Chapter 27 - The Necromancer

Jared's body shifted to avoid the incoming blade by a hair's breadth. He drifted to the left, raising his left hand seemingly unintentionally, and a silver light shot out from underneath him, as Caroline flung her chain sword at her opponent with uncanny precision, leaving a visible mark on the broken and worn armor. But the enemy is not the slightest bit moved, his upper body just shook for a moment, and then immediately looked into the empty air next to the body, broken serious long sword without hesitation, seemingly meaningless action but stopped in an instant, accompanied by the sound of metal friction Jared's silhouette seems to appear, backward a roll to avoid the other hand is again a sweeping slash. He stood up, the two swords in his hands were still dim, Jared was watching, or rather calculating how to give this guy enough damage. Or rather, how to kill this difficult enemy.

This may seem like a silly question, but when you're in front of a guy with no head, it's incredibly important.

They came across this thing called the Undead Rider at dusk.

After some discussion, the people still decided that no matter what, first leave this ghost place before. After all, regardless of whether this is a trial or not, somehow teleporting themselves and others to the forbidden zone is also playing too much. Tawana didn't have a problem with it, and although Kylie was cursing, she didn't want to go against them. Fortunately, the Forest of the Undead was located just east of Lily's City - a full third of the uninhabited country was here. What was once an enchanting place of beautiful scenery hundreds of years ago has now become a wilderness of death.

But when Jared and the others met this barely alive thing here, but before they had time to make any preparations, this weird-looking guy drew his sword and slashed at Jared and the others.

"This thing sure is a pain in the ass."

Jared flew lightly backwards, landing firmly on the hard, dry ground. Caroline stood on the other side, her chainsword dangling like a viper, ready to bite.

The illusion didn't work? What the hell is this guy looking at?

Jared gazed at the area above his opponent's neck, where there was nothing, not even eyes to be seen, and frankly, wasn't that what the Headless Horseman was all about?

"Can you guys stop admiring it and come up with something?"

Jared helplessly moved his body while keeping his distance from this troublesome enemy, while raising his voice and asking.

"How dare you, as a warrior, order me around?"

  Kelly grunted and retorted angrily.

"It is your duty as Guardians to protect us! Figure it out yourself!!!"

Jared didn't say a word, the black double blades spun out, just in time to resist the opponent's attacking worn-out longsword, bursting out with a crisp sound and bright sparks. If it was an ordinary weapon, I'm afraid it would have been cut off by Aozora. But in fact, it was obvious that even though this Undead Knight's sword seemed to be a poorly made one with three coins each, it was still able to fight against a weapon that could even cut through armor made of fine steel and iron.

The reason for this bizarre situation lies in Jared and Caroline's weapons.

Their Rune Armor is not a physical object, but an artifact of magic. Under the guidance of mysterious magical energy, the weapons were formed by materializing their spiritual energy. It could be said that what Jared and Caroline wielded was in fact their own spiritual energy, their very lives. That's why their weapons are sharper and tougher than ordinary weapons. After all, their weapons possessed souls, whereas ordinary weapons were merely dead things that could not possibly withstand their attacks.

But the Undead Knight in front of me is, in a way, almost identical to both of them. As a long dead undead, any part of his drive is formed by the soul itself. That's why ordinary attacks have no effect on this headless horseman at all. Even Jared's weapon, which was also made of souls, was only a match for him.

  "Hmph, that man ...!!!"

Kylie looked at the two fighting, a hint of resignation in her eyes. As a genius magician, she has lived under the praise and protection of everyone since she was a child. She has never been coldly looked at by anyone, whether it's her intelligence, or her appearance, Kelly is quite confident in herself. She also believes that there is no way that a woman as smart and beautiful as herself could fail to attract the attention of a man.

But after meeting Jared and the others, Kylie realized that she was being treated like she'd never been treated before.

Who is that man? He's just a soldier. How dare he tell me what to do?

She gazed at Jared in the middle of the field and grunted. Tawana, on the other hand, watched the battle in front of her nervously, her small hands clenching the corners of her coat.

  "Lord Kelly ... me ..."

  "Don't be paranoid."

Kelly glared at Tawana, and scared little Tawana gulped down what she was about to say.

