Prologue

*AUTHOR'S NOTE: This is just a prologue and could be skipped but it is advised to read the prologue first, just to understand the MC's life before the first chapter.*

I had always loved Dragons, so much that I wanted to become one.

Dragons, those ancient mythical beings that breathed fire and wandered in the clouds. You either hate them because of their destructive power or love them because of their natural beauty and raw strength.

Yes, I loved them. Not because of their strength; no, it was something much more complex than that.

At the young age of seven β€” or at least, as far as I could remember β€” was when my silly infatuations began surfacing. I was a great fan of Chinese movies and novels. I read them to pass the time as my parents were rarely at home.

As I aimlessly flipped through those traditional novels, I would always glare at the ancient Dragon drawings and I did the same when I saw them on television. I was shrouded by that infatuation and it completely blinded me. Those same shows and novels brainwashed me into believing in the existence of these Dragons.

Now, that I look back at it, believing in those creatures was one of my greatest mistakes.

At the time, it was believed that these ancient beasts still traversed this world, although hidden. I could always feel the rush of blood whenever I was aroused by those rumors.

As time passed, my parents became increasingly busy, causing me to fall deeply into the pit of misbelief.

Dragons were mythically beautiful creatures and their mysteriousness complemented it. I loved both their strength and beauty, and so I aimed even harder, to become a Dragon Tamer; the first ever one.

Something about the feeling of controlling a dragon amazed me. Although the reason was still unknown to me, I wasn't discouraged. I chased my dream in the absence of my parents.

This all caught up to me on a faithful day when I sighted a shady hospital behind a tall building. It had a billboard which read,

[Step Right Up To Meet Your First Dragon] The message immediately caught my attention. As naive as I was, I entered, filled with excitement.

I had no idea why a hospital would have such a concept as its advertisement but my infatuation for Dragons shrouded my thoughts. After being briefed by a woman who welcomed me, I accepted her terms with a smile on my face.

She took me to a hospital bed as she slowly rested my head on the pillow. From a purse on a cabinet, she brought out a syringe and gently passed it into my arm.

I looked at a few other teenagers sleeping on the bed as an unusual sense of happiness sprouted. Maybe, it was the feeling of finally having people who shared my opinion and love for Dragons.

My eyes slowly shut as I exhaled in relief. My heart slowed down and soon, I lost all consciousness.
