[Ding]
[Alice's admiration for you has reached 100%]
[The Admirers' Leaderboard has been activated]
"What the hell?"
Sterling, who was in the midst of slaughtering zombies, was momentarily stunned by the system's notification sound.
It was just this brief lapse in attention that allowed the zombies to pounce, nearly overwhelming Sterling.
"Die, all of you!"
The fire axe, wielding the power to split the heavens and the earth, decimated all the zombies that lunged forward.
Leaping with agility, Sterling landed steadily on the roof of a car and glanced at the [Admirers' Leaderboard] within the system. In bold red letters, Alice was prominently listed first with 100% admiration.
Below were numerous other names, but with no time to scrutinize, Sterling closed the system and continued to dispatch zombies methodically.
...
The embassy's convoy was leading the way, advancing towards the airport with a grand procession, attracting almost all the zombies along the way, which followed persistently.
"Clank, clank,"
As the convoy moved forward, zombies continuously lunged and clung to the vehicles with ferocity, their lower bodies crushed under the wheels, yet their upper bodies still clung desperately to the car bodies, refusing to let go.
The windows were already covered with coagulated blood and decaying flesh, the blood-red hue spreading over the vehicles, the gory scene was shocking to the senses.
The passengers inside the vehicles, from beginning to end, hugged their heads and wept, some who had lived abroad for years, continuously prayed, begging God for salvation.
Some of the more courageous men fired their guns at the zombies outside, and when their ammunition ran out, they used the butts of their guns to smash the zombies clinging to the vehicles, but these individuals were in the minority.
On the bus, Abigail, clutching her briefcase, had cried herself into a tearful mess, terrified by the grotesque and terrifying zombies outside.
David was rather brave, wielding a baseball bat and striking the zombies outside the window, covering himself in blood.
Many people were avoiding the situation, hiding as far away as possible, and some even hid under the seats, praying with their heads in their hands.
The driver, drenched in sweat, held the steering wheel with trembling hands, staring numbly ahead, terrified of making a wrong turn.
"Squeak, listen up back there, the airport highway is just ahead, if we push through with all our might, we'll be safe!"
Good news came through the walkie-talkie, the lead vehicle was reporting joy.
"In the midst of misfortune, we are saved!"
Someone muttered tearfully.
David, exhausted and weak in his limbs, let out a sigh of relief and said:
"The zombies chasing us are getting fewer, we've successfully shaken them off."
The second piece of good news once again excited everyone, causing cheers and jubilation.
Little did they know, the zombies were not shaken off, but someone was attracting the tailing horde from behind.
...
Sterling's momentum in killing zombies was immense, having killed hundreds at the very least as he chased along the way.
The zombies following the convoy were attracted by the commotion from the rear and most turned back like moths to a flame, which also led to an increasing number of zombies surrounding Sterling.
In front was a dense army of zombies, like a sea of people, lunging and clawing their way forward.
The driver, Amelia, was on the verge of tears, but Alice looked up with anticipation, waiting for Sterling to strike.
As expected, Sterling, who was sitting on the roof of the car, shot out like a cannonball, landing in the midst of the zombie horde, causing an explosion of air that knocked the zombies off their feet.
Sterling then made a double jump, not slowing down as he soared into the sky, suddenly erupting with sparks of electricity in mid-air.
He was like a walking generator, wherever he passed, the sparks of electricity contacted the zombies, causing explosions, with decaying flesh scattering all over the street.
Sterling continued to charge forward, clad in a sci-fi mechanical exoskeleton, like a futuristic warrior, ramming through the horde of zombies, with hundreds of obstructing zombies vaporizing in an instant.
"Awesome, oh, I'm in love!"
Alice, with a dreamy look, clasped her hands together, her eyes filled with the mighty Sterling.
"Let's survive first."
Amelia was relatively calm, responding while driving.
After dealing with the zombies, Sterling sprinted at high speed, collecting the scattered cards along the way, and when the sedan passed by, he leaped onto the roof to look into the distance.
The embassy's convoy had already entered the elevated highway, which led to the airport.
The number of zombies following the convoy was not many, but their power was still formidable.
When turning onto the high bridge, some zombies were pushed off the bridge, and others clung to the vehicles, like sticky dog skin plaster, hard to shake off once attached.
"Ah! Help!"
One of the sedans in the convoy was slowed down by a zombie, whose rotting head repeatedly hit the car window.
"Crash, bang"
The window shattered, and the zombie, with its bloodied maw wide open, crawled in and bit the driver's arm.
"Ah!"
The driver screamed in terror and, in a panic, turned the steering wheel sharply.
The vehicle broke away from the convoy and headed towards the edge of the elevated bridge.
"Clank"
Sterling could clearly see the sedan falling, with several zombies falling off the bridge with it.
Sterling's car was about a kilometer away from the embassy convoy, and he could see the road ahead, a benefit entirely due to his enhanced attributes.
Driving at a kilometer distance, which was not close, Sterling watched as the convoy entered the elevated bridge, and his car followed suit.
There were quite a few zombies at the bridge entrance, and Sterling jumped down for a harvest. When he was done, he saw several people covered in blood crawling out of the fallen sedan.
"Help, save me!"
They waved desperately at Sterling, hoping to be rescued.
But Sterling saw clearly that among these people, one was the female classmate who had falsely accused him, and the rest were executives from Charles's company.
Sterling turned a blind eye, flipped onto the sedan, stood on the roof, and stared coldly ahead.
"You're not human, you won't help those in need! I'll haunt you even as a ghost!"
These unfortunate souls were knocked down by the horde of zombies, bitten, torn apart, and dismembered, dying as miserably as one could imagine.
"One reaps what one sows."
Sterling paid no attention to these scoundrels, keeping his gaze fixed straight ahead.
The elevated bridge...
Due to the zombie outbreak, some residents, in an attempt to find refuge, drove away from the densely populated city, leading to a series of traffic accidents all over the highway, creating a massive traffic jam.
Fortunately, the lead vehicle of the embassy convoy was an armored car, which plowed through obstacles with unstoppable force.
The crisscrossed wrecks could not halt the convoy's progress; otherwise, this congested section would definitely have been a major hassle.
There were few zombies on the highway, and with the embassy convoy clearing the way ahead, Sterling didn't need to go on a killing spree. He simply sat on the roof of the car, calculating the gains from the journey.
He opened the system to find he had accumulated 2178 points of dark energy.
At the moment, he still didn't know what this dark energy was for.
With nothing else to do, he took the time to study the newly acquired [Dark Affinity].
[Dark Attribute Description: Can hide in the darkness, concealing form and presence, and can extract dark energy for personal use.]
It seems like the dark affinity is of little use during the day, doesn't it?
