Sophie Cameron awoke to the sensation of being shaken awake, squinted her eyes, and opened them. She was perplexed at first and looked at the person who was shaking her awake.
She did not anticipate seeing her mother again, so tears clouded her vision as she realized who it was. Sophie said to the older woman, "Mom, we're in heaven, right?" "In heaven, my foot, what tricks are you playing this time? You're not going to get married to that man, and that's the end of it," the older woman said, sounding irritated, before she bounded out of the room. She then returned, opened the door again, and looked at Sophie, saying, "And you're going to that interview next week." After saying that, the older woman shut the door once again.
Sophie sat there in a stupor, wondering what was going on; her mother had died eleven years ago, and she had recently died, which is why she felt she was in heaven. "And what about the job interview next week?" Sophie pondered to herself. She did not grasp what was happening until she saw the calendar that was pasted on the wall. Her thoughts went blank for a while, and she rose up to confirm that what she was witnessing was correct. Sophie questioned why the calendar was showing April 2013, when we were supposed to be in 2024.
She quickly came out of her thoughts and scrambled around the room in search of her phone, which she eventually found at the bottom of the bed. She checked the date on it because she suspected the calendar was incorrect, and her body shuddered when the phone displayed that they were indeed in the year 2013. She instantly collapsed to the ground and sobbed in anguish. "My daughters, I'm sorry, your mother was useless," she sobbed loudly.
Flashback.....
The man who brought her tragedy was named Robert Walker, and he came from an ordinary family. Sophie's family was a well-to-do family; they were not extremely affluent, but they could be termed prosperous. Sophie met Robert Walker in university, and they began dating until they graduated. Sophie did not want to date him, but Robert persuaded her with his passionate act and always acted all lovey-dovey with her; they were a pair that caused jealousy at school.
After graduating from university, she introduced Robert to her parents as the person she wanted to marry, but both she and Robert were rejected by her parents. Her parents maintained that she could not marry him since Robert did not give them a nice vibe. Sophie clashed with her parents over Robert, accusing them of purposefully preventing them from marrying because Robert comes from a poor background. Robert encouraged her not to quarrel with her parents since they only want what is best for their daughter, but he will continue to love her and do everything in his power to earn her parents' favor.
Sophie's desire to fight it out with her parents was increased when she told her parents that she adored Robert and that he was a decent man who loved her sincerely, and that if her parents insisted on splitting her up with him, she would commit suicide.
Sophie's parents were so upset by what Sophie said that they grounded her and told her not to leave the house again. They advised Sophie that Robert was clearly manipulating her, but she refused to listen to her parents' reasoning because she was so in love with Robert and did not feel manipulated by him. She remembered that after they grounded her, she went on a hunger strike and refused to eat for three days, and she fainted on the third day. Her parents quickly invited doctors to treat her, and while they were heartbroken to see their daughter in that state, they insisted that she could not marry Robert.
Due to her parents' sadness, they did not prevent her best friend Alice Peter from seeing her, expecting that seeing her closest friend would lift her spirits. They let her best friend in, unaware that her best friend was brought to her by Robert. Alice delivered her a letter written by Robert, and in the letter, Robert informed her that he has thought it through and that they should elope because her parents will not agree for her to marry him.
She read from the letter that their best chance for elopement is when she goes for the job interview. Robert wrote that she should provide some money to Alice so that Alice can pass it on to him, and he will prepare everything they will need for their upkeep.
Sophie was overjoyed that, despite everything her parents were doing, he still wanted to be with her; she felt grateful and gladly passed all of her savings to Alice; from that day forward, she stopped her hunger strike and began eating every day, looking happy; her parents assumed she had thought it through and had finally stopped insisting on marrying Robert. So it came as no surprise that on the day of the interview, her parents had not made arrangements for anyone to look after her, and she and Robert were able to elope that day.
