"Sherry, where are you? Are you with someone?" Jaden Yan asked cautiously.
"What's up? Of course, I am not alone," Sherry Nie replied casually.
"It's so late, and you're still out? Who's with you?" Jaden Yan wanted to directly ask if Sherry was with another man but hesitated and probed gently.
"You don't need to know," Sherry teased.
This made Jaden Yan's eyes redden. Already worried, Sherry Nie's deliberate non-answer made him lose his temper.
"Where are you? Who are you with? Why is there a man with you?" Jaden Yan asked angrily.
"What's wrong with you? Are you suspecting me?" Sherry Nie replied, annoyed.
"Sorry, Sherry. I'm not suspecting you. I just got a bit agitated hearing a man's voice," Jaden Yan adjusted his tone.
They had been together for a long time and rarely argued. Jaden Yan's outburst was unusual.
"Hmph, I'm mad. I'm done talking to you!" Sherry Nie said and hung up.
Now Jaden Yan was really anxious. He quickly called back, but Sherry hung up.
Jaden Yan stared at his phone screen, his mind racing with uncontrollable thoughts.
Sherry with another man, so late, what could they be doing? Could they be in the same room, in bed?
These thoughts tormented Jaden Yan, but he kept calling Sherry's number.
At first, Sherry hung up directly, then stopped answering altogether.
Jaden Yan felt miserable, knowing his suspicion was wrong but unable to stop worrying.
With Sherry not answering, he kept sending apologetic texts, hoping she'd see them and answer.
But when Jaden Yan called again, Sherry's phone was off.
This made him even more frantic. He paced around the room, not knowing what to do.
Knock, knock, knock. Just then, there was a knock on his door.
Annoyed, Jaden Yan didn't want to answer, but the knocking continued.
"What is it?" Jaden Yan shouted, opening the door angrily without caring who was outside.
Jenny Ye had expected Jaden Yan to come to her room. When she only heard the door next door close, she felt a bit disappointed but also intrigued.
Confident in her charm, she was surprised by Jaden Yan's indifference, which piqued her interest.
Thinking about him, she decided to bring some fruit as an excuse to chat.
But after knocking for a while with no answer, she was startled by his angry outburst when he finally opened the door.
Frightened, Jenny Ye dropped the fruit, looking at Jaden Yan timidly.
"Sorry, I wasn't angry at you. Something came up," Jaden Yan said, closing his eyes briefly to calm down. He had no mood to entertain Jenny Ye but couldn't ignore her frightened look.
"You... you scared me..." Jenny Ye said weakly.
"Sorry, what do you need?" Jaden Yan asked calmly, though his face was still dark.
"I brought some sweet fruit for you, but they all fell," Jenny Ye pointed to the fruit on the floor.
Jaden Yan frowned slightly, then bent down to pick up the scattered fruit.
"Thanks for the fruit. I'll take it."
"Aren't you inviting me in?" Jenny Ye asked as he was about to close the door.
"The rooms are the same. There's nothing to see. And I said I don't like women being too active. I have work to do," Jaden Yan replied coldly.
"You're really clueless. I just wanted to chat, not necessarily do anything. Why are you rejecting me?" Jenny Ye was annoyed, feeling he underestimated her, as if she was shamelessly trying to sleep with him.
"Sorry, I didn't mean to offend you. I was just... something made me anxious, and I lost my temper. Actually, I do want to chat with you, but..." Jaden Yan, seeing her anger, panicked. If he offended her, his task would be impossible.
He apologized awkwardly, unable to find the right words in his confusion.
"Hmph, I don't care. You scared me, so you must apologize and comfort me!" Jenny Ye said sternly, not sure if she was really angry or pretending.
"Sorry, I didn't mean to scare you. I just... don't know how to comfort you," Jaden Yan said awkwardly.
"You're bad at comforting women. No wonder you're still single. Who knows how many women you've driven away. Go wash the apple and peel it for me!" Jenny Ye rolled her eyes and walked into his room.
Jaden Yan, feeling helpless, followed her instructions, washing and peeling the apple before handing it to her.
"You're such a dummy. Is this how you feed apple?"
Jenny Ye glared at him flirtatiously, taking the apple and knife, cutting a piece and offering it to his mouth.
Jaden Yan, looking at her, nervously ate the piece, forcing a smile.
"What made you so angry? If the reason's good enough, I'll forgive you," Jenny Ye asked casually, though she was very interested in his answer, wanting to understand this strange man better.
"Well... it's mainly work. A well-prepared business deal had a last-minute issue, risking all our efforts," Jaden Yan quickly composed a plausible excuse.
Ring, ring...
Just then, his phone rang again. Seeing it was Sherry calling back, Jaden Yan excitedly grabbed his phone.
