Internally, I seethed with anger and resentment. Get along... hell no, not with my father's killer. The words echoed in my mind like a mantra, fueling my determination to never forgive him. But what I didn't realize was that my internal monologue was reflected on my face. My expressions changed, subtly shifting from neutral to hostile. The Alpha's masculine voice came to my ear, low and smooth. "What is it?" he asked, his tone tinged with curiosity. I felt a flush rise to my cheeks as I realized I had been caught. "Huh? Oh, ummm... it's nothing," I stuttered, trying to brush it off. The Alpha only nodded, his eyes glinting with amusement. He made himself comfortable on the sofa, his movements fluid and confident. I watched him warily, my mind racing with questions. What did he want from me? Why was he being so... civil? And what was behind that enigmatic smile?
The air around us became stiff and awkward, the silence hanging like a challenge. But then the Alpha broke the tension, his voice low and smooth. "So, what made you start working at a place like that?" he asked, his eyes glinting with curiosity. I shrugged, trying to appear nonchalant. "Umm, nothing really. I just needed a side hustle," I said, avoiding eye contact. The Alpha raised an eyebrow. "Is that so?" he asked, his tone skeptical. I nodded vigorously, keeping my head down. I could feel his eyes on me, boring into my skin. "Why are you standing there?" he asked, his voice tinged with amusement. "Are you afraid that I'm going to bite you?" I didn't say a word. I was too busy trying to process the strange sensation of being under his intense gaze. He chuckled, a low rumbling sound. "I know what you saw out there was frightening, but it's actually a normal thing for wolves," he said, his eyes glinting with a knowing light. "And I can sense that your wolf hasn't awakened." Wait, what??? Did he think I was a wolf? I felt a surge of confusion and alarm. How did he know? And what did he mean by "my wolf"? I didn't have a wolf. I was a witch, and I had no idea what he was talking about.
I hesitated, unsure of how to respond. I was about to start explaining, but then I remembered the risks of revealing my true nature. If I said I was a witch, I would surely be killed. So I decided to deflect the conversation and change the subject. An idea popped into my head, and I blurted it out. "Sir, would you like to eat anything?" I asked, trying to sound as nonchalant as possible. The Alpha chuckled, a low rumbling sound. "Wow," he said, his eyes glinting with amusement. "One minute you're acting scared of me, and the next minute you're trying to make me comfortable." He shook his head, a small smile still playing on his lips. "Well, it's your house, so you need to be comfortable," I said, trying to sound polite.
