Chapter 17 - You are really stubborn

George said indignantly:

"What do you take me for? A special agent trained by the state, my buddy risked his life to get these secrets from within the alliance."

"You have no idea, many people have died for this information, each one of them is a lone hero!"

Sterling believed about seventy to eighty percent of it, thought for a moment, and then pointed to himself.

"What does this have to do with me?"

"It has a lot to do with you!"

 George said nervously:

"Think carefully, during the virus outbreak, did you suddenly gain superpowers? This indicates that the genetic virus had a positive effect on you."

"Your kind, to put it bluntly, are as rare as pandas, the state wouldn't want to flatter you, maybe your blood could save the whole world!"

 "Damn it!"

Sterling suddenly stood up, subconsciously gripping the axe.

"The reason you kept me here is to make me a lab rat?"

"Bro, don't misunderstand, I really don't mean that!"

 George hurriedly explained:

"Don't be nervous, sit down, I'm really worried that you'll go astray, let me put it this way."

"The genetic virus that spread worldwide before was a semi-finished product, once infected, reason would gradually be lost, evil thoughts would sprout, and the sins in the heart would be infinitely magnified. If the infected couldn't withstand it, they would become the walking dead."

"You not only withstood it, but also gained superpowers, but for now, no one can say for sure if you will lose your reason one day."

"What if you become a zombie in the future?"

"Let me tell you, all kinds of research institutions in the country are working around the clock to tackle the virus samples, and the data is shared with us in real time. They say that as long as you always maintain clear reason, you won't become a zombie."

"You are already one foot in the door of the underworld, it's very dangerous!"

 Sterling sneered.

"No, I will never become a zombie, I am very rational and very clear-headed!"

"Don't be stubborn! I know you still have reason, otherwise you couldn't have listened to me for so long."

 George said with a smile:

"I'm telling you all this so that you won't be stubborn and come back with me."

"In a few days, non-combatants will be evacuated, you will return to the country with us. As one of the first batch of super new humans, I'm hoping you will help me rise in the future."

Sterling folded his arms and said:

"A good horse doesn't eat the grass behind it, since I left, I didn't plan to go back."

 "You!"

George stood up and threw out a sentence.

 "You are really stubborn!"

The atmosphere between the two became somewhat tense.

George lit a cigarette and exhaled smoke.

Sterling leaned back in his chair, lost in memories, and said:

"I am an orphan, grew up in an orphanage, and through my own efforts, I got into university, studied abroad, and this is how I got to where I am today."

"To be honest, I don't have such a deep sense of belonging to the country. When the end of the world came, I have the ability to live well anywhere, there's no need to go back to the country and be manipulated by others."

George impatiently extinguished the cigarette butt.

"So what if you're an orphan! Don't orphans have parents? Did you pop out of a stone?"

"I tell you, you wouldn't have grown up so big if it weren't for the welfare institutions set up by the country. Without the country, you would have starved to death on the streets."

George was angry and about to leave, but he turned back and said with emphasis:

"I'm not trying to morally bind you, but if you don't serve the country in times of national crisis, in my eyes, you are this!"

He gestured with his pinky finger and continued to mock:

"A traitor, don't make me look down on you!"

"Did you read so many books and put them all into a dog's stomach?"

"Don't you understand that every citizen has a responsibility for the rise and fall of the country?"

"Was it easy for the country to educate you and cultivate you?"

"Now the world has changed greatly, the country is at a critical moment of life and death, and your ideological consciousness is not as high as mine, who has less education than you!"

"If you still consider yourself a citizen of H country in your bones, you will come back to the country with me."

"A real man should protect his home and country, that's what a real man should do!"

Sterling was also wronged by this scolding.

"You are not right to say this to me."

 George said indignantly:

"I just ask you one question, will you come back with me?"

Sterling's exterior was calm, but inside, he felt as if a thousand ants were gnawing at his heart.

"I will go back, I will return to my country, but I won't go back to the embassy with you!"

 "Ah! Why not?"

 George was bewildered.

"I can't get along with them, it would be awkward for everyone at the embassy, better not to go back."

George paced back and forth, finally compromising:

"Alright, if you don't come back to the embassy with me, just meet up when the group evacuates, we can go back to the country together, right?"

The two finally reached an agreement.

Just then, the sentry outside raised an alarm, reporting:

"Captain George, it's not good, there are many zombies outside, it should be a horde, and there are many high-level zombies among them!"

George's body jolted, and he quickly picked up the walkie-talkie to order:

"Everyone on alert, prepare for battle!"

He then broke through the window and looked at the horde of zombies in the distance, feeling a shiver in his heart.

Sterling was also carrying an axe, about to come out and see the situation.

 George sternly pointed and scolded:

"Kid, your life is more valuable than ours, you hide somewhere quickly, if these beasts want to hurt you, they'll have to step over my dead body first!"

His words were sharp and left no room for refusal.

After shouting, he took the walkie-talkie and ran while commanding.

Many people rushed out of the embassy, fully armed, carrying out all the firearms and ammunition.

Through the slowly closing gate, you could see the survivors in the yard, under the direction of the embassy staff, panicking and hiding inside the embassy to avoid the imminent danger.

The battle was imminent, and an unprecedented sense of tension arose.

 "What's wrong?"

Alice and Amelia, the two women, nervously approached Sterling.

"Zombie horde, thousands of zombies are approaching!"

Sterling looked through the broken window and was shocked by the scene.

Countless, dark masses of zombies, like a flood or tsunami, were moving towards them.

Even more terrifying were the many tall and robust third-stage mutated zombies in the horde, who were particularly conspicuous due to their size.

These third-tier mutated zombies all carry weapons of various sizes, with the simplest ones being street signs, axes, machetes, and many other bizarre and strange items.

"My God, isn't that the Abomination from the legends?" Alice exclaimed in surprise, covering her mouth, while Amelia, also terrified, turned pale.

Abominations are hellish creatures from Western mythology, also known as Stitch Beasts.

Now that Alice mentioned it, Sterling hadn't thought of it in that direction. Upon closer inspection, it really did resemble the Abomination from the legends.

"Let's run, run far away and hide!"

Amelia was terrified, pulling Sterling to leave.

The soldiers preparing for the battle hurriedly passed by, seeing the three dazed people, and ordered without any politeness:

"What are you waiting for, hide already, go!"

Sterling didn't budge, his gaze shifted from the abominations to George.

At this moment, George stood on the cover, raising his arm and shouting.

"Brothers, we are staunch materialists, let's overthrow all the ghosts and monsters! Fight them, protect the people!"

At this moment, it seemed as if George was radiating light, the light of a hero.

This also reminded Sterling of the heroes who sacrificed for the country, George's figure overlapped with theirs!
