"You should have just stayed inside!" Aiden's voice was harsh to Marina, but he was only looking out for her... moreover, he was concerned.
Marina replied in her defense. "And let you get shot at alone? Nah, not happening."
"This isn't up for debate!" Aiden snapped at her, his voice rising slightly. "Every time you throw yourself into danger, you make it harder for me to focus!"
"I'm not a liability, Aiden. I handled myself just fine."
"Enough!" Mr. Jones interrupted, he stood in the doorway, his usually composed demeanor shaken today. "What the hell is going on, people? Who just attacked my home?"
Aiden took a steadying breath, forcing his anger to subside. "Maxwell's men," he replied, his tone calmer. "This was a warning."
