Chapter 22 - Crushed

Luis Sanchez came from a trainer family. His grandparent is the former Gym-leader of a Flying-type Gym, and after retiring passed it down to his father.

Ever since he was a child, Luis' family had high hopes for him to surpass both of his parents and grandparents to become a part of the Elite Four, and possibly even the Champion!

Therefore, ever since he could remember, his life was filled with nothing but Pokemon. Attribute restraint, basic tactics, Pokemon abilities, etc. he studied them all.

Everytime he learned a new Pokemon knowledge, his parents would praise him and boast that he would definitely become an Elite Four.

Overtime, Luis also yearned to meet his parent's expectations, possibly even surpass it and become the Champion.

As he became older, seeing his peers in school all wasting their time in hanging out and pursuing love made him feel a bit of disdain towards them…along with being a bit of jealousy.

After taking the Pokemon Trainer Examination and getting first place, Luis couldn't help but give birth to a thought 'No one among my peers can be my enemy'.

With Luis' background, he doesn't even have to take the entrance exam of the university. Instead, universities were scrambling in order for him to join them. When choosing a university, Luis couldn't help but have a bit of an ambitious thought.

He didn't plan to choose the famous International Pokemon University or Philippines Pokemon University. He wants to choose other universities and lead it to become the winner in the Inter-University Competition!

Of course, Luis isn't arrogant enough to think that he can lead a group of drags and defeat the first place university team all by himself. Therefore, he chose Manila Pokemon University which ranked 8th place in the last competition.

In addition to those reasons, he also hoped to stay in a University that is located far away from home.

While his parents gave him a generous amount of allowance, he doesn't have much free time to spend it. Over time, he began yearning for more freedom. It was the reason why he chose to travel to Manila two months before the university even opened.

Even though they were a little reluctant to let him live alone, his parents still allowed it. They bought him a condominium near the university.

In the beginning, Luis was overwhelmed by his newfound freedom. He spent 1 week wandering around this unfamiliar city, lost on what to do. It was only when he received Scyther that just got back from the month-long training program that he finally had something to focus on.

According to their family's style of teaching, Luis will be the one responsible for training Scyther in terms of its stats.

The family will only teach Scyther to initially grasp all the moves it can learn. In this way, both the Pokemon and the Trainer can accompany each other in groping their way to the top, while still having an advantage against other new Trainers.

Scyther, after evolving into Scizor, can undergo Mega Evolution in the future. However, the prerequisite for that was that the Pokemon and the Trainer must have a strong bond.

Therefore, Luis and Scyther must form a bond between each other through constant interaction in their daily life, training and getting stronger together, and battling with other Trainers.

When he was registering Scyther as his starter Pokemon, he heard something very funny. Someone was talking about becoming a Champion like it was something that will definitely happen in the future.

What a joke! If only becoming a Champion was that easy. He himself came from a prestigious family, studied about Pokemon all his life, and he wasn't even sure about becoming a part of the Elite Four!

Luis, as someone with a father who struggled for countless years in the Gym-level, knew just how monstrous the Elite Four and the Champions truly are.

When he saw the boy of the same age as him was the one who said it, wearing very common clothes, and a Pikachu as a starter, he laughed out loud. He tried really hard to contain himself, to follow the etiquette taught by his teacher.

However, when he thinks about how he even says that Pikachu can defeat Cynthia's Garchomp in the future, he really couldn't contain himself.

With his studious lifestyle, he already memorized the racial limits of each Pokemon. Raichu, Pikachu's evolution, doesn't even have any stats that exceed 100 except for Speed.

You know, to be considered as an Elite Four-level Pokemon, every stat must reach at least 100! That's just the qualifications needed to challenge for the position of the Elite Four. And even then, his father still hasn't reached that qualification.

If the Pokemons of the Elite Four are that scary, then how strong are the Pokemons of the Champion?

Luis himself wasn't sure. But even if Raichu really reached the Champion-level, he would still have no chance against Garchomp who absolutely has an attribute restraint against him.

Luis apologized and then befriended Dante.

In his previous school, Luis has a group of 'friends' which he can order around whenever he finds something inconvenient. Although Dante was a bit naive in his opinion, Luis wanted to form another group of 'friends' especially in this unfamiliar city.

As long as he shows how rich he is, this Dante will surely be willing to become his 'friend'. And for their first friendly activity, Luis wanted to have a battle with Dante.

He and Scyther needed to strengthen their bond. And what better way to strengthen their bond than to win in a battle!

From beginning to end, Luis hasn't even considered Dante and Pikachu as an opponent. For him, winning against someone of the same age was just a matter of course.

"Both side are ready? Then, let the battle begin!"

With the Rotom's signal, Luis on the opposite side quickly took action.

"Scyther, use Agility while moving around Pikachu!"

Scyther on the field began to move quickly, and circled around Pikachu.

Dante was a little relieved after seeing Scyther's initial speed.

'His speed should just be almost double that of Pikachu. It's alright then, we aren't suppressed that much in terms of attributes.'

"Pikachu, use Growl!"

With Scyther's current speed boosted by Agility, there was no way for Pikachu to hit him with Thunder Wave. Using Growl, a move that lowers the attack of any Pokemon that hears it, is better to suppress the physical attacker Scyther.

"Tsk tsk tsk, Dante, we must be flexible in battle. Just because the books says that Scyther is a Pokemon focused on Speed and Physical Attack, doesn't mean it can't use any Special Attack! Scyther! Use Bug Buzz!"

Scyther suddenly emitted sound waves using his wings while moving around. Bug Buzz is a Special Attack Bug Type move with a base 90 power and a large attacking coverage.

Pikachu was hit by the attack and grunted in pain. With the high base power of the move, it caused a large amount of damage to Pikachu.

The only reason Pikachu can still stand now after taking this move is because Scyther's Special Attack stat is relatively low. However, if the situation on the field continues, then Dante and Pikachu will definitely lose!

Hearing no command from Dante, Pikachu gritted his teeth and stood his ground. He believed that his partner could find a way out of this situation.

Looking at the Scyther constantly running around Pikachu, Dante suddenly found the hope of turning this battle into victory.
