The fact that he just walked away made me even more furious. I became so angry that my wolf reached out to me. She soothed me saying, "This isn't the first time. We aren't to expect anything much from him."
My heart tugged. "I want to understand that but I have a child for him. He put me through so much. He's supposed to be sorry."
"The sooner he knows about Claire the better." she said.
"No, it's better to keep it from him. He's going to hurt us again if he knows." I said knowing that this was better for everyone.
"Okay, I agree then." she said heading back inside.
I walked to the other side of the road to board a cab. My entire day had been ruined already and with this mood, looking for another job wouldn't cut it.
"I can try tomorrow." I stated as the cab went off. The entire house was empty when I got back. Dad was on site, mum was at school and so was my daughter, Claire.
I kicked off my shoes at the entrance, opening the fridge and bringing out some milk. I poured some cereal into a plate mixing it and taking it to my room. Just as I was about to remove my blouse, I recalled Jared. The moment he called my name again.
"Impossible." I said. He shouldn't turn up in my head at things like this. We were over, so over. I said throwing my clothes inside the laundry bag stomping to take my grey shorts and loose white shirt.
I made my way to my cereal eating and pressing my phone at the same time. I had to find it. I typed his name on the search bar only to see it was true.
"It read, "Jared Blaze is the owner to the multi-billionaire Moonstone enterprise. From his projects, he just might be on a stepping stone to partnering with international organizations like..." I stopped reading.
I shouldn't be stalking him. It didn't make sense. If I did this, who knows I might turn out to be kissing him later on. "But he looked kind of different today, more grown." I said clicking on images. The search results brought out so many pictures of him. It made me realize he was now a media personality.
There were photos of him, which showed his growth. He looked good in his pictures but he rarely smiled in most of them which was part of him. While we had been mates, Jared was anti-social. He was rarely seen in large events or social gatherings. But with the way he was involved in these, I was beginning to think he had changed.
Not that he concerned me though.
"So this is what you look like now." At the sight of his current mate, I said. My second sworn enemy.
Her blonde hair was neatly packed in a French bun and she looked like she had her face done. Her lips contained fillers which pumped them a bit making me throw the phone away. "This was what you left me for?" I said.
Taking the phone again I made my way to the mirror which was plastered to the mini dresser at the left hand side, just beside the cupboard. "Look at that," I said putting the phone beside my face. "She's not even prettier than me. None of my parts are done and yet I look better."
I went towards another picture of her which she took in a gym zooming it to her belly. She looked petite, especially around her waist but mine contained some fat from my pregnancy.
Ever since I gave birth to Claire, regaining my previous body was impossible. There was this cut sign around my abdomen. I had a C-section done because I couldn't push out my baby. The pack doctor said it had to do with the fact that the father of the baby was still mating with another person.
This had affected me during labor making me have a labor dystocia. I didn't pass any of the stages to complete birth on time so they result in it.
It hurt when they told my parents their reasons. Who would have thought that we'd come back to Moonstone pack again?
Now that I had healed, it left some scars in around my bikini line. From the picture I saw, Jared's mate had none of such. Maybe her own delivery was smooth. I mean they were made for each other.
He was her rightful mate. Still... I wonder why their child wasn't in sight. Maybe they kept him off camera. I scrolled searching for them only to find nothing. I gave up, turning on my pc and seeing some movie to pass time.
I didn't have to pick Claire. Since mum worked at the same school she was in, she offered to bring her back which was okay by me. I just hope I found it on time.
I needed to know who killed my sister. It's been five years now but everything seemed like it was just yesterday.
…
"Mum, can you help me with my drawing?" Claire asked sitting with her coloring pencils. She pouted as she said those words.
"Sure, let me see it dear." I said sitting down with her. It was a Fine arts assignment and she was told to draw a fish on her workbook. "Oh, one sec." I said taking her bag and bringing out her Fine arts textbook.
I checked the table of contents flipping to the one which contained the figure setting it beside her workbook.
"Here," I said, holding her hands. "You can start from the body so you size the entire thing, it's easier than way."
"Okay mum." she said. A while later, she seemed to be getting it. I put dots on the areas that needed shading. Just as she was shading it, I stared at her lashes. They were long, very much like her dads.
In spite of the fact that her father showed up today, I was going to keep it to myself. She didn't have to know something that would hurt her. To be honest, I wanted Jared as far from Claire as possible.
"Nova, can you come here? I want to tell you something important." I heard mum call from the sitting room which was opposite the dining Claire was in.
"Is everything okay?" I stared at her asking. "Is it the school? They want Claire out, don't they??"
"Oh no, no. Everything is fine at her school. She was even commended by some teachers. She seems to be picking up fast." At mum's words, I smiled. I knew it. I knew she wouldn't let me down.
"Then what is the problem, mum?"
"I was looking at the school's magazine today and stumbled on a picture of the Alpha. Here," she showed me. "This picture says that he was with the detectives around the time we lost your sister. I searched on the article only to find out that the Alpha had been chasing the case all along. However, the court declared it unsolvable."
"What??" If this was true then I was wrong. Jared couldn't go to this extent if he was trying to cover up her death. Moreover, the log book was another proof. He showed me that with a stern look that denoted he was serious.
Something was off. There was something I wasn't seeing. And something told me it linked to the packhouse.
"Mum, I have to be somewhere, please watch Claire!" I said walking to grab my coat.
"Huh? It's almost late, moreover it looks like we're going to have a storm. Where are you going?" she asked.
"I have something to attend to." I told her wearing my boots. I walked to the dining, "Claire, mummy has to be somewhere, be a good girl and don't give granny a hard time."
"Okay, mum." she said. I kissed her forehead, rushing out the door and slamming it shut. I noticed the cloud had begun to darken. A very strong breeze blew and thunder stroke. That minute, rain began to fall heavily.
"Nova, come inside, whatever it is, it can wait till tomorrow. You're not going to make it at this rate." she said. I took my boots off heading back inside
The moment I left, a branch of tree snapped falling. Mum gave me the look sipping her coffee. "I told you. Always listen to an intuition of a guardian wolf."
"Mummm," I sighed wondering why the rain had to get in the way.
"If I were you I'll reconnect with my abilities so they begin to surface." mum said.
I wish I could. But I was too focused on raising Claire right now.
