The morning sun cast a warm glow over the castle courtyard as Tai, Ono, Sen, and Yuuki gathered for their first official day of magical training. The air buzzed with anticipation, but one thing was noticeably off—Uzu was nowhere to be found.
Tem approached the group, his expression stern as always. "Your instructor is waiting for you. Sosa Ojai is a seasoned mage who has trained heroes and warriors alike. She doesn't tolerate laziness, so I suggest you give her your full attention."
"Wait," Sen interrupted, glancing around. "Where's Uzu?"
Tem frowned. "The king assigned Uzu to accompany the princess in AryaVart. He won't be joining today's session. Focus on yourselves for now."
The group exchanged uncertain looks but said nothing.
Sosa Ojai was waiting for them in the training grounds behind the castle. She stood tall and imposing, her green robes blending with the earthy surroundings. Her piercing eyes swept over the group as they arrived, immediately assessing their potential.
"You must be the summoned heroes," she said, her voice firm but not unkind. "I am Sosa Ojai. For the next several months, your success or failure will depend on how well you listen and learn. Do I make myself clear?"
"Yes, ma'am," the group chorused.
"Good. Let's begin with introductions. I need to know who I'm working with and what you're capable of."
The Group Introduces Themselves.
Tai stepped forward first, his usual confidence shining through. "I'm Tai Momo. I can use all four elements. People say I'm a natural genius."
Sosa raised an eyebrow but said nothing, motioning for the next person.
Ono followed, his stance calm and composed. "I'm Ono Lamia. My magic is defensive, and my element is air. I prefer strategy and careful planning."
Sosa nodded slightly. "A solid foundation. Defense is often overlooked but can turn the tide of battle."
Sen was next, her fiery personality matching her abilities. "I'm Sen Kai. I specialize in healing and fire magic. I'm ready to work hard."
"Fire and healing is a rare and powerful combination," Sosa remarked. "You'll need to balance aggression and care."
Finally, Yuuki stepped forward. "I'm Yuuki Alive. My magic is air-based, and I can use sealing techniques. I'll give it my all."
"Sealing magic can be critical in battle," Sosa said. "Learn to wield it precisely, and you'll be invaluable."
When no one else stepped forward, Sosa glanced around. "Where is the fifth hero? Uzu Hiko?"
"Uzu is in AryaVart with Princess Rimu," Tai explained, sounding a bit annoyed. "He's... not here today."
Sosa frowned but didn't comment further. "Very well. Let's begin."
Sosa led the group to the open training field, which was designed for elemental practice. Stone pillars, shallow ponds, and patches of grass were scattered across the area, each catering to different types of magic.
"Magic is not just about power," Sosa began. "It's about understanding the element you're connected to. Today, we'll focus on that connection. Each of you will demonstrate your abilities so I can assess your strengths and weaknesses."
She motioned to Tai, "You first."
Tai stepped forward confidently and closed his eyes. A faint breeze stirred around him, followed by a tremor in the ground. Flames flickered on his hands, and water droplets formed in the air.
Sosa nodded. "Impressive, but you lack focus. If you spread your energy too thin, you'll exhaust yourself in battle. Control is key."
Next was Ono, who summoned a swirling barrier of wind that encircled him protectively. His magic was steady and precise, a stark contrast to Tai's showy display.
"Good," Sosa said. "Defense is your strength, and it shows. Build on that."
Sen and Yuuki followed, each displaying their unique abilities. Sen's flames were fierce and bright, while Yuuki's sealing magic demonstrated finesse and precision.
"Both of you have potential," Sosa said. "But potential means nothing without discipline. Remember that."
As the group wrapped up their training, they couldn't help but notice Uzu's absence.
"I hope he's doing something useful," Tai muttered.
Sen shot him a glare. "He's probably feeling out of place. Cut him some slack."
"Still," Ono added thoughtfully, "it's strange. Why would the king send him away on the first day of training?"
"Who knows?" Yuuki said quietly. "But we'll figure it out. For now, we need to focus on our own progress."
Sosa clapped her hands, drawing their attention. "You did well today, but this is only the beginning. Rest now. Tomorrow will be harder."
Then a demon invaded the training field.
