Chapter 3 - Vritra

Vritra was from a family that earned just enough to fill their bellies on a daily basis. But then a dangerous plague hit the continent, throwing everyone and everything into chaos.

Sand Rose Plague

Many people believed it was an attack from the other continents. The ones who suffered the most in it were the ordinary people.

They neither had money nor the powerful connections, of course, with a few exceptions.

Thousands of people died daily, and it seemed that the entire continent might not survive such a calamity.

But miraculously, they were able to survive the plague in the end, though the continent had been weakened significantly.

The ordinary people who were able to survive weren't the same; their families were in shambles, and they didn't even have any food.

Vritra's family was the same, although strangely enough there wasn't any casualty in the family, but their condition was just the same as other families.

There were six members in his family; aside from his parents, Vritra had an elder brother, elder sister, and grandfather.

And It was impossible to feed them all when they didn't even have the money to feed just one person.

So his parents made a hard decision: they sold off their youngest child to the Monethian Sanctum just for some money.

And after Vritra shifted to the Qortern city from the continent, he never saw them again.

Over the past ten years, he had been working in the Sanctum as a servant, just hoping that his family would come to take him back.

Yet, deep down he knew it was impossible.

Right now, inside a room of a branch of the Sanctum, a boy with the height of a little over 5 feet sat on the bed and stared at the letters magically floating in front of him.

The hell is all that?

Matt stared at the long message with wide eyes. He tried to touch the screen, but it seemed to be ethereal.

After being reborn and seeing Vritra's memories, nothing seemed impossible, no matter how absurd it could be.

Matt remained stunned, but just for a moment. Getting out of his shock, he began to read the text carefully from the top.

' Talent, Class and Gates, maybe they are related to becoming a rune master, but I don't have any talent...? '

Only one out of every few hundred ordinary people will have a slight chance of becoming a rune master, but that doesn't mean there are only a few rune masters on the entire planet.

And the ones who had managed to become one, were separated from the very first step because of their talents.

Talent, this was the word that became a nightmare for some while a god's blessing for others.

' Traits... I think I got them because of my behaviour in my previous life, so whoever this God is, he has the ability to administer even my life as Matt.

Anyway the description is quite vague, I guess I would have to wait to see their effects later on. ' he pondered, feeling astonished and confused.

But Matt had a feeling that these traits weren't as simple as they seemed.

He didn't have any runes on him right now so the 'none' word displaying was expected.

Finally, his gaze landed on the strangest names of the message, the Divine abilities.

Demonix Blood child, Physique Arcana, Cursed Requiem, Chrono parasite and Religia Crest.

All these names sounded... a little dark. And they were all locked.

Matt remembered seeing a message before where the process had paused in the middle.

' I can only use one divinity right now, Omen Weaver. ' Matt only needed to read the description once to understand it.

Blan Haneur... I wonder what that means.

But after reading all that his doubts had increased by several times.

Who is this forgotten God? What does he want with him?

Why was 'he' brought here? Was he the only one brought to this planet?

What are these divinities? Why are they locked?

And many more...

Using these abilities without any knowledge was just like trying to drive a car without knowing how to drive, you are guaranteed to fail.

As if reading Matt's thoughts, another message popped in front of him. And unlike the previous messages this one seemed to be slightly longer.

For some reason, Matt had a feeling that this message might contain the answers to some of his questions.

But as curious as he was to solve all the mysteries, Matt soon remembered that he still needed to start with his daily duties.

' Since I am going to live this life, I should get used to it as soon as possible. '

Matt needed a few seconds to remember Vritra's daily routine. It was the month of November, and the winter had just started.

How strange! Why does this planet also follow the calendar from Earth? I guess I wasn't the first one to arrive here after all.

Without lingering on the topic for too long, Matt looked under the bed where a basin half-filled with water was placed, a cloth hanging on its side.

And beside it were his sandals.

The servants shared one bathroom, since it was winter and to save time, they took turns to take baths once every three days.

Vritra had taken a bath the previous day, so today he was just going to wash his body with the wet cloth, which was much better than bathing with cold water.

Without worrying about the door, which was wide open, Matt removed all his clothes. Then, moving the basin towards the centre of the room, he began to clean himself with the cloth.

I am going to need quite some time to get used to this body.

After he was finished, Matt pushed the basin under the bed and threw the cloth inside it. He would need to refill it again before sleeping.

Then he picked up one of the robes from the table and wore it.

It seemed the notebook lying on the table was completely empty.

Taking in a deep breath, Matt glanced towards the open window. The sun rays fell onto his pale, glistening skin while his eyes shone with a curious glint.

" So I am Vritra now, " Matt mumbled as if imprinting this statement in his head.

Finally, he put on his sandals and walked out of his room, closing the door behind him.

As it seemed, the ordinary Vritra's life was going to be anything but ordinary from this moment forth.
