Du Jing wasn't surprised by Lin Yun's question. On the contrary, he admired his vision.
"It seems you are very optimistic about the future of the internet," he said. "There's a discussion, but it hasn't reached a conclusion yet. This project requires a lot of investment, and the current demand isn't high. I heard they are planning to let the private sector invest in it."
Lin Yun sighed inwardly. His current capital was small. Even if he wanted to join in, it was impossible. As someone who knew the future, he was aware of the massive wealth that internet broadband could bring in. This was a golden egg laying business.
He thought for a moment and said, "I would like to express my opinion on this, Secretary Du."
"Sure. You can tell me everything. There's no need to be polite. You can also call me Uncle Du," Du Jing said with a smile.
He had always regarded Lin Yun as a genius. He firmly believed that Lin Yun had a unique vision that far surpassed experts in this field. Otherwise, he wouldn't have been able to come up with such powerful cryptography and programming languages.
"Alright, Uncle Du," Lin Yun began. "If I guess correctly, our country already possesses DSL technology over phone lines."
"Indeed. We mastered the technology from joint research with Sakura Country early this year," Du Jing responded. The admiration in his eyes intensified as he looked at Lin Yun.
Lin Yun nodded slightly. Back on Earth, Japan was in the lead in this technology in Asia. It seemed they were powerful in this world as well.
"If possible, I suggest our government should do it themselves. We already have the existing phone lines, and it's not difficult to deploy internet broadband," Lin Yun said.
"It's true that demand is relatively low currently, but it will gradually increase. In the next few years, many businesses, like internet cafes, will pop up, and the demand for high-speed connection will increase drastically."
He looked at Du Jing and continued, "As long as the government firmly holds this business in their hands, it will generate massive income every year. Moreover, with the government in control, they can reduce security risks and set prices. Instead of letting an unscrupulous private company hold onto it, why shouldn't our government do it themselves?"
Du Jing furrowed his brow, pondering the matter.
Lin Yun struck further. "Think about it, Uncle Du. Our country has a huge population; the demand for high-speed connection will inevitably be very high. If these companies decide to increase the price all together, what will happen then? Not to mention if they put something in it, risking national security."
Lin Yun had a selfish reason for preventing the private sector from getting involved in this business. He didn't want to be controlled by them, as his tech empire would eventually require a huge network. He'd rather pay the government than a private company. At least the money would go into infrastructure instead of someone's pocket.
Du Jing's expression turned serious. He nodded solemnly. "You're right, Lin Yun. This is related to national security."
"This is just my opinion, Uncle Du. You should consult with experts," Lin Yun said gently. "Of course, you can allow a private company to invest, but they must listen and accept the government's scrutiny."
Lin Yun smiled inwardly. His goal was basically achieved. As long as Du Jing raised this concern to the government, there would definitely be a result. Whatever the result, he was certain that a private company would never have an easy life. It would be impossible for them to raise the price at will.
"How much do you know about cybersecurity?" Du Jing asked.
Lin Yun thought for a moment and replied, "I know a few things, Uncle Du. We can learn from the Federal States. They have a complete system. We should set one up."
He thought of the famous CIA triad as he spoke. "Their cybersecurity rests upon three core principles: confidentiality, integrity, and availability. Confidentiality is protecting information from unauthorized access. It involves various methods like encryption, access controls, secure storage, and data masking techniques."
"Integrity is ensuring data accuracy and reliability by using data validation techniques, digital signatures, and so on. Availability guarantees reliable access to information and resources. Systems and data must be accessible to authorized users when needed."
Du Jing was genuinely shocked by Lin Yun's words. "This is what you call knowing a few things?" he asked.
Lin Yun touched his nose and said, "This is what I've read on the internet."
Du Jing shook his head and said, "You don't have to be modest, Lin Yun. The cryptography you came up with could easily win you the highest honor. Even if you don't do anything else, this technology alone is enough to make your name go down in history."
"You've overpraised me, Uncle Du," Lin Yun quickly said. He warned himself to keep his mouth shut next time.
"I will report this to the higher-ups truthfully," Du Jing said with a serious expression.
"No problem, Uncle Du," Lin Yun nodded slightly.
He wanted nothing more than to have his name in the government's good books. He needed help from the government in the future, especially when he came up with a microchip. Without a government contract, it would be very difficult for him to compete with existing producers like Intel, AMD, and Nvidia.
After breakfast, Lin Yun went back to take a quick shower and dress up, heading towards the lecture hall that Du Jing told him about.
As soon as he walked into the hall, rows of computers immediately came into his sight, and there were many young and old people sitting behind them.
Professor Su got up from the front seat and greeted him. "You're here. Welcome to our academy."
"Hello, Professor Su," Lin Yun responded politely.
Immediately, everyone looked at Lin Yun curiously. They had heard about him before—a genius and the national examination champion. However, they were a bit skeptical about his invention of cryptography.
After exchanging a few words, Lin Yun put down his bag and stood in front of the whiteboard.
"Hello, everyone. I'm Lin Yun."
