Chapter 4: Close Quarters
As the days passed, Reg found himself growing more and more accustomed to Emma's presence. She was always there, quietly efficient, anticipating his needs before he even had to ask. At first, he'd found it annoying, but as the hours turned into days, he began to appreciate her kindness and dedication.
One morning, as he was getting ready for the day, Emma knocked on his bedroom door. "Good morning, Reg. I've brought you some coffee and toast."
Reg opened the door to find Emma standing in the hallway, a tray balanced expertly in her hands. She smiled, and Reg felt a jolt of surprise. He'd never really noticed how beautiful Emma was before. Her eyes sparkled, and her hair, usually pulled back into a neat bun, was loose, framing her face.
"Thanks, Emma," Reg said, taking the tray from her. "You didn't have to do that."
Emma waved her hand. "It's no trouble, Reg. I'm just glad I can help."
As Reg watched her walk away, he felt a pang of... something. He wasn't quite sure what it was, but it felt strange, like a flutter in his chest.
Over the next few days, Reg found himself stealing glances at Emma, noticing the way she moved with quiet confidence, the way her eyes sparkled when she laughed. He began to look forward to their conversations, finding himself opening up to her in ways he never had with anyone before.
Emma, too, found herself drawn to Reg's charming smile and piercing blue eyes. She'd always known he was handsome, but she'd never allowed herself to think of him in that way. Now, as they spent more time together, she couldn't help but feel a flutter in her chest whenever he was near.
But Emma knew better than to fall for the arrogant CEO. She'd seen the way he treated people, the way he expected everyone to bow to his whims. She wasn't about to become another conquest, another notch on his belt.
So she pushed her feelings aside, focusing on her work and keeping her distance. But as the days turned into weeks, Emma found it increasingly difficult to ignore the way Reg made her feel.
