Chapter 2 - Terrible Liar

At the end of the night, Hobi drives them back to the studio. Jungkook thanks them all for coming along. Tzuyu thanks them and bows deeply before running over to her van.

"I should have gotten the drinks," Jungkook mutters as they all watch Tzuyu climb back into her van.

"What?" Taehyung asks.

"I should have been the one to get the drinks," he repeats.

"Why?" Jimin asks. "Hobi doesn't mind."

"I should have been the one," Jungkook repeats. "She likes the way I make her drink." He pauses. "I should be the one to make her happy."

"You're being weird, Kookie," Hobi says. He smiles softly over at his friend, and Jungkook returns the smile with a wink.

Taehyung doesn't know what that means; he knows that Jungkook doesn't like sweets, so it's not like he wanted the drink. He feels that pang in his chest again and doesn't know what to do.

He watches as Jungkook walks over to their van and climbs in.

It's a month after the collab and nearly two weeks after the bakery, when Tzuyu first asks about him. They're on their lunch break, and she pulls Jungkook to the side as they walk. Taehyung pretends not to notice and turns up the volume of the music playing in his earbuds.

"What is it?" Jungkook asks.

"Your friend," Tzuyu says softly. "The one you came with tonight. He never talks to me."

"He's shy," Jungkook replies with a shrug. "Don't worry about it."

"But he never talks to me," she repeats.

"He will," Jungkook reassures. "He'll get over it soon."

"How do you know?" she asks.

"He'll get over it," Jungkook smiles.

A few days later, Jungkook pulls Taehyung to the side. They're getting ready to head home for the day, and the others are too tired to notice them leaving together.

"Just listen," Jungkook instructs.

Taehyung nods his head, and Jungkook grabs his hand. He drags him off towards their cars; their manager's voice calling out behind them.

"Guys," he says as they walk away. "Where are you going?"

"I'll call you," Jungkook yells back before pulling Taehyung behind one of the vans.

"What are we doing?" Taehyung whispers.

"Waiting," Jungkook responds. "She'll be here."

"How do you—?"

"Just wait," Jungkook interrupts.

Taehyung waits; it's not more than a minute before her voice calls out from around the corner.

"Jungkook," she calls out, her voice low and soft. "Is that you?"

"Tzuyu," Jungkook calls back, stepping out from behind the van and into her sight. Taehyung stays where he is and watches.

Jungkook steps forward; Tzuyu does the same. They meet in the middle, and Jungkook holds out his hand.

"Here," Jungkook says as he holds out a can of soda. "You wanted a drink. Here's one."

"Jungkook-ssi," Tzuyu starts.

"Jungkook." He interrupts her, taking a step forward.

Tzuyu's eyes look at the drink in his hand, and she reaches forward. Taehyung can't see her, but he hears her laugh.

"I like the way you make me drinks," Tzuyu giggles. "Can you pour it into my favorite mug?"

"Of course," Jungkook replies. "Let's head inside."

They walk away together. Taehyung steps out from behind the car; he looks up at the studio door. He sees the two of them walking inside, and he feels a pang.

It's not long before the others notice that Jungkook is missing. Their manager calls him multiple times, but Jungkook doesn't pick up. Taehyung looks up from his phone to see the rest of BTS staring at him. Jimin holds up his phone, showing Taehyung a message from Jungkook.

"He's not going to be joining us," Jimin says slowly.

"Where is he?" Hobi asks.

"I don't know," Taehyung lies. "He said something about having a schedule and to just go without him."

"I saw him leave with Tzuyu," Yoongi says as he steps up next to Jimin. "He didn't say anything to her either."

"He'll call us later," Taehyung says.

Jimin looks down at his phone; the other members start to file out of the room, heading out for their ride home.

"Tell us what's going on," Jimin instructs as he gets close to Taehyung.

"I don't know anything," Taehyung repeats.

Jimin stares at him before sighing. He turns to leave but stops and looks back.

"You're a terrible liar," he says before walking away. "I don't care what's going on with the two of them. I just don't want you to get hurt."
