Chapter 2 - Chapter 2

Detective Charles and Daniela sat across from Emily in the conference room. "Emily, we need to ask you some tough questions," Charles said gently. Emily nodded, her eyes welling up. "Can you explain your argument with Diana yesterday?" Daniela asked. Emily hesitated. "We disagreed about...an upcoming project. Diana was being secretive, and I felt left out." Charles scribbled notes. "Did you notice anything unusual around the office?" Emily darted around the room before responding, "I saw Diana arguing with Marcus Thompson's assistant, Victoria, some moments after ours." Daniela's eyes narrowed. "What about the mysterious package?" Emily's voice dropped to a whisper. "I don't know what was in it, but Diana was frantic after receiving it." Charles leaned forward. "Where were you between 7 and 9 am today? "Emily's eyes widened. "I was...at a coffee shop at 7 am for some while studying for a certification exam, then I came to the office and saw her laying flat on the floor "Charles raised an eyebrow. "Can anyone confirm your alibi?" Emily hesitated before pulling out her phone. "I have a receipt from the coffee shop...and a text conversation with a friend.""We will first interrogate Ms. Victoria, before going further", Charles added as they stride out of the large company, with different new reporters and cameras flashings at them, different voices parading the air, the masses were hungry for answer, besides they are the best in crime solving, they walked silently not answering their raging question before they got into a car and drove off to Ms. Victoria's house. just then the car came to a halt in front of a house standing tall on its own, they rang the doorbell, waiting for response. a fair lady walked to the door dressed in long black gown as she opened the door, "good day Ms. Victoria, I'm detective Charles and this is Daniela Cruz" he said displaying his official badge," Good day mister" she replied, " Any problem" she asked, " not really, but we need to interrogate you due to Ms. Diana death" he said, her eyes widened but she replaced her expression with a smile and welcomed them in. "okay have your seat" she said before locking the door behind them.Detective Charles and Daniela sat across from Victoria, Marcus Thompson's assistant in the living room. Victoria's poised demeanor belied a hint of nervousness. "So, Victoria, we understand you were in close contact with Diana Cruz," Charles began. Victoria nodded. "Yes, we collaborated on several projects. Diana was a brilliant businesswoman." Daniela leaned forward. "We've discovered a cryptic email between you and Diana. Care to explain?" Victoria's eyes darted to Charles before responding, "It was just a misunderstanding. Diana was concerned about Marcus's business practices." Charles raised an eyebrow. "And what about your alibi for the morning of the murder?" Victoria hesitated before pulling out her phone. "I was at the company cafeteria, working on a project." As Victoria handed over her phone, Daniela noticed a text message from an unknown number: "Keep quiet." "Who sent this?" Daniela asked, her eyes locked on Victoria.Victoria's composure faltered. "I...I don't know. It must be a wrong number. "Charles's expression turned skeptical. "We'll look into it. Meanwhile, Victoria, don't leave town no matter what circumstances."his last word sounded like a threat to her, after some seconds they left her house had a stride to the car before zooming off, she peeped through the window blinds as they left, jus then her phone rang with anticipation, staring at her phone, she picked up the call, after some seconds of listening, she added, " they just left here", she said before ending the call and adding a smile of deception. After the interrogation, Daniela and Charles decided to investigate Victoria's alibi. They arrived at the coffee shop, where the barista confirmed Victoria's presence. However, as they left, Daniela spotted a familiar face across the street – Emily, Diana's secretary. "Charles, look!" Daniela whispered, nodding toward Emily. Charles followed her gaze. "What's she doing here?" Daniela's eyes narrowed. "I think she's following us. "Without hesitation, they approached Emily, who seemed startled. "What are you doing here?" Daniela asked. Emily hesitated before responding, "I was just...uh...meeting a friend. "Charles raised an eyebrow. "At the same coffee shop where Victoria was?" Emily's eyes darted between them before she quickly turned and walked away. "Looks like we have another lead," Charles said, his eyes locked on Emily's retreating figure. As they watched her disappear into the crowd, Daniela's phone buzzed. She glanced at the screen and her eyes widened. "What is it?" Charles asked. "It's the forensic report," Daniela replied, her voice barely above a whisper. "Diana's laptop contains encrypted files. They're hidden behind a password-protected folder. "Charles's expression turned serious. "Get the tech team on it. We need to uncover what's in those files. "As they walked back to the station, Daniela couldn't shake the feeling that they were getting closer to the truth. But with each new revelation, the web of deceit seemed to grow thicker. Who was hiding what? And would they uncover the truth before the killer struck again? As they were on their way back, Daniela couldn't resist her thought as she had suspicion on Victoria, "I think Victoria's hiding something. Let's dig deeper. "Charles nodded. "I'll get forensics to analyze her phone. You investigate her alibi. "The sun dipped below the horizon as Daniela stepped down from the car while walking to the large door of the tall sleek hotel before emerging the elevator which led to the 5th floor, before entering her room, already exhausted and all, she flings her bag on the bed, lost in thought. She couldn't shake the feeling that Victoria was just a pawn in a larger game, still not realizing she wasn't the only one in the room at that moment, just then a voice drew her back from her trance, she turned around as her eyes gazed on a slender looking figure that stood behind her with a dead smile on her face. Daniela walked up to the person standing there, " its been a long time, dear" Daniela said, just then the person added, " I see a lot is happening"
