Chereads / Void Sovereign: Rise of the Cursed God / Chapter 30 - The Cracks of Eternity

Chapter 30 - The Cracks of Eternity

The void pulsed faintly with fading energy, the fractured remnants of the Pantheon's domain trembling in defeat. Ravok and Lara stood on the final platform, the shattered skyline stretching endlessly before them. Colossal shards of radiant light and broken chains floated aimlessly in the dark expanse, a testament to the damage they had inflicted.

Lara broke the silence first, her voice tinged with a mix of relief and unease. "That sphere was holding this place together, wasn't it? And we just smashed it."

"It was a tether," Ravok replied, his eyes fixed on the horizon where the fragmented realm seemed to shift and writhe like a wounded beast. "But the Pantheon isn't built on one tether. There are more. And now we'll find them."

"So," Lara said, sheathing her daggers, "this isn't victory—it's a warning shot."

"Exactly," Ravok said, stepping forward. "And the cracks are only beginning."

The whispers of the Void surged in his mind, sharper and more commanding than before.

"Push deeper. Break their dominion. Rise."

The Gateway Appears

At the edge of the platform, a new gateway materialized, its frame twisting violently with clashing energies of gold and shadow. The swirling forces within seemed at war, colliding in bursts of chaotic light that threatened to tear the portal apart.

Lara took a step back, her expression wary. "That thing doesn't look like it's done cooking. You sure stepping into it won't scramble us?"

"If it does," Ravok said with a faint smirk, "it'll save the Pantheon the trouble."

Lara gave him a flat look. "I hate when you're this confident."

The gateway pulsed, sending a ripple of energy across the platform. The whispers of the Void grew louder, their tone insistent.

"Through the cracks lies their truth. Take it. Ascend."

Without hesitation, Ravok stepped into the swirling chaos. The shadows and light coiled around him like serpents, swallowing him whole. Lara hesitated for only a moment, muttering under her breath before following him.

The Fractured Realm

They emerged into a world of chaos. The ground beneath their feet was fragmented, massive chunks of golden stone and obsidian light suspended in the void. Rivers of radiant energy and jagged streams of darkness collided violently in midair, creating explosive storms that illuminated the realm with bursts of raw power.

"This place is falling apart," Lara said, her voice low as she scanned the landscape. "I'm not even sure what's holding it together."

"It's not meant to hold," Ravok replied. "This is the aftermath of power torn from control. The Pantheon is trying to stabilize it, but they're failing."

Ahead of them, the fractured ground began to shift, rearranging itself into a narrow, unstable path. The shifting stones led to a towering spire in the distance, its surface a spiraling fusion of gold and obsidian. Runes crawled across its surface like living veins, their light flickering erratically as if struggling to maintain coherence.

"That's where we're going," Ravok said, his voice cold and resolute.

Lara frowned. "Let me guess—it's not going to just let us walk in?"

"It won't," Ravok replied. "But it doesn't have a choice."

Defenders of the Realm

As they moved forward, the fractured ground trembled, and radiant constructs began to emerge from the void. These were larger and more refined than anything they had faced before, their glowing forms twisted by the unstable energy coursing through them.

The largest of the constructs stepped forward, its voice a guttural growl that resonated through the realm. "The Pantheon's light endures. You will not advance."

"Big, glowing, and probably furious," Lara muttered, drawing her daggers. "I'll take the ugly one."

Ravok smirked faintly, his Void energy coiling around him like a living shadow. "They're all ugly. Let's finish this."

The constructs attacked as one, their strikes carrying the force of divine fury. Ravok met them head-on, his movements precise and unyielding as his dagger tore through their defenses. Each strike of his Void energy disrupted their forms, shattering their cohesion.

Lara danced between the constructs, her daggers flashing as she targeted their glowing cores. Her agility and precision kept her ahead of their attacks, exploiting every opening with devastating efficiency.

The Tower's Call

With each construct they defeated, the realm seemed to react, the storms of energy growing more violent. The path to the spire shifted, its stones rearranging themselves faster, as if trying to block their progress.

"We're close," Ravok said, his eyes fixed on the spiraling structure. "The spire is fighting back."

"You say that like it's a good thing," Lara shot back, dodging another strike from a construct. "What happens when we get there?"

"We end this fragment," Ravok replied. "And take another piece of their power."

The final construct fell, its remnants dissolving into streams of golden light that flowed toward the spire. The shifting path stabilized briefly, allowing them to advance.

The Spire's Defense

The base of the spire loomed before them, its surface writhing with runes that pulsed like the rhythm of a dying heartbeat. A massive doorway carved into its side glowed faintly, the runes twisting and writhing as they reacted to Ravok's presence.

"This thing is alive," Lara said, eyeing the doorway warily. "And I don't think it likes us."

"It doesn't have to," Ravok said, placing his hand on the door. The whispers of the Void surged, their voices cold and commanding.

"The heart lies within. Break it. Rise."

Void energy surged from Ravok's hand, colliding with the doorway's defenses. The runes flared violently, resisting the intrusion with bursts of golden light. The ground trembled as the clash of energies created a storm that threatened to consume the entire spire.

"Careful!" Lara shouted, bracing herself as the ground cracked beneath her. "That thing's going to blow!"

"It's not," Ravok said, his voice steady. "It's breaking."

With a final surge of power, the runes shattered, and the doorway collapsed inward, revealing a blinding light pulsing with the rhythm of a heartbeat. The whispers of the Void were deafening now, their tone triumphant.

"This is it," Ravok said, stepping forward. "The heart of this fragment."

Lara hesitated for a moment, her daggers still drawn. Then, with a resigned sigh, she followed him into the light.
