Chapter 57 - A Direct Competitor

Another week had passed, and Lin Yun split his time between the company and the lab. The development of his CNC system machines had already reached the final stage, while the foundation and structure of the gaming ecosystem had also been established.

Lin Yun stood in the center of Room 205, the lab that had become his second home over the past week. The once-modest space was now a hive of activity, filled with the hum of machinery and the faint scent of metal and oil.

The CNC lathe and milling machine, now fully upgraded, stood proudly in the center of the room, their sleek control panels and LCD screens a testament to Lin Yun's ingenuity. The other machines, though still in the process of being upgraded, were well on their way to becoming state-of-the-art CNC systems.

Lin Yun wiped the sweat from his brow and stepped back to admire his work. The CNC lathe was running smoothly, carving a complex design into a block of metal with pinpoint precision. The milling machine, now equipped with a three-axis control system, was busy shaping another piece of metal into a perfectly symmetrical component.

The lab was alive with the sound of whirring motors and the rhythmic clatter of metal on metal.

"It's almost done," Lin Yun muttered to himself, a satisfied smile spreading across his face. The CNC system was nearly complete, and he could already envision the impact it would have on the manufacturing industry. But before he could celebrate, his phone buzzed in his pocket. He pulled it out and saw that it was Jake Ma.

"Hey, Brother Ma," Lin Yun answered, his tone casual but curious. "What's up?"

"Boss Lin," Jake Ma's voice came through, sounding unusually serious. "We've got a situation. Megasoft just announced a new product—a direct competitor to QuickBooks. They're calling it 'MegaBooks,' and they're bundling it for free with their Windows operating system."

Lin Yun's expression didn't change. He had anticipated this move from Megasoft, the tech giant that dominated the software industry. In his past life, Microsoft was known for its aggressive tactics and its ability to crush competitors by leveraging its monopoly on operating systems. But Lin Yun wasn't worried. He had planned for this.

"I see," Lin Yun said calmly. "What's the catch?"

"The catch is that their encryption technology is weaker," Jake Ma explained. "From what we've gathered, MegaBooks doesn't have the same level of security as QuickBooks. But the fact that it's free and bundled with Windows is going to make it hard for us to compete."

Lin Yun nodded, his mind already racing through the implications. "Alright, here's what we're going to do. First, we're not going to panic. Megasoft may have the advantage of distribution, but we have the advantage of quality. QuickBooks is still the better product, and we're going to make sure everyone knows it."

He paused, then continued. "Second, we're going to double down on marketing. I want you to reach out to our existing customers and remind them why they chose QuickBooks in the first place. Highlight the security features, the ease of use, and the customer support that Megasoft can't match."

Jake Ma hesitated for a moment. "But Boss Lin, what about the price? If Megasoft is offering MegaBooks for free, how can we compete?"

Lin Yun smiled. "We're not going to lower our prices. In fact, we're going to do the opposite. We're going to position QuickBooks as the premium option—the choice for businesses that value quality and security over cost."

He paused, then added, "Next, we're going to release a new version of QuickBooks with even more advanced features. I've been working on some upgrades in my spare time, and they're ready to go. We'll call it QuickBooks Pro, and we'll market it as the ultimate business management tool."

Lin Yun had long anticipated such a competitor to emerge. He had prepared everything from the beginning.

Jake Ma's tone brightened. "That's a great idea, Boss Lin. I'll get the team working on it right away."

"Good," Lin Yun said. "And one more thing—keep an eye on Megasoft. I want to know everything they're doing, from their marketing strategies to their product updates. Knowledge is power, and we're going to use it to stay one step ahead."

"Understood, Boss Lin," Jake Ma replied. "I'll keep you updated."

Lin Yun hung up the phone and slipped it back into his pocket. He wasn't concerned about Megasoft's move.

In fact, he saw it as an opportunity. QuickBooks was already the superior product, and with the new upgrades he had planned, it would only get better. Megasoft's decision to bundle MegaBooks with Windows might give them a short-term advantage, but in the long run, quality would win out.

"Operating system… Maybe it's time to do it?" Lin Yun muttered to himself and shook his head slightly.

With all the projects in his hand currently, Lin Yun couldn't spare more time for another heavy project. Moreover, it was pretty much useless to create an operating system at the moment as he had no say in the hardware market. Lin Yun didn't think that he could persuade Megasoft's partners to change their minds and cooperate with him.

Without further thought, he summoned the system panel.

Lin Yun had obtained more than a million TP during the past two weeks. He had also bought many things, such as Sphere, the Nebula Game Engine, Red Alert, Age of Empires, and many other games.

He skimmed through the system mall, looking for a suitable product. Suddenly, a familiar name caught his eye — Game Boy and PlayStation. As far as Lin Yun remembered, Kidtendo and Somy hadn't released these two products yet. Perhaps he could preempt them?

Lin Yun looked further and saw various game consoles. If he introduced one of them, it would definitely cause a great sensation in the world.

Lin Yun pondered for a long time and decided to set this aside for now. Although the profit it could bring him was huge, Lin Yun knew that these consoles would eventually be replaced by PC games in the near future.

Of course, Lin Yun wouldn't mind releasing the PlayStation 5 later. He just had to wait for the right timing.

"What should I buy then?" Lin Yun frowned deeply and continued to skim through the mall.

After skimming through the mall for a while, Lin Yun finally chose to buy the Cellulose-Based Bioplastics.
