Dane and Cassie were already on their way back to Grey Corps.
As Dane sped through the beautiful road of the city, the wind brushed past their faces, pushing Cassie's long hair back as it danced.
Cassie looked no different than a model.
She was genuinely happy to have experienced her very first bike ride.
At first, when Dane came to pick her up, she was afraid.
She had heard news of people falling off from motorcycles and some other accidents that could happen.
All these negative notions came together to almost deny her the experience but Dane's reassurance was more than enough for her.
She trusted in his words and she did not regret it.
The once shy Cassie was now free, spreading her arms out and allowing the wind to brush her face and hair.
She inhaled and exhaled, and even though the wind was harsh to her nostrils a little bit, Cassie didn't mind.
She simply relished the adrenaline that pumped through her system.
Dane, on the other hand, gave her intermittent sidelong glances to make sure she was okay while he smiled and controlled the bike with finesse.
After a while, Cassie calmed down and held Dane around the waist once more as they rode back to the office.
"Hey! Watch it, you dimwit!" a random driver cursed at the pair.
Dane looked at him and smirked as he rode past speedily.
"You're trying to kill someone?!"
"Watch where you are going!"
"Stupid!"
"That guy is crazy."
"I wonder why they are even laughing. He almost splashed me!"
Dane and Cassie giggled mischievously as they angered random members of the public on their way back.
"This is so much fun!" Cassie exclaimed excitedly.
———
Because Dane was allowed some liberty on their way back, they managed to arrive within the average time he would make that distance.
Vroom~
Dane screeched his bike to a stop, spinning it around to face the exit of the establishment.
"Here we are, Princess."
As soon as Dane came to a stop, Cassie harrumphed.
She was not happy that it had all come to an end.
She wanted to spend more time with Dane.
Cassie was happy and it showed on her face, so much that Dane noticed.
Dane knew he had her already without doing much.
Heaven was already smiling down on him and not just that, even granting him good fortune with Cassie.
He knew Cassie had something from him since when he met her when she had just arrived.
However, Dane didn't expect that it would be as easy as this.
He basically did nothing but spend roughly $200 on a date with her, but he knew that Cassie wasn't that shallow.
A mere $200 date was a dent on the list of expensive places she had been to.
Dane didn't know why Cassie had fallen for him but he hoped that she would remain as such.
Cassie huffed with disappointment as she alighted from the bike, hesitant to return to the building.
By this time, most of the staff had gone home and those left were the ones walking overtime.
This category consisted of very few people, Layla included.
...Layla Grey, the jealous cousin.
She stayed back, knowing full well that Cassie would return, all thanks to the driver letting her in on that information.
Along with using her superiority to get the information out of the driver, Layla had also exercised her power over him by giving him a directive.
He had no choice but to obey his boss.
"Make sure you let me know when she comes back," she said with an authoritative tone of voice, making it clear that defiance was not an option whatsoever.
That was why, at this moment, Layla's smartphone vibrated and rang.
She glanced at it and saw that it was the driver she had bullied into doing her deed.
She watched the phone ring without answering it as she typed frantically on her laptop, rushing to finish up her work.
Her phone rang a second time and a third time.
By the fourth time, Layla knew that she had to answer it or the driver wouldn't stop calling.
After all, he was afraid of her and she made sure he was.
Not delivering the message to her was akin to not delivering it at all and that was why he continued to call.
Layla finally picked up
"What is it?" she asked in an annoyed and condescending tone.
"Miss Cassandra is back. She just called me," the driver informed her, his voice slightly trembling. "I called to inform you like you instructed."
"That's good," Layla said. "You both wait for me. We will all go home together."
"Okay, ma—"
The call ended.
Layla had ended it after saying what she wanted to say, showing no regard for anything the driver had to say.
———
"Okay," Cassie answered as she spoke to someone on the phone. "Let me down when she's ready then."
"Thank you."
Unlike her cousin, the staff of the Grey seemed to like Cassie better.
She was speaking with the driver, who had called her back to update her on what Layla had said.
Naturally, Cassie didn't mind since it was not the first time it was happening.
She also did not want to stress the driver as she could easily ask him to take her home and then return for Layla... but that seemed inconsiderate; however, she thought about it.
Cassie, sometimes, did not behave like a Grey.
Better put, sometimes she forgets that she is a Grey, something that many find shocking.
Knowing this, it was no surprise that someone of Dane's status would catch her eye.
Cassie turned her attention back to her date, holding her hands together over her thighs and half-turning on both sides.
"Well, I will have to go wait for Layla inside."
Dane looked at the gigantic skyscraper that served as the headquarters for the Grey Corps and then back to Cassie.
He nodded and then smiled.
"I will see you soon."
Cassie nodded affirmatively. "I had a great time. Thank you, Dane."
Dane paused, doing nothing but smiling as Cassie leaned into him and kissed his cheek.
Cassie blushed red with embarrassment just an instant later as she could barely hold eye contact with him.
She didn't know what pushed her to peck Dane on the cheek but she found herself filled with a strong, irresistible desire to do so.
"See you! Bye!" she sheepishly exclaimed as she hurried into the building.
Dane tried to hold her back but his arm couldn't make the contact as he chuckled at the shy lady that evaded him.
Dane shook his head and smiled.
Clicking his tongue in amusement, he revved the engine of his bike and just when he was about to drive off, a familiar sound rang in his head.
Ding~
