"Dante, are you also here to register your starter?"
After that whole debacle, Luis and Dante formed a sort of friendship. Both of them began making some small talk while waiting for their turn. Coincidentally, Luis was number 688, just two places before Dante.
"Yeah, I'm going to register Pikachu as my starter. How about you?"
"I'm the same. I passed the Pokemon Trainer Exam 2 weeks ago. It was just recently that I finally got my Scyther back. Hmm, you know…Hey Dante?"
"Yeah?"
"How about we have a battle after this? Let me see the strength of the trainer that will stand on the same stage with the Champions in the future pfft-"
Luis laughed again after joking about what Dante said earlier. However, Dante became interested after hearing what he said.
"Hear that, Pikachu? What do you think about having a battle after this?"
"Pika!!" (I'm on! Let's teach him a lesson for laughing at you!)
Looking at Pikachu's angry expression, Dante was amused and a little touched. Clearly, while he himself didn't care about Luis' jokes, Pikachu was very angry about it.
"You hear that? Pikachu and I are game!"
"Wonderful! While a Pikachu as the first opponent of my Trainer career is not as ideal as I imagined, no offense Dante, it would still be great winning an inverse attribute battle."
Dante's eyebrows twitched hearing Luis' words. Dante considered himself as a mild-tempered person, but even he would get angry at being so looked down upon.
"Hehehe, none taken. I'll surely make the first battle of your Trainer career very 'memorable' indeed."
Dante lost interest talking to this guy after that and instead began thinking about possible battle plans against Scyther.
Scyther is a Flying and Bug type Pokemon that is bipedal and insectoid. Its body is primarily green and has a thin, cream-colored section between its head, thorax, and abdomen. Its reptilian head has two narrow, triangular eyes and three blunt horns extending from its forehead. Its arms end in large, white scythes, which it uses for both hunting and fighting.
Scyther has a high Attack and Speed stat, so Pikachu must try avoiding close combat as much as possible. Dante doesn't know how much trained Scyther is. Even if Scyther only reaches half of its maximum racial limit in each stats, it would still crush Pikachu.
Pikachu's current stats are in the range of 23 to 25. If Scyther's stats are half its racial limit, its Attack and Speed would be above 50 while its defensive stats will be above 40.
'This is assuming that Scyther has half the racial limits however. It could be much lower, or it could also be much much higher. Whatever the case may be, my plan must be to lower its speed, keep distance, and make use of Pikachu's type advantage.'
After making the general plan against Scyther, Dante imagined various scenarios that may arise during the battle.
"Dante, I'm up. I'll wait for you to finish outside."
Waving his hands, Luis got up and walked towards the reception desk. After some time, the panel moved and it showed 690, Dante's current number.
"Good afternoon! What can I do for you?"
"I'm here to register my starter Pokemon."
"Okay, please give me your Trainer ID and the Pokeball of your Pokemon."
Pikachu reluctantly got back to the Pokeball which Dante handed over to the receptionist along with his Trainer ID.
The receptionist smiled and thanked him, then put both of the items under a scanner. After it beeped for a few times, the light turned green and the receptionist handed the items over back to Dante.
"Thank you for registering! And congratulations for obtaining your first Pokemon!"
After thanking the receptionist, Dante walked away from the counter and released Pikachu. Dante showed Pikachu the Trainer ID while taking a look at it himself.
Honestly, Dante thought it would be more high-tech. Instead, it looks like they just pasted a photo of Pikachu in one of the slots.
According to what he read, the Pokeball containing Pikachu was registered in the Alliance's main database under his own ID number. Therefore, Pokeballs registered by other trainers will not be able to capture Pikachu.
"Pika-chu~"
Seeing his own icon in the Trainer card made Pikachu have a sense of accomplishment.
"To commemorate this day, let's have dinner at some fancy place tonight! Of course, only after we beat that guy."
"Dante, here!"
Speaking of the devil, Luis called out Dante at the entrance of the Center. From the looks of it, he was also excited about the first Pokemon Battle of his 'Trainer Career'.
"Follow me, I already rented the battle room from the Pokemon Center."
"Huh? Aren't we going to the park?"
Shrugging his shoulders, Luis told him that after becoming an official Pokemon Trainer, they are able to rent a space for battle in the Pokemon Center.
"It's usually used by Trainers who are waiting for their Pokemon to heal. There's a bunch of basic training equipment there too."
Dante was speechless about how multi-purpose the Pokemon Center is. And if he remembered correctly, Trainers can also rent a room here to stay for the night while waiting for their Pokemon to heal.
Luis led him away from the treatment center and towards a huge hallway. There, they saw 10 rooms spread far apart from each other.
Following Luis into one of the rooms, he saw that the inside looked a little high-tech but was mostly empty. Except for some barbells, treadmills, and other equipment for exercise lying assembled around the edge, the most noticeable thing was the battle arena marked in the middle.
"Come on let's go Dante! Let's have a magnificent debut, Scyther!"
Seeing Luis impatiently releasing Scyther, Dante walked to the Trainer area opposite while telling the battle plan to Pikachu. Pikachu nodded at Dante and then entered the battle area opposite Scyther.
"Rotom! Please serve as the referee to this battle!"
As Dante was getting ready, Luis on the opposite side suddenly shouted.
"*Bzzt* Trainer Luis Sanchez was verified to have permission to this room until 4:16 PM. Application successful! This Rotom will serve as the referee for the battle between Trainer Luis and Trainer Dante."
A Drone Rotom suddenly floated out of a groove in the wall right after Luis' call. From its words, it can be seen that it's the AI in charge of this place.
"Uh, Luis? How much was the rent for this place?"
"Hmm? Not much, just 10k per hour."
Dante was a bit speechless. Although he already guessed that Luis was rich from his clothes and manner of speaking, hearing this confirmed it.
"Are both Trainers ready for battle?"
"I'm ready!
"Yes!"
"Then let the battle begin!"
