After Chu Gaocheng and the others left, Lin Yun's parents stared at each other in a daze.
"Son, tell me, is this real?" Wang Chulan asked in disbelief. In the blink of an eye, the Lin family had given birth to a millionaire. It was something she had never dreamed of.
On the side, Lin Canghai smoked a cigarette hard, trying to calm himself down. Everything that had happened in the past month was like a dream to him. His son had become a national champion as well as a millionaire. Even if he had to die today, he could die with his eyes closed.
"Dad, you should smoke less," Lin Yun said with a smile.
Lin Canghai came back to his senses and extinguished the cigarette. "Fine. I will quit now," he said with determination.
"What are you going to do with the money, Son?" Wang Chulan asked curiously. That was 4,000,000 yuan, which could easily be used to buy a villa here in Sunshine City.
"I'll leave a million for both of you, and the rest will be used for my startup fund," Lin Yun responded calmly. In fact, he hadn't calmed down yet. While his salary was high in his past life, he had never obtained such a large sum of money in one go like this.
"We don't need it," Lin Canghai shook his head. "You can use it for yourself. Dad and Mom are proud of you."
"No, Dad, Mom. This is my intention. You can buy anything you want. Didn't I tell you before that I wanted to buy you a car? You can buy it now. In the future, I will buy a supercar for you," Lin Yun chuckled.
"We don't need a car here. Except for showing off to our neighbors, it's pretty much useless," Lin Canghai said with a smile. "Since you insist on giving to us, we will keep this money for you. If something happens in the future, you can at least have a reserve fund."
"Alright," Lin Yun didn't insist further. Once he earned more, his parents would eventually accept his gift.
"What are you going to do next?" Lin Canghai asked further. "Are you really planning to give the science academy a lecture?"
"Yes, Dad. Perhaps you don't quite understand the magnitude of the cryptography Professor Su talked about. Let me explain it in simple terms," Lin Yun said.
Lin Yun paused, took a sip of water, and began explaining cryptography to his parents in simple terms.
"Imagine you want to send a secret message to your friend," he started, "but you don't want anyone else to read it. What do you do?"
Wang Chulan, always eager to participate, chimed in, "We could write it in code! Like, replace each letter with a different symbol."
"Exactly!" Lin Yun affirmed. "That's a basic form of encryption. You're changing the message so that only someone who knows the code can understand it."
He continued, "Now imagine you're sending a really important message, like the password to your bank account. You need a much stronger code, one that's almost impossible to break."
Lin Canghai, intrigued, leaned forward. "How do you make a code that strong?"
"That's where modern cryptography comes in," Lin Yun explained. "It uses complex mathematical formulas to scramble the message. It's like turning your password into a jumbled mess of numbers and letters that only the right key can unlock."
He went on to explain how cryptography is used to protect data in computers and on the internet, from online banking to secure websites.
"Think of it like a lock on your front door," he illustrated. "Cryptography is the lock that protects your information from being stolen or tampered with."
Lin Yun then emphasized the importance of his work in advancing cryptography.
"What I've done is like inventing a new kind of lock, one that's even stronger and more secure than anything before," he said with a touch of pride. "It can help protect people's information and make the internet a safer place."
His parents, though not fully grasping the technicalities, understood the significance of his contribution. Their chests swelled with pride for their son, the national champion, the millionaire, and now, a pioneer in cybersecurity.
Lin Yun, seeing the admiration in their eyes, felt a surge of warmth. This was what he had always wanted—to make his parents proud, even though it was something he merely copied from his past life.
"How reliable is it?" Lin Canghai asked further. He seemed to understand the importance of cryptography. It could be related to national security.
"For now, no one in the world can crack it," Lin Yun replied confidently. What he used was the Advanced Encryption Standard (AES). It was too advanced for the current technical level of this world. Not to mention he could add Twofish and Serpent later.
"I see," Lin Canghai nodded slightly, and his expression turned serious. "Son, I don't interfere with your ambition, but I hope you don't harm our nation."
"Don't worry, Dad. As I mentioned earlier, while I am not a die-hard nationalist, it's impossible for me to harm my hometown," Lin Yun said solemnly. It would be nothing but suicide to bring harm to any country he lived in. He wasn't an idiot.
"Very good," Lin Canghai said with relief. He didn't care about himself, but he just didn't want his son to become "a traitor" later.
Lin Yun exchanged a few more words with his parents and returned to his room, continuing to finish the game project.
That night, he entered the DDL space as usual.
"Welcome back, Master. And congratulations on the first step of your empire," Luna said with a sweet smile as she saw Lin Yun.
"Thanks, Luna. Without you, I wouldn't be able to achieve this," Lin Yun said softly. Even though he was a veteran programmer, it was difficult for him to implement all the algorithms and structures by himself.
"You don't have to be modest, Master. You should be proud of yourself," Luna responded gently. "Do you want to take a look at your progress?"
"Sure," Lin Yun nodded and called up the system panel.

"Oh? How did you calculate the Technology Points?" Lin Yun asked.
"There are various factors, but the significant one is the influence you've created in society, Master. Currently, the cryptography and QuickBooks haven't spread widely. You can only obtain this much," Luna explained.
"I see," Lin Yun nodded slowly. "Let's see what I should buy next."
