Chapter 27 - CHAPTER 27: THE RECKONING FILE

Wallace, Laura, and Antonio left Lucia in the office and headed down to the hall where the tenants were gathered. There were seven men, five ladies, and a young boy among them.

"Good morning," Wallace greeted as he entered. The others stood up, saw Wallace, and greeted him back before introducing themselves one by one.

After the introduction, Wallace walked forward.

"You should know the reason I called you here," he said.

"Are you going to sell the house?" one of them asked.

"No, but things are going to get messy now. I've rented a plaza outside for two months, so you can live there until I've finished dealing with the issue," Wallace explained.

"But we have most of our jobs here," another tenant said.

"You can come here during the day to work and leave when it's evening," Wallace instructed.

"That's the solution I can offer for now, or else living here will be dangerous for you."

"What about you? If it's dangerous for us, it's equally dangerous for you," another tenant pointed out.

"I'm the owner, so whatever I say applies. Antonio will take you to the plaza this afternoon; it's not far from here. Starting tonight, none of you can sleep here. You don't have to worry about me," Wallace said, turning to leave before they started questioning him. Laura walked out with him.

"Have you prepared everything?" Wallace asked.

Laura nodded.

"Take me to the room, then," Wallace said, leading them to a corner. They walked to the edge, where a small door was located. On top of the door, "Warehouse" was written. It was a place tenants were not allowed to enter.

They both entered, and Wallace locked the door. Laura turned on the light, revealing a small room with pristine white walls and nothing in it.

"This is where the security lock is," Laura said, starting to move the wooden planks on the floor in the center of the room. Wallace stood with his arms folded, watching her.

Because of her incredible physical capabilities, it was not difficult, and within a minute, she finished removing everything, revealing a circular object on the ground. That was the security lock; if it was tampered with, the whole building would collapse, burying everything underneath.

Wallace took out his laptop, a USB drive, and connected a cable to the side of the circular lock. He opened an app on his laptop, and soon, a "Beep" sound was heard, making Laura flinch.

Any small mistake would make the building collapse, and even though the tenants must have been taken out by this time, it would still be troublesome.

Information from the security lock was downloaded onto the laptop. A series of complicated codes appeared. Wallace saw that there were three main pieces of information needed to unlock the lock. He started typing complicated signs, breaking the information down into a series of codes.

"Beep" Another beep was heard, causing Laura to flinch. This continued for ten minutes, with a total of thirty beeps, making Laura's heart rise to her throat. Finally, after ten minutes, the last beep was heard, followed by a click.

The metal floor parted, revealing a set of stairs. Laura looked excited.

"Come here," Wallace said, and she squatted beside him.

"I've replaced the head's information with my information. I also want to put your information there, so in case I'm not in the city and you need something, you won't need to wait for me," Wallace explained.

Laura nodded, and within a minute, everything was finished. Her fingerprint, facial information, and voice were soon stored.

Apart from her, Wallace was the only one who could open it.

They both entered the staircase and into the room.

"How much of the funds are here?" Wallace asked.

"Most of the funds are from transporting arms, weapons, and energy to close to thirty countries secretly, so the whole funds here, if converted, will be up to a trillion dollars," Laura answered.

"Carlos family is rich indeed," Wallace muttered shocked when he heard the price.

"What are you planning to do with all this wealth, then?" Wallace asked.

"We don't know yet, but the family is planning to have their own country, but it's easier said than done. We don't have the manpower to venture into it," Laura said.

"That's a bold dream," Wallace said.

They had already reached the underground floor, which enveloped most of the building. The lights turned on, revealing gold bars arranged in an orderly manner. The gold bars, in width, occupied seventy percent of the warehouse.

It was close to a hundred meters in length, a hundred meters in breadth, and fifty meters in height. Laura's face shone when she saw the funds. Even though she knew the worth, seeing the gold like this made her eyes shine immensely.

"Let's look for the reckoning file," Wallace said, his clairvoyant ability enveloped the room, but not completely. He soon found a gold bar that was placed on top of another gold bar. He raised his hands up, and the bar flew into his hand. He looked underneath and slid the surface off. The gold bar was hollow inside, and inside lay a flash drive.

"This should be it," Wallace said.

"To think that in this small flash drive lies information that can destroy the politics of five countries, I respect the Carlos family immensely," he said, looking at the flash drive.

Laura nodded. "Every year, the laptop containing the information that our underground forces have dug up will be brought to the family head, and he will bring it here and upload the information onto the flash drive and arrange it. He has been preparing just for a day like this," she said, her face turning sad.

"Let's start," Wallace said.

"We have to go to the prosecution office first; that's what we need." They both walked out from the underground floor. They arranged everything and walked out from the warehouse. They returned to the office, where Lucia was.

"Did you find it?" Lucia asked.

Laura nodded.

"Let's start with the prosecution office first," Wallace said. "The two of you should dig out information on the prosecution office first. We have a meeting with him tonight."

**************************************

That evening, a man walked out from the General Prosecution Office of the Italian Supreme Court, under the respect of others. He was Veneto Corrado, a fifty-five-year-old prosecutor and the one who led the General Prosecution Office in Rome.

He entered his car, and the driver drove him to a hotel. He made a reservation here every night before going home. He had a mistress here, so he enjoyed himself before going home to meet his children. His wife died ten years ago due to cancer.

He entered the hotel room, and the car waited downstairs. He enjoyed himself before leaving. He entered his car, and it drove off. The car drove towards the east of Rome, where there were mountainous regions.

"We've arrived," Antonio called out.

"Where's this?" Veneto asked.

"Get down," Antonio said.

Veneto shivered when he saw the pistol in Antonio's hand.

"Get down," Antonio commanded. Veneto opened the door and got down.

He entered the tall plaza that was being built but was uncompleted. They took the stairs to the third floor. By the time he reached the third floor, he was already panting for breath, but he dared not stop, even though he was dead tired, because of the gun pointed at his head.

They entered one of the rooms, and he saw someone sitting down with a table in front of him. There was a chair on the opposite side. He could not see who the person was clearly, but he could see the smoke coming out of his mouth.

He was pushed towards the guy. "Please, who are you?" Veneto asked with a shaky voice.

"I'm Wallace Ace, the head of the Carlos family," Wallace answered, puffing out the cigarette in his mouth.

Veneto's eyes widened, and he coughed out. "Take a seat," Wallace commanded.

Veneto took a seat. "What...?" he wanted to talk but could not finish what he wanted to say due to fear paralyzing him.

"This place is a little desolate, so I can easily kill you here," Wallace said.

"But if you die, it won't do justice to your wife, whom you killed ten years ago, Clara. You killed her when you were just twenty-five, and Cinzia, whom you killed when you were thirty-one. It won't do justice to the three victims from three different murder cases under you that you made innocent people take the blame because you received bribes," Wallace listed out a series of crimes.

Veneto's eyes widened with each word Wallace said, and his face paled with each name Wallace brought out.

"Should I still continue?" Wallace asked.

"Please, what do you want?" Veneto asked.

"Should I kill you, or should I release them little by little?" Wallace asked.

Veneto knelt on the floor immediately.

"Please, I will do anything you want."

"Okay, your first mission, then," Wallace said.

"I want you to accept the case of Storm Corporation and proceed over it while you give a fair judgment as soon as possible. I don't have much time."

"I will do it," Veneto said hurriedly.

"Okay, then," Wallace stood up and walked towards the entrance.

"You should know your way home."

Wallace made his way out, leaving the shaking Veneto there.
