Chapter 25 - CHAPTER 25: Huntran 1

(Presently)

"Leo, you are the last member of a long forgotten race of warriors" the old man began. "This race; the Huntrans were one of the first race of people to venture into the forever realm, it was even rumored that they had existed long before the humans and elves.

The Huntrans were blessed with many gifts with one of them being the ability to evolve.

"Evolve?

Leo interrupted

"Yes evolve" Fang replied before he continued with the explanation, "We all know evolution happens when a species body begins to adapt in order for them to survive a certain environment, this normally happens over the course of thousands of years but in the case of your people, Huntrans evolve every time they undergo a life threatening situation or physical trauma that in the process activates a hidden ability.

Leo laughed on hearing this "So what you are trying to say is that the more beat up I get, the stronger I become?

"A certain condition must first be met" Fang replied. Gesturing with his hands Leo beckoned the old man to continue.

"Huge amounts of mana must be absorbed for the process to truly kick-start, though there is another way for one to start the evolution".

Fang noticing the disbelief in Leo's eyes asked a question: "Can you remember what happened when you first unlocked the 'Devourer' ability?

Leo scratched his head in confusion while he tried to remember "It happened when I was 10, in a fight between me and some bullies, I remember feeling strange and fuzzy but I'm pretty sure there wasn't any mana being absorbed, after all we at the Night don't practice magic".

"All living beings possess Mana, it's just that some know how to utilize it more than others. Mana is present everywhere from the air that we breathe to the very water that one drinks. As a Huntran, your anatomy enables you to absorb mana from the environment and upon reaching a certain threshold, followed by an accompanied physical stress or trauma, evolution occurs; there is no limit to this evolution but what you should bear in mind is that not all physical trauma results in it.

"Judging by everything you just said how the heck were the Huntrans wiped out by humans? Leo took in another breath of air that was followed by another question "Secondly the Huntrans were wiped out many centuries ago, if so how am I even one of them?

Fang waited patiently for Leo to finish his questions and after a slight pause he spoke:"The Huntrans were not wiped out the way you think; their disappearance however is shrouded in so much mystery that even us great beasts couldn't for sure say how the Huntrans left this realm. many of them were killed but we do know that a few had actually survived, though the question that remained is where they had been hiding for so long? A question that took us great beasts some time to find the answer. And as for you being the last of your race, I will advise you relax and be at ease for this is going to be quite a long tale....

(Three hundred years ago in an empty desert)

A crimson looking dragon laid on the ground panting, cursing and scowling at the four massive beasts that stood above him. The silver stag with the broken antlers spoke first; breathing loudly, from the pain and wounds he had incurred in the battle "It is over Draghyr, your plans of conquering all the five realms has been destroyed". "Destroyed? Draghyr laughed spitting out a massive tooth onto the orange sand "My plan has only begun, you beasts should remember that a time shall come when you all will be nothing but bones, which mea...

"Even dragons die" Fang interrupted, growling, "And no ritual shall bring you back this time".

"Chaos can never die" the Dragon smirked, "I will make all of the realms mine even if it's the last thing I do". "So until next time" the dragon smiled; exposing rows of teeth while his body took on a golden light.

"He's going to blow" Ignus cawed taking to the air while the rest of the beasts hid behind a massive earthen shield courtesy of Klaus the red boar.

*BOOM* *BOOM*

A loud explosion ensued there after covering the entire sky with ash and smoke, leaving behind nothing of the dragon as even the bones melted away.

"He does have a point" Ignus said loudly as she landed on the blackened sand. "What do you mean? Klaus asked dismissing the earthen shield while wondering what the dragon could possibly mean.

"Draghyr will be back and I'm not sure whether we'll be there to stop him again" Ignus replied "It is said in the prophecies that only the 'Chosen one' possess the ability to banish that dragon to the fallen realm once and for all".

"But we killed the damn beast and as such I don't see why we have to worry about him resurrecting" Klaus pointed out.

"Draghyr was defeated at the onset of the realms but yet he still appeared millennia later, so what makes you think he wouldn't appear in the coming future? Ignus replied making the boar to grunt in obvious anger and frustration.

"And yet the prophecies also say that the 'Chosen one' is of a long extinct race" Fang said licking a nasty wound on his shoulder as he talked.

"This means that the Huntrans are alive somewhere" Ignus smiled as a sudden idea struck her in the head."I shall be off to the world tree to find some answers" she added taking off with frightening speed as she turned into a blur in the sky.

The rest of the beasts looked at each other in confusion and began the slow back home; their gait slow and disorderly, a testament to the many injuries that they had sustained in the earlier battle.
