Skylar's POV
I stared hard into the screen; there was a damned map staring right back, yet my brain could make little of it, either. He could literally feel his anger swell high, building and boiling-this tight, bitter burn clasping around at his chest like some gnarled fist, his tummy twisted behind into knots. Mys fingers, knotted into fists took tight hold of the paper so the first tears started appearing in it.
"They're just playing with us," I muttered, my voice hoarse. "This is all a game to them."
"Skylar, don't-" Julian's voice cut through my spiraling thoughts, but I sliced him off with a sharp shake of my head.
"Don't you dare tell me to stay calm, Julian. How can I stay calm when they've got them?" I whipped to him, the edge of my words slicing the air. "It's all your fault, anyway. You were supposed to keep them safe. You promised me that.
