As I went out, everything replayed in my head.
The entirety of what he did to me in the past. The way he left me after he took my chances of getting a mate. It's one thing to make someone hold on to something.
It's another thing to betray the person without an ounce of regret. To think he left me so helpless, when I wanted a mate, he gave me regret.
"Nova," he called. Jared kept going after me, and even when I entered the elevator to take me down he followed me.
He entered, making me scoff out loud. With folded arms, I asked. "What do you want from me, Jared?!"
My wolf was too sad to face this right now. The fact he kept following me wasn't just helping.
"I should be asking you that." he seethed.
"What??" I uttered. We are the only two in the elevator and this was getting out of hand.
"I know you took this job slot to spite me. You're here to get back at me aren't you?" he said staring at me with his green eyes and drawing closer.
"You think I'm here because of you?" I let out. He sure had some nerves. Kicking me out as his Luna, and saying those words like I wanted him.
"It's obvious."
"Aren't you ashamed?" I blurted only for his eyes to flicker lower. I checked what he was staring at only to see my cleavage had poked from my shirt.
"Yeah, call me that, but look at that. Look at you right now. You look attractive, so different from how you looked like five years ago. You wore that to spite me, didn't you?"
I rolled my eyes at his words. "You're saying a hell load of crap because I didn't even know you were the so-called boss of this company." The elevator dinged open. "Now that I know, I'll look for a job elsewhere."
"Nova, wait." he rushed after me. His workers downstairs had their eyes on us, with wonders.
"Can you leave me alone, Jared Blaze? That will put a smile to my face right now." I muttered.
"Oh please," he said rolling his eyes with a grin which fell across his handsome gaze. He looked pretty in this situation yet still. He must have a thing for doing what he did all over again.
"I know you. You don't just show up out of the blue after five years. Just like the way you mated me to find the cause of your sister's death."
"What?!" I let out wondering how he knew that. "How do you know about that?!"
"What do you think? That I'm perhaps stupid?"
"I knew it. You knew something about her death, didn't you? Did you kill her?"
"What are you talking about…? No." he let out.
"Was it your mum then?"
"What do you mean?" he replied, asking.
"Now that we are back in town, are you going to eliminate my whole family?"
"Nova, listen." he told me taking my hands in his which made electricity ooze on my skin. I wriggled my eyes wondering why I still felt the bond even when we rejected each other.
"No, you listen. We are done, so done which means, I don't want to be seen around with you. I don't want to bump into you even at work neither do I want you to be my boss."
I said those words taking my hands from his. For an instant I thought I saw a pained look on his face but it was quick to fade off.
"I get that but you need to hear me out at least," he said with a softer look. "I didn't murder Claire. She was a good employee; apart from that she helped us communicate with the moon goddess. You know what that means to an Alpha, don't you?"
"Oh my God, I can't believe this." I said preparing to walk away. "The fact that you keep playing the humane card scares me because I don't even know where the demon lies."
"What demon??" he uttered with a stern expression.
"We both know the demon here, and just so you know I'm not interested in making conversations with you, or exchanging dialogues, Jared. Please forget me, we no longer exist in each other's worlds." I commenced walking away from him.
The nerve he had to confront me, I thought trying to calm my wolf. She wanted to go away from the hurt. And, with the way everything kept replaying, I almost cried. Even if those years had passed, it felt like it was yesterday.
This was what I thought as I got out of the entrance of Moonstone enterprise, I had moved on now, life happened. The minute he stops showing up I should be able to pick myself up once again.
"Nova!!" I could recognize that voice from anywhere. It was Jared's and he was making his way to me once more. The sunlight spread across his head so it made it hard for me to see him clearly. From the broad shoulders and hefty muscles, I doubted a bit.
Years back, he wasn't built as this.
But then my eyes flickered lower to see the polished expensive Oxford shoes. The suit seemed familiar, and gradually I began to see it was him.
The minute he became clear, I sighed. Maybe this was it, one of my unlucky days because it looked like it.
"Can you stop?" I said with a nagging tone. "I just told you what I felt but here you are again. Isn't that just great?"
"What if I told you I can prove that neither I nor mum was responsible for your sister's death?" he asked making my brows furrow.
"I'm supposed to believe that? How can you?" I folded my arms once more, asking him only to notice he was holding a brown book opening it and flipping the pages gently.
"Here," he said pointing. "Your sister signed out from work by 2pm, and was found dead by 9:30 pm which is approximately seven and a half hour."
"So? How am I sure this book isn't forged?" I let out.
"If it was forged," he flipped the pages over making me see details of his other employees. "I wouldn't have this, other employee's credentials."
"Hmm," I said. "Why are you telling me all this?"
"Because I won't sit back and watch you accuse me of something I didn't do." he seethed.
"Does it still make you guiltless?" I questioned. "The fact that you did those unspeakable things, Jared?"
"I understand your reasons and I'm not in opposition to that. I came back because I wanted to clear that air." he suddenly said and a car parked in front of us. It was a SUV convertible. "Goodbye, Nova Willows."
