I opened my eyes to a world that didn't feel real.
The sky above me stirred with shades of gray and silver, like a storm frozen in perpetual twilight. There was no sun, no moon, just an endless, swirling expanse that seemed to pulse with a faint light of its own. The air smelled faintly sweet, like overripe fruit, but there was a sharper scent underneath it, metallic and cold, like blood.
The ground beneath me was soft and shifting, as if the earth itself were alive. When I pushed myself to my feet, I realized I was standing in the middle of a strange garden. Twisted, gnarled trees surrounded me, their branches bare of leaves but laden with glowing, pulsating fruit. The fruits radiated a faint light, casting eerie shadows that danced across the blackened grass. Where was I? Was this some part of the sky kingdom?
