Chapter 14 - "Chains of Secrets: A Son's Resolve"

That night, Kang Min sat relaxed in front of the television. His legs were raised on the table, with a blanket covering his body. The television was showing the latest news, and Kang Min watched seriously.

"I, as Brother Han, will insist that the fugitive be arrested immediately. If the police can't catch him, I'll catch him myself," the voice on the screen sounded loud and determined. Kang Min frowned. The name mentioned on the news reminded him of someone he had heard of before-a man involved in human trafficking that troubled many people.

Curious, Kang Min immediately opened his cell phone. He searched for the latest news about the man. Several articles about illicit business and human trafficking allegations appeared on the screen. Kang Min felt that something was wrong with all of this, and his instinct told him that there was a connection with the people who had been stalking his life for a long time.

However, as he was diving into the news, his mother's voice suddenly called him from outside the room. Kang Min immediately turned his head towards the door. The coughing sound from his mother sounded worse than usual. Kang Min hurriedly stood up and approached the door.

"Mom, why is the cough getting worse?" asked Kang Min worriedly.

His mother who looked weak could only smile forcibly. "It's okay, Kang Min. It's just a normal cough."

But Kang Min knew something was wrong. Then, suddenly, his mother coughed violently, and blood flowed from her mouth. Kang Min was shocked. "Mom!" he exclaimed in panic.

His mother fell to the floor, and Kang Min immediately helped her up. His mother's face looked pale, and more blood was coming out. Without thinking, Kang Min picked up his mother and ran to the car. "Mom, let's go to the hospital now!" he shouted while holding back the fear that was starting to overcome him.

Arriving at the hospital, Kang Min still looked shocked and worried. His mother was immediately taken to the emergency treatment room. The doctors and nurses worked immediately, but Kang Min could only stand outside the treatment room with a worried face.

Soon, the sound of a car could be heard from the front of the hospital. Kang Min turned his head and saw Choi Sang Woo and Ji Ho getting out of their car, walking quickly towards him.

"Sang Woo, Ji Ho..." Kang Min mumbled in a weak voice, and his normally hard face now looked fragile.

Choi Sang Woo looked at him with a serious expression. "Kang Min, what happened? Why is your mom like this?"

Kang Min shook his head, trying to hold back his tears. "She coughed, then suddenly started bleeding. I... I'm afraid she has a serious illness."

Ji Ho who was beside Sang Woo turned his gaze to Kang Min, trying to give support despite not knowing what to say.

"What exactly happened?" asked Sang Woo in a low voice, calmer than usual, trying to understand the situation.

Kang Min bit his lip, feeling very depressed. "I just read the news. A fugitive involved in human trafficking, and... I feel there's a connection to our family."

Sang Woo was silent for a moment, thinking hard. "Wait a minute, Kang Min. This is a bigger problem than you think. We have to stay calm and wait for the news from the doctor. But if this is indeed related to a bigger problem, we must immediately find a way to protect your mother and family."

Kang Min felt increasingly agitated. "I can't wait. Mom, she... she shouldn't be suffering like this. There's something wrong, Sang Woo. I have to find out more."

Sang Woo held Kang Min's shoulder firmly. "You can't do it alone. It's not just about you or your mom, Kang Min. We have to work together."

Just then, a doctor came out of the treatment room with a serious face. "Who is the family of this patient?" he asked Kang Min.

Kang Min immediately stood up, approaching the doctor nervously. "I'm his son. How is my mother? What happened?"

The doctor sighed and looked at Kang Min carefully. "Your mother is suffering from a very severe illness, Kang Min. It's a disease that usually goes undetected until the symptoms appear very quickly. It can be fatal if not treated immediately."

Kang Min felt like the world was collapsing before him. "What should I do? What can I do?"

The doctor looked at him empathetically. "We will immediately conduct further tests to confirm the diagnosis. But, you must be prepared for the worst."

Kang Min felt like he was hit by the doctor's words. With a weak body, he sat on the chair, trying to digest the information he had just gotten. Sang Woo and Ji Ho stood beside him, providing some comfort in the pressing silence.

