lee Ju Nan standing while leaning his body against the car. "Mr. Lee, what's the wind waiting for me?" asked Kang Min with a smile.

Lee Ju Nan, the assistant to the CEO of Kang Min's family company, patted his shoulder in a casual manner. "Well, who else should take care of a brat like you if not me? This extra duty is tough."

On the way, Lee Ju Nan cracked various silly jokes. From imitating a singer's voice to strange stories that made Kang Min laugh out loud. Slowly, Kang Min's cheerful expression returned, and he began to show his humorous side as usual.

"Mr. Lee, if you're not the CEO's assistant, you'd be a comedian, you know?" Kang Min joked while holding his stomach that hurt from laughing too much.

Lee Ju Nan chuckled while glancing at Kang Min. "Speaking of the future, have you decided yet? Do you really want to continue your brother's position in the family company? Be someone dedicated to business?"

Kang Min was silent for a moment, staring out the car window at the afternoon street view. "Hmmm, I don't know yet. But I'm more interested in becoming an MMA boxer later. Maybe that's more suitable for me."

Lee Ju Nan nodded slowly, as if understanding Kang Min's direction of thought. "Whatever it is, I hope you keep thinking carefully. Don't act recklessly without a plan again."

When they arrived in front of Kang Min's house, Lee Ju Nan immediately noticed that some suspicious people were still hanging around the house. His face turned serious. "They're still here? This isn't right. I'd better stay with you."

However, Kang Min smiled slightly and patted Lee Ju Nan's shoulder. "No need to worry, Mr. Lee. I can handle this. You can just go home and rest. Don't think too much about a brat like me."

Although hesitant, Lee Ju Nan finally complied and left. Kang Min then walked up to a group of men standing near his house. Fearlessly, he stared at them with a sharp gaze.

"What the hell are you guys looking for here?" he asked in a stern tone.

One of the men replied in a flat tone, "We're just making sure there are no suspicious movements. This is part of our investigation."

Kang Min grinned sarcastically, then said, "Oh, someone came and passed by here earlier, but his face is different from yours. If you want to know, it might be Han Dong Wook's men." He deliberately emphasized Han's name in a mocking tone.

The men looked at each other. One of them approached and said, "Are you sure? Did you see it clearly?"

Kang Min just chuckled and folded his arms across his chest. "What are you guys doing here anyway? Did this handsome young man kill someone? Come on, be a little more logical." Her flirtatious tone was deliberately made to provoke their reactions.

Some of them snorted in annoyance, but the others were silent, not wanting to respond to Kang Min's casual attitude.

In his heart, Kang Min knew that this was just the beginning of something bigger. He had to be more careful and think about his next move.
