Linda's POV
The smell of leather and ancient books filled the air as I sat in my father's former study. I opened the sealed package with trembling fingers that read, "To Linda only if the worst happens."
Kevin was standing next to me with his arms folded and a strained look on his face. He whispered, "Are you sure you want to do this now?"
I swallowed hard and nodded. "I have to. If there's something here that explains all of this... I need to know."
A handwritten will, with somewhat faded but still readable ink, was inside the envelope. My heart ached as I saw my father's distinctive handwriting. My pulse raced as I read the first few lines.
"To Linda, my dear daughter,
I hope that everything I leave behind will give you the strength to continue, even though I may not be there to assist you. If you are reading this, it means that my greatest fears have come true."
Kevin bent over and looked at the paper. "What does it say?"
