Chapter 2 - Bless The Brave

Matt wasn't the smartest person nor was he the most cunning on Earth, yet no one was able to remove him from his position for more than a dozen years.

One of his greatest abilities was his adaptability; no matter what kind of changes occurred, he was always the first to change accordingly.

Being from a normal household, he had travelled a long path that was filled with all kinds of dangers and threats.

The number of attacks he had survived was quite surprising, because of which he was even given the nickname 'Son of God'.

His cars exploded, snipers were always ready to shoot him dead, and even his own bodyguards and servants had tried to kill him several times, but he survived everything.

Matt did such a dangerous job not because he wanted power or loved controlling others; he just felt excited, which is also the reason why he had been in several wars.

Right now, the same Matt was having an identity crisis.

A flood of memories rushed into his brain, making him dizzy and confused.

As if he was watching two movies at the same time, with a little similarity and a lot of differences, and the sound of banging on the door wasn't helping at all.

First, he sorted out the memories of his previous life, watching every scene as if he were living them again.

Finally, he began to observe the new memories.

BANG

THUD

But at that moment, the door gave up.

The lock broke, and the door opened wide, as an old man wearing a white robe walked inside.

On his chest, there was the same symbol as the one present on the wall of the room, the only difference being a tiny star present beneath the symbol.

" VRITRA, you are still on the bed!! Don't you know it's already nine? Immediately get ready and go to your work." The old man shouted, his face turning red.

VRITRA? Is that my name here? What a strange name...

" Y-Yes?" Matt could only manage to speak one word; he was still not clear about his current condition.

" Hmph, if you keep on slacking like this, then even I won't be able to stop the higher ups from throwing you out on the streets." The old man puffed his chest, speaking with a shake of his head.

He was stout and short, with a height of 5 feet, and was probably more than 60 years old.

Matt was still going through all those new memories, so he just nodded his head, hoping for the old man to leave.

" Sigh, even though I care more for you than others, but since you are late, I can't show favouritism towards you. So as a punishment, you will have to help others after you finish your work." The old man chided, rightfully.

Matt just resigned himself to nodding.

Raising his right hand and placing his palm over the religious emblem, with his finger stretched and thumb folded, the old man spoke in a slightly louder voice:

" Bless the Brave!! "

"..."

The old man waited for a response, standing in the same posture, but Matt had no idea what he was supposed to do at this moment.

" Did you really forget the phrase of our Goddess? " Saying these words, finally, the old man left.

Matt released a long breath, feeling exhausted.

I have been reborn? Or rather, I got possession of this body? I had heard a little about such stories from my sons, but am I still on the Earth?

Just as he concentrated, Matt was finally able to go through all the new memories.

Without any hurry, he began to familiarise himself with those memories.

' So my name here really is Vritra. '

At the age of five, he was sold off by his family to the Monethian Sanctum for just some amount of money, where the Goddess of hope and strength is worshipped.

The Goddess is also known as Miratheon

He was currently present in one of the branches of the Monethian Sanctum.

After being sold, Vritra was brought from the continent to the city called Qortern and has stayed here for almost ten years.

At least I now know that this is not Earth, but a completely different planet, maybe even the universe.

He received a basic education in the Sanctum, but his knowledge was greatly limited.

As Matt went through more memories, he was astonished at all kinds of wonders he saw.

There were things here that completely defied logic and science, things that could not be explained and are filled with mysteries.

These things are called 'Runes'.

In this planet called Gritorge, runes are the greatest mystery yet the most important entities.

There were various theories about their creation, but Matt didn't find much information about any of that in his memories, so without lingering on the topic for too long, he proceeded to go through the rest of the memories.

There are various runes in the world, ranging from those used for simple tasks like lighting up rooms to those that possess the power to destroy entire kingdoms.

They are present in different shapes and sizes.

Runes are formed naturally, and despite all their efforts, humans haven't been able to create one perfectly.

As adaptive as humans are, they eventually learned the method to use the runes and their other applications.

Vritra spent most of his time in the Sanctum doing his duties, so unfortunately, Matt didn't find any more information about runes or the people who could use these runes.

' Runes... and rune masters, this planet is filled with dangers and adventure.' Matt thought.

He was astonished at the things that this planet contained, and he had only seen Vritra's view of the world, which was extremely small.

Matt's head was filled with countless questions about being reborn on this strange planet, but amidst all that confusion, he felt his heart thumping loudly in his chest.

He was excited.

To normal people, rune masters are like higher beings, and not anyone can become a rune master.

Normally, the talent to become one is passed from blood, from parents to children, so it is extremely rare for people whose parents aren't rune masters to become one.

And for ordinary people, even if they possess the talent to become a rune master, they would hardly get any chance to awaken their talent.

But staying in the Monethian Sanctum had an advantage; the Sanctum would give a chance to everyone, even if they are just servants.

Vritra will be fifteen in a couple of months or so. Then, he will be considered an adult.

And soon there will be an awakening rite, where all the kids of age fifteen or above will test their talents.

This event was something that made everyone excited and fearful at the same time. After all, their lives will be changed completely if they possess any talent.

' I am going to need some more time to make all those memories my own. For now, I need to understand my current situation. '

Matt thought.

He knew wasting time on questioning his rebirth was useless right now. He was already a different person, and his previous life on Earth had already come to an end.

' Mirelle... ' At the thought of his previous life, Matt was reminded of his first love, his first wife.

Right, I need to go out and do the chores.

The stout old man who was inside the room a few minutes ago was the head attendant in the Sanctum named Bonnie, who maintained surveillance and tasks of all the attendants.

He was famous for making trouble for selected few, and unfortunately, Vritra was one of them.

But just as Matt stood up, he remembered the text that had appeared in front of him but long ago.

What was that?

Just as he thought about it, he saw the familiar text again.