"You're just a magic envoy, and judging by the solidity of this undead's condensed form, it's already beyond the scope of what a guy like you can handle. Hmph, I'd like to see how long a warrior like them can hold out in front of this kind of undead!"

Caroline drew back, the shining chain sword was like a silver ribbon curled around the undead knight's feet, but the next instant Caroline suddenly frowned, at the same time, her left hand flicked out, and only then she barely stabilized her body, and did not get carried over by this strange undead knight. The blue sky in Jared's hand turned into a black flash, and he was able to pick off the Undead Knight's charging sword attack.

And at that moment, the Undead Knight seemed to be getting restless.

The pale, thick aura of the dead rolled out from under its feet like a sea of life-giving clouds that swept in and devoured it.

  "The Sea of the Dead?!"

Tawana screamed, and even Kylie's expression changed. The Sea of Necromancy is a natural skill that only the most advanced undead creatures can use. This white gas, similar to a sea of clouds and mists, will absorb the life of the prey caught in it and turn it into the life force of the caster. Hardly anyone can escape from this spell alive, even the strongest barbarians will die a silent death until the last breath of life is absorbed.

  "Brother Jared! Get back!!!"

Caroline, who was at a distance, was fine, but Jared, who was in close combat with the undead knight, didn't even have time to react, and was drowned in the white aura of death like a small fish caught in a giant wave. Tawana covered her mouth and let out a small wail. Kylie's face also changed slightly, no matter how strong she was, she also knew that as a magician, if she didn't have someone to protect her, then she was no different from a weak woman. Previously only because of anger and intentionally find trouble childish behavior, but at this moment has become a true suicide behavior. This made Kylie's heart generate a kind of indescribable feelings, she quickly swept a glance at the already darkened sky, then raised her hands, a wonderful mysterious gesture accompanied by a light and fast, absolutely not at this time should not appear the sound of chanting incantations, the wind slowly began to gather in her fingertips, forming a new power.

Caroline transformed her chainsword back into its original form, she scanned the area somewhat anxiously, then slumped her shoulders in relaxation.

  "Phew... really dangerous."

The sudden sound made Tawana and Kylie startled, they were surprised to look towards the place where the sound came from, but they found that Jared did not know when he had already left the Sea of Necromancy, he stood leisurely away from the sea of clouds, holding the black double-edged sword upside down, gazing at the necromancy in front of him with great interest.

  "How can ...?"

Whoever it was saw that in that moment, Jared was indeed engulfed in a sea of clouds. And after that, there was no way he could have escaped. But now, there he stood, as if in irony.

"Looks like it's time for me to get serious."

  (You're overplaying your hand.)

  Caroline's accusations were unflinching.

"I'm sorry, I'm sorry, but I'd really like to try and see what it would be like to fight the legendary Headless Horseman."

Jared didn't look the least bit reflective, and then his expression turned serious.

Low, commanding words escaped his lips.

"Rune Armament - Twin Sword Form."

The original double-edged longsword instantly disintegrated into primitive black runic lines circling in the air, and then, in Jared's right and left hands, each formed a sharp black longsword. Jared was holding the two swords, staring at the sea of the dead and the figures drowning in it.

"Sacred Sword - Streaming Cloud, Resonance Mode."

As he spoke, he raised his swords, and at that very moment, a small humming sound suddenly escaped from the serene swords, as if they were trembling. As Jared maneuvered and felt the weapons in his hands, the energy began to form, build, and combine. Once again, it became a point of origin that could shatter everything. Jared's body arched forward like an athlete preparing to run.

  The next moment, he's gone.

At the same time, both Tawana and Kelly were amazed to see something they had never seen before in their lives.

The original thick, devouring all the life of the sea of clouds as if by a huge wind pressure cut as a blast apart, forming a huge X-shaped gap. At this moment, Jared has appeared in the other side of the clouds, he just stood on the ground, the black double blade in his hands without a trace of clouds. However, the dead aura had begun to dissipate, as if attacked by a violent hurricane, and disappeared in the blink of an eye. When the two saw the scene in the center of the field clearly, they could not help but cover their mouths in surprise, so as not to let the screams break out.

The original indestructible body of the Undead Knight has now turned into fragments and slowly disappeared into the air.
