Chapter 20 - Temporary Base

There was no need to go to great lengths to clean up the bodies of their opponents. Kai and Ambrose walked over to where Roxie stood.

"We don't know when the rain will start again, it is better for us to find a place to stay as soon as possible. Kai, please lead us to the area you were talking about earlier." Roxie said.

Kai nodded.

Everyone picked their bags up. It had fallen to the ground during the fight.

Kai started to lead the way. Nobody said anything to each other.

Each person was left to their thoughts. Roxie didn't want to spend too much time in this world.

Since she decided to actively solve the challenges in the apocalyptic worlds, everything seemed to be on hard mode. Everything was progressively harder.

Within a few minutes, Kai brought them to the downtown area. Although there weren't numerous houses in the area, there were enough options for them to choose from.

Kai turned to Roxie.

"Which house do you think we should pick?" He asked.

"I don't know. Let's just pick one at random and take adequate rest. Once we finish recharging our energy, we can then scour the other houses for food supplies and any other things we need." Roxie explained.

"Okay." Kai nodded.

Kai started to walk towards an house at random. Roxie and Ambrose followed him.

Roxie was desperate to find somewhere to stay. There was many things to do. She wanted to go into her space to claim the rewards for the mission Pixie asked her to do in our original world. There were other things to arrange and work on too.

This wasn't a zombie apocalypse world. The government in this world would not be totally incapacitated or crippled.

Their group might have to work hand in hand with the government. Only the government would have access to scientists and any other professionals that will make solving this apocalypse world a success.

Trying to do this without any help from the indigenous people or their government was just playing a game's hell mode instead of going through the normal path.

Roxie would grab anything that would make her life easier.

Everywhere was deserted. It felt like all the humans in this area disappeared overnight. Roxie didn't know where they went.

Although she knew some of the people living in these houses might have met mishaps on their way to work or anywhere else, it was still a little bit strange to see everywhere this silent and deserted.

Some of the people living in this houses might have left because of the issue with the acid rain. She actually didn't rule out the fact that there might be a few people in some of these houses.

The door to the house they chose was locked.

It was a metal door. The door might even be a reenforced one.

The three of them were in a dilemma.

"Ambrose. I don't know if my question is rude but I just want your answer. Is your superpower based on physical argumentation?" Roxie asked.

Ambrose shook his head.

Her hopeful heart sank.

None of them had powers that were related to physical strength.

"When we were coming towards this door, I saw a balcony. I think we can try to break through from there." Kai said.

"Great idea!" Roxie snapped her fingers.

"I feel like they are still some people in a few houses. What would they think if they see us breaking into another person's home?" Ambrose asked.

Roxie shrugged, "They should think whatever they want. I can't inconvenience myself because of the way people would judge me. If the owner of this home was still in this house, we would leave and apologize. If the house is empty, everything is fair game. This is the end of the world, some moral guidelines don't apply."

"You are right." Ambrose smiled.

The three of them left the entrance and walked to the balcony of the house. The house was a sprawling bungalow.

The pink and green paint complemented the building structure.

The way the balcony was built was unique.

There was a squarish metal structure that connected to the balcony.

It acted like an handrail. It demarcated the balcony from the outside world.

This metal structure didn't have a door.

Fortunately, the metal structure was half the height of an adult man.

There was two double glass doors connecting the balcony to the house.

Roxie heaved a sigh of relief when she saw those doors. They wouldn't need to find another house.

The three of them jumped over the structure and approached the door.

Ambrose kicked the glass with great force.

Cracks appeared on the glass. The cracks in the glass spread slowly.

Ambrose kicked the door again.

Every area on the glass door became filled with cracks. Within seconds, the glass door shattered to pieces.

Glass shards filled the floor. Roxie, Kai and Ambrose crossed over the glass debris and walked into the house.

Since they were going to spend the night in this house, protection was paramount.

They would brainstorm how to block the area the glass door had been in when it was time to sleep.

The balcony was directly connected to a bedroom.

This bedroom was decorated with minimalist design and furniture.

The gender of the owner of this apartment was unknown.

The house was still tidy.

The was no dust on the things in the house. The owner of this house might have gone to work before the apocalypse happened.

"Kai and Ambrose. We should split up and scour every inch of this house." Roxie said.

The two men nodded.

Prevention is better than cure.

Although the house was locked and it might seem like there was no one at home, Roxie still wanted to be sure.

She disliked bad variables very much.

Kai opened the door to the bedroom and the two of them left. Roxie followed them.

Everyone scattered in different directions. Roxie walked towards the main door of the house. She would start from there.
