David had just ended a conference call when the secretary budged in. He hated it and she knew it. So why did she even do it?
David would never have chosen that lady to be his secretary. She wasn't the brightest bulb. He looked up at her and, in a cold nonchalant voice, asked how many times he had asked her not to badge in like that.
The secretary apologised. She apologised every day and he hated it. Why couldn't she have a spine and voice her motives? Now she stood there timidly and he was infuriated. Why was she there? Why?
"Speak or just leave already!" David barked.
"I am sorry, sir. The Rivers sisters are here to see you," she said timidly.
"Rivers? Both of them?" he asked, got up. She nodded eagerly.
David smiled and asked her to let them in in ten minutes. He stood by the window and looked out, his hands in the pockets. That was unexpected. He would have expected Violet to attack Asia. Well, maybe Violet had a heart after all.
The Rivers were beauties by all standards. Tall, elegant, dark skinned with brown eyes. Their brown eyes were enchanting, if anyone looked at them that way.
Anyone would want to marry the Rivers sisters. David's friends, out of ignorance, liked the idea of him having bedded both of them. He chuckled. He hadn't, wouldn't bed any of them.
Like Asia said, if David had to choose between death and bedding a woman, he would choose death. He wasn't wired to find them attractive, not in a sexual way. But he loved Asia in a way that even shocked himself.
Why were they there? Asia had lost a lot protecting David and he would always protect her. Would she agree to a platonic marriage? Marry for the papers and go for artificial insemination? She would choose death.
Asia wouldn't cross her sister like that yet Violet was mean. She had messed up but mistreated the sister. She constantly fed the media nothing but lies.
They didn't know but David had bought the place the Rivers sisters lived and registered it under Asia's name.
David knew their mother cared about nothing but wealth. Had she not approached him asking him to marry Asia? Yes a Mara had to marry a Rivers but he wouldn't be that Mara. There was a knock and he walked back to his seat.
"Hello darling," David said to Asia, smiling.
"I hate you!" Asia snapped.
"I would like to speak to you in confidence, David," Violet spoke demurely.
"I will be right outside … David no. Right outside," Asia quickly left before he could object further.
Asia sat and waited. She was offered a cup of tea she gracefully accepted. If only David played ball. If only he agreed to get back together. But that was highly unlikely. David was stubborn. Plus, both families knew Violet had strayed. That boat had sailed.
Asia sipped the tea as David's personal assistant briefly came to speak to the secretary then disappeared to her office adjacent to David's. What was taking them long? Asia checked her silver wrist watch. The secretary was watching her and she hated it. The door was opened.
"Asia, a word," David called as Violet walked towards her calmly, too calmly.
"David has said it. You are sleeping with him you tramp!" Violet shouted.
David's assistant came out of her office in time to see Violet pull a knife from her bag at the speed of lightning. She charged at Asia while David, acting on instinct, ran after her.
Before Asia could move, Violet dug the knife on Asia's upper thigh, missing her pelvis by an inch. Asia screamed in pain as David pulled Violet off her.
"You came to my office with a knife? Are you mad?" David held Violet's arms to her side tightly.
"I will kill her! I will kill her before she marries my man," Violet struggled hard to get free.
"I am not your man, Violet. You are going to jail for stabbing my friend," David said.
David grabbed Violet hard as she wiggled, trying to get to the knife to stab Asia in a more fetal position.
David pushed Violet to the ground while security rushed in. As they picked, Violet, she screamed for Asia's head, kicking violently.
Asia was crying hysterically calling David to help her. He knelt by her seat and held her face in his hands. She was shaking so hard he panicked.
"David, am I going to die?" She asked, shook his shoulders.
"No, Asia. You will be fine. Let me take you to the doctor," he said, attempted to pick her up.
"No, pull out the knife first, David. It is hurting me," Asia said, pointed at the knife.
"No, Asia. If I pull it, you will bleed to death," David said, sure of his knowledge.
David made a call. Then he picked up Asia, who wrapped her arms round his neck and sobbed. Asia was bleeding. Then she passed out, probably due to shock at the amount of blood she was losing.
Or maybe she was shocked by the fact that Violet could actually stab her. Or maybe it was because David lied that she was sleeping with him. How dare he! Seriously! The deal was not to reveal the truth. It was not to lie. Asia would wrestle him to the ground. She would.
David made a call as they were rushed to his place. He spoke on the phone and said Asia had passed out. He needed to be sure that wasn't life threatening.
It was shock, not the bleeding, that caused her to pass out. David could breathe. He watched Asia, still in his arms. She seemed at peace.
Violet was like a rabid dog that needed to be put down. David was sure, if let free, Violet would do it again. It was in her nature.
Asia's face was wiped minutes later. She opened her eyes. She was in bed. When she saw the knife still there, she screamed afresh.
