Teni had been calling Amara for the past an hour, urging her to come to the birthday party of her brother, She knew it would be an extravagant affair, one of those fancy, invite-only events filled with people who had more money than she could fathom.
Amara was overwhelmed with different thoughts, seeing herself as someone who is not qualified enough to attend the party.
"Come on, Amara, it's going to be fun! You can't back out now. You've already said yes!" Teni, said softly on phone.
"Hmn!, I know I had promised you to attend the party with you, but..." Teni interrupted her "don't even try to change your mind in this late hour, I won't agree with that. Get up now and start coming "
Amara let out a long sigh and dropped the pen onto the table, her fingers running through her hair. She glanced at the clock—7:30 p.m. The party started at 8.
"The idea of walking into a room full of strangers, especially people who lived lives so different from me, made me anxious", Amara said reluctantly. "That is not a big deal", Teni voice sound encouraging.
"I don't know, Teni. I'm not sure I fit in with those people."
"Are you serious? Amara, you are more than fit! Besides, you're my best friend. They'll love you. Just wear that your beautiful dress you bought recently, and you'll look like you belong".
Amara smiled at that, her thumb hovering over the keyboard as she tried to push away her doubts.
"I don't know… I'm not good at this whole "party" thing. I'd rather just stay home and watch a movie". Amara, sounds doubtful.
"I will have to end the call and text you, I need to attend to something now. But just know I am expecting you right away", Teni spoke convincingly as she end the call with her.
Teni's message came through almost immediately.
Teni: How do you want me to cope with the people there, I will be stuck right there in the midst of wealthy but boring people. You know by now you and I know how will do our things.
Amara: You are making me feel more important than I am, Teni
Amara blushed as she typed the message.
Teni: It's not like it's your regular party. It's Dennis' birthday bash. And I promise you will enjoy yourself.
Amara's heart skipped at the mention of Dennis. Dennis, the billionaire. She could practically hear the excited tone in Teni's response.
Teni: I don't know if you've heard, but meeting Dennis in person is an event you won't want to forget in a hurry.
Amara couldn't suppress a small laugh at that.
Amara: I'm not looking for a billionaire to swoon over, Teni. You know that.
Teni: I know, I know. But every young ladies out there are looking for such an opportunity to meet the young billionaire. Trust me, he's a humble man than you think. Now, go and get ready!
Amara has not been to party for a long time, her mind swirled with different thoughts.
She sighed deeply and sent a reply.
Amara: Fine. I'll come. But you owe me big time for this.
The reply was swift.
Teni: YES!!! You're the best! I will come to pick you up at 7:45. Wear that dress!
Amara glanced over at the dress Teni had insisted she put on. The dress is a deep burgundy satin piece that shimmered under the light. It was a little more... attention-grabbing than anything she usually wore, but she'd go with it.
Thirty minutes later…
A knock on her door startled her, She opened the door to find Teni standing, her eyes wide with excitement.
"Amara, you look stunning!" Teni exclaimed, stepping inside. "I knew this dress would be perfect on you."
Amara blushed, and she feels more confidence to attend the party.
"I am already feeling like everyone will be staring at me because of this dress. I am feeling a bit shy already."
Teni rolled her eyes. "Oh please. No one is going to care about your dress. You're not going to be the only one dressed up. Now let's go have fun!"
When they finally arrived at the venue, Amara couldn't denied her amazement . The mansion before them was nothing short of magnificent. Her expression shows, that was the first time seeing such a luxurious mansion.
"Oh my God," Amara muttered. "This place is insane."
"This design is fantastic, I so much love the aesthetic features that welcome me".
Teni was already bouncing out of the car, practically dragging Amara behind her. "See? Isn't it amazing? Now, let's go have some fun!"
"This is… this is too much," she whispered to Teni, clutching her purse.
Teni winked. "It's only too much if you let it be. Remember, you're not a second class to anyone. You're my best friend, and you're going to have fun tonight. Guard your expression, don't be carried away by everything you will still see".
As they approached, Amara caught sight of Dennis across the room, talking with a group of businessmen. Her heart skipped a beat, but she quickly looked away, not wanting to draw attention.
Teni noticed her reaction and grinned. "I see you noticed him. Don't worry, I'll introduce you later. But for now, relax. Let's grab a drink."
Amara adjusted herself and she tried to feel relaxed. Teni make her feel at home and comfortable, she never allowed her to be loat in thought for a moment.
"The way to the rest room?" She asked Teni.
"I will lead and you will follow... We are twins today. I will not want one man to start tailing you around". Teni said, softly.
"I am flattered, why are you like this Teni. You mean you will usher me to the rest room?" Amara asked confusedly.
"I will, let's go". Teni, spoke as she lead her to the rest room.
Some guest has started noticing their closeness and gestures and some wondered where Teni has met such a lady that has won her heart over.