"Don't worry too much, Kang Min," Sang Woo said after a while, breaking the silence. "We'll figure it out. But, now focus on your mother first."

Kang Min nodded, although his heart was still filled with deep anxiety. He had to protect the people he loved, but the world seemed to keep shaking his life with things he couldn't control.

The decisions he had to make, and the threats that might come, were getting closer.

Kang Min sat pensively in the hospital waiting room, his eyes glued to the door of the ward where his mother was being treated. It was very difficult for Kang Min to stay calm. The news of his mother's severe illness further agitated his heart. Coupled with the worry about the relationship between the fugitives he was looking for and their families, he felt trapped in the middle of a big problem that he couldn't face alone.

Sang Woo and Ji Ho sat next to her, both feeling anxious despite trying to show calmness. Sang Woo, who is usually firm, seemed more calm this time. He knew Kang Min was facing a very difficult time, and although he wanted to help, he knew that right now Kang Min had to find his own way out.

"Sang Woo, Ji Ho," Kang Min said in a low voice, "I need to find out more about this person. The fugitive involved in human trafficking. I'm sure he's related to my mom. I feel like there's something hidden."

Ji Ho looked at Kang Min seriously. "Kang Min, this is not the time to act rashly. You should focus on your mom first. We can find out more later."

Kang Min let out a long breath, his eyes full of determination. "I know, Ji Ho, but I feel like I'm getting closer to the truth. If I don't act now, I might not be able to protect my mom or our family."

Sang Woo touched Kang Min's shoulder gently. "We will help you, Kang Min. But we have to do it carefully. If there are links to dangerous people, we can't be rash."

Kang Min nodded slowly, feeling a little calmer with their support. However, his heart remained anxious. Every second that passed seemed to make him feel more and more squeezed into an increasingly dangerous circle.

A few hours later, the doctor who handled his mother came back out of the treatment room. The doctor's face looked more serious than before. Kang Min, who stood up as soon as he saw the doctor, looked at him expectantly.

"Doctor, how is my mother?" asked Kang Min in a trembling tone.

The doctor took a deep breath, then looked at Kang Min sympathetically. "We've done some further tests, and unfortunately, your mother's condition is very critical. She suffers from a rare disease that causes damage to her vital organs. We will try to do our best, but we must be prepared for the fact that the time left is very limited."

Kang Min felt like the world was crumbling before him. His heart was filled with overwhelming fear and worry. "What does that mean, Doc? What should I do?"

The doctor looked at him with empathy. "We will give you the best treatment we can. But, you should know that for this disease, treatment is very limited. We can only pray that your mother can get through this difficult time."

Kang Min felt his body go limp, speechless. Everything he felt right now seemed to cloud his mind. Suddenly, his hand tightly grasped the cell phone in his pocket. He remembered the man he was looking for, the fugitive involved in human trafficking. It felt like she couldn't wait any longer. If there really was a connection with her mother, she had to find the answer immediately.

Sang Woo and Ji Ho approached him. "Kang Min, listen to us. We'll find a way to solve this, but don't rush into a decision that could be risky."

Kang Min looked at them with determined eyes. "I can't just sit idly by. This is about my mom, about our family. I have to act now. If there's a way to unravel all of this, I'll achieve it."

Sang Woo nodded, although he looked doubtful. "Okay, but remember, we have to be careful. No one can guarantee our safety if we act hastily."

Kang Min just nodded, feeling that the path he was about to take was indeed full of risks. However, his heart was already firm. His mother, his family, they were all at stake. He had to fight.

As time passed, Kang Min was increasingly caught in the tension and dilemma between protecting his mother and digging deeper into the dark world that threatened their family. Every step he took felt heavier, but he knew that no matter what, he had to keep moving forward.

Kang Min strode into the hospital room with determination, ready to seek answers, while Sang Woo and Ji Ho stood behind him, ready to provide whatever support he needed.
