Sophie's POV
The knock on David's apartment door felt heavier than it should. Maybe it was my guilt, or maybe it was the weight of the promises I'd already decided to break.
When the door opened, Hannah stood there, arms crossed, her lips pursed. Her glare was sharp, but her red-rimmed eyes betrayed her. She'd been crying.
"You shouldn't be here," she muttered.
"Can I come in?" I asked softly.
She hesitated but stepped aside. The living room was modest but warm. David appeared from the kitchen, wiping his hands on a dish towel. He looked at me, then at Hannah, and gave a sheepish smile.
"I'll give you two some space," he said, retreating back into the kitchen.
Hannah plopped onto the couch, her arms still folded. I took the seat beside her, careful not to invade her space.
"I'm sorry," I said after a long pause.
