Chapter 8 - Chapter 8

Charles and Daniela devised a plan to confront Mr. Cruz. They arrived at his mansion after hours of tracking down his current location, determination etched on their faces. Inside the mansion, Mr. Cruz's eyes narrowed. "What brings you here?" Charles's voice was firm. "We know about your threats against Diana. "Mr. Cruz's expression turned cold. "You'll never prove it." Daniela stepped forward. Charles's eyes locked onto Mr. Cruz. "Not if we stop you first." Suddenly, a figure emerged from the shadows. Dr. Taylor, "Ah, perfect timing," Mr. Cruz said, his eyes glinting with malice. "Dr. Taylor, please show our guests the true meaning of power. "Dr. Taylor's eyes flicked to Charles and Daniela, a hint of unease in her gaze. But she nodded, her expression hardening. Charles's instincts screamed a warning. What was Mr. Cruz planning? "Let's get out of here," Charles whispered to Daniela. But it was too late. The doors slammed shut, trapping them. Mr. Cruz's laughter echoed through the room. "You'll never leave this place alive. "Charles's eyes met Daniela's, his heart racing. They were in grave danger. Charles's eyes scanned the room, searching for an escape. Daniela's hand found his, her grip tight. Dr. Taylor stepped forward, a small device in her hand. "This is a neural disruptor. It will render you unconscious." Charles's mind racing, he calculated their odds. Two against two, but Dr. Taylor's device tipped the scales. "Don't do this, Dr. Taylor," Daniela pleaded. "You're a doctor, not a killer." Dr. Taylor's expression faltered, but Mr. Cruz's voice hardened her resolve. "Proceed, Doctor," he ordered. Charles charged forward, but Dr. Taylor activated the device. A blinding light enveloped him .As he fell, Charles saw Daniela crumple beside him. His vision blurred. When he came to, Charles was alone in a dark cell. Daniela was nowhere to be seen." Daniela!" he shouted, pounding on the door. 'Silence'. Charles's heart sank. Where was Daniela? Was she alive? Determined to escape and find Daniela, Charles examined his cell. A small ventilation shaft caught his attention. With a deep breath, he began to climb. As Charles climbed through the ventilation shaft, his muscles ached and his lungs burned. Sweat dripped into his eyes, blurring his vision. But he pressed on, fueled by determination to find Daniela. The shaft narrowed, forcing Charles to crawl on his belly. Dust and debris choked him. Suddenly, a faint noise echoed through the ductwork. Charles froze .Charles's heart pounded. Had he been discovered? The footsteps faded, and Charles exhaled slowly. He continued crawling, his senses on high alert. A vent cover ahead looked promising. Charles carefully removed it. A sliver of light illuminated the room below. Charles peered down. Daniela. She sat on a bed, her eyes vacant. A guard stood outside her cell. Charles's grip on the vent cover tightened. He had to get to her. With a deep breath, Charles lowered himself into the room. The guard turned, his eyes narrowing. Charles took him down silently, his training kicking in. Daniela's eyes flickered open. "Charles?" He rushed to her side. "We have to get out of here. Now." Daniela's gaze cleared. "What about Dr. Taylor? She's working with Mr. Cruz." Charles's jaw clenched. "We'll take care of her later. First, we escape." Together, they made their way through the corridors. But Mr. Cruz's voice echoed through the intercom. "You'll never leave this place alive." Charles's eyes locked onto Daniela's. "Time to move." Charles and Daniela sprinted through the corridors, their footsteps echoing off the walls. Alarms blared to life, and security guards closed in. "We need a plan," Daniela panted. Charles's eyes scanned their surroundings. "Stairwell. Now. "They burst through the stairwell door, taking the stairs three at a time. Charles's phone buzzed with an incoming message." Dr. Taylor's location," he whispered, showing Daniela the screen. Daniela's eyes widened. "She's in the lab. We can use that to our advantage. "They reached the lab floor, and Charles carefully opened the door. Dr. Taylor stood over a console, her eyes fixed on a screen. "Welcome, Charles," she said, her voice cold. "I've been expecting you." Charles's eyes locked onto the console. "What's going on, Dr. Taylor?", Dr. Taylor's smile twisted. "Mr. Cruz's plan is already in motion. You're too late." Daniela stepped forward. "What plan?" Dr. Taylor's eyes flicked to Daniela. "The neural disruptor was just the beginning. Mr. Cruz has a more sinister plan for Diana." Charles's grip on Dr. Taylor's arm tightened. "Tell us." Dr. Taylor's expression faltered, and for a moment, Charles saw a glimmer of the doctor she once was. "I didn't mean for it to go this far," she whispered. "Mr. Cruz has a personal vendetta against Diana. He's been manipulating her for years." Daniela's eyes narrowed. "What does he want from her?" Dr. Taylor's voice dropped to a whisper. "He wants her to take over the company...and then he'll destroy her." Charles's eyes met Daniela's. They had to stop Mr. Cruz. But as they turned to leave, Dr. Taylor's words stopped them. "There's something else. Something I didn't tell you." Charles's eyes locked onto Dr. Taylor. "What is it?" Dr. Taylor's expression turned grave. "Diana's not who you think she is.", "Diana's not who you think she is," Dr. Taylor repeated, her voice barely above a whisper. Charles's eyes narrowed. "What do you mean?" Dr. Taylor hesitated, glancing around the room nervously. "Diana's past...it's not what it seems. She's been living a lie." Daniela's eyes widened. "What kind of lie?" Dr. Taylor's voice trembled. "Mr. Cruz manipulated her memories, erased her true identity. She's in grave danger." Charles's grip on Dr. Taylor's arm tightened. "Tell us everything. "Charles nodded. "We'll stop Mr. Cruz, no matter what." Dr. Taylor's expression turned desperate. "You must hurry. Mr. Cruz's plan is unfolding. Diana's life hangs in the balance. "Suddenly, alarms blared, and the lab's lights flickered. "What's happening?" Daniela asked, her voice laced with concern. Dr. Taylor's eyes darted to the console. "Mr. Cruz has initiated the protocol. We have to escape, now!" Charles's eyes met Daniela's. "Time to move." They sprinted out of the lab, Dr. Taylor leading the way. But as they reached the corridor, Charles's phone buzzed with an ominous message: "Diana's gone. Meet me at the rooftop. Come alone." Charles's heart sank. Who was behind all this message?
