After a few more minutes that was filled with silence, Roxie and Ambrose went back into the house.
Kai was not asleep yet. He looked at both of them with amused eyes.
He glanced at the two of them.
"Wow. I didn't know you guys are teaming up behind my back. Forming a group within a group is diabolical behavior. Bravo." Kai smirked.
"What are you talking aboutm" Roxie asked as she rolled her eyes, "Stop joking."
"I am not joking but I will stop hounding you two about it. Seeing you two getting to know each other more is a thing of joy. We need a little bit of romance in our boring group." Kai smiled.
Ambrose remained silent.
Roxie shoved Kai gently, "Stop saying nonsense. Nobody is cultivating romantic feelings here. We still have an apocalypse to solv but you are here fantasizing about something else."
Roxie went to sit on one of the chairs.
She wasn't ready to sleep now.
She looked at Kai and Ambrose, "You guys should come closer. We have to strategize on what to do in the future. We are running on time. This is a level E world so the apocalypse should be relatively easy to solve. I think we need to secure the help of the government of this world as soon as possible. We must solve the disaster in this world quickly. What do you guys think?"
Kai and Ambrose took their seats. The chairs they choose was near Roxie.
"You are right." Ambrose nodded, "It would be best if we contacted the government before other player groups. I don't think the acid rain had destroyed everything totally just yet. We still need permission to do many things so we must act fast."
"Tomorrow, we have to go out to check how things are right now. We would have already rested enough by the time tomorrow comes." Roxie said.
"And we can try to see if we can get more players to join our group. The more, the merrier." Kai chipped in.
"Since we already have the basic plan down, the next thing we have to do is to go to sleep. Adequate rest would go a long way for our journey tomorrow." Roxie glanced at the two of them.
Roxie yawned.
She rose to her feet. She was already fantasizing about the bed in her room.
Roxie couldn't wait to sink into it.
Suddenly, a knock sounded.
The three of them looked towards the door simultaneously.
The three of them stood up and walked towards the entrance door. Roxie was at the lead.
She unlocked the door and swung it open.
A lady was behind the door. She was in a pitiful state. Her body was covered in various wounds caused by the acid rain. Outside the house, a light drizzle had started.
"Hello." Roxie began, "Please, who are you and what are you looking for?"
The lady kept quiet for a few seconds.
Her brown hair was sticking to her head tightly. Her eyes was moving around erratically.
"My name is Linda, I am one of your neighbors. I came from the third house after your home."
"Hello neighbor, is there any thing you need? Is something wrong?" Roxie questioned.
Linda lowered her head and her two hands twisted together in nervousness.
"I came here because I wanted to join you guys. I saw when you guys moved in. This world is going in a direction I don't know if and it would be best if I stay with people that would secure my survival." She gushed out in one breath.
Roxie looked at this lady again.
She couldn't help herself. She added a star under her impression of this woman.
This woman was able to capture most of the things that was currently happening and she was honest about her motives instead of trying to pretend to be what she was not.
Her honesty prompted people to feel a hint of pity for her.
"We don't know what will happen in the future. This acid rain might stop later. Besides, we can't bring you everywhere we go. I am sure you understand what my words mean." Roxie said.
Linda suddenly fell to her feet.
She put her two hands together in a praying gesture, "Please, I am begging you. Just let me stay with you for a few days. I am sure the government would prepare something for the civilians and I would go to the government then. Please, take me in. I beg of you."
Roxie felt like she could understand some of Linda's fear.
Majority of the human population were social animals.
The dreary atmosphere of the world right now might prompt people to gather around other humans for collective safety and other things.
This place was not going to be their home and base forever so Roxie wanted to give this lady a chance. Once she showed any hint of being fishy, Roxie would send her packing.
"Okay Linda. Please, come in. I still have a few questions to ask before you can stay with us. If that is okay with you." Roxie said.
Linda nodded quickly.
It felt like she was a chicken pecking rice.
Roxie made way and Linda walked in.
Her eyes brightened when she saw Kai and Ambrose. Roxie ignored that behavior. It wasn't a new thing to catch feelings or lust at first sight.
All of them went back to the chairs in the living room again.
Linda didn't sit down.
She looked at Kai with pitiful eyes.
Kai rubbed the center of his brows. Roxie could practically feel his frustration wafting off him.
A laugh bubbled in her stomach. She didn't let it escape though.
"Sit down." Roxie instructed.
Thankfully, Linda's body was not soaked with acid water. She sat down and looked towards the three of them.
"First, what is your occupation? Have you offended anybody or is there any other things we should know?" Roxie sent a torrent of questions towards Linda.
Linda lowered her head.
"I am a nurse." She replied.
When Roxie heard Linda's first sentence, she was ecstatic.
Although she learnt a little bit of first aid because of her status as a player, it was still lovely to see a real nurse that studied treating people as an occupation.
Her knowledge was a mandatory skill to learn. If she didn't have that skill, she would end up as a dead body because of injuries and mishaps. Linda's experience can't be compared with the one she had.
The scale in Roxie's heart began to tilt. She was already willing to let Linda stay.
