I gently placed my hand on the piano. The first note resonated through the room, soft and haunting. This was something I loved doing anytime I was in a foul mood. My fingers moved effortlessly over the piano keys, pulling the melody from somewhere deep inside me. It was a song that showed my anger, sharp and melancholic, echoing the storm of emotions raging in my chest.
The lanterns in the corners of the room cast golden light across the polished floor, the glow reflecting on the ivory keys beneath my fingers. The air was thick with the scent of aged wood and faint traces of Nikki's perfume—a scent that had once pleased me, though now it seemed cloying.
