Chapter 57 - The Birth Of The Twins

The tension in the air was thick as Lucas paced outside the hospital room. His shirt was untucked, and his usually calm demeanor was nowhere to be seen. He kept glancing at his watch, but time seemed to move slower with every passing second. Inside, Amelia was in labor, surrounded by nurses and doctors. The cries of pain from behind the door made Lucas feel helpless, but he knew he had to stay strong for her.

Amelia gripped the bedrails tightly, beads of sweat rolling down her face. She looked at the nurse with a mix of exhaustion and determination. "How much longer?" she whispered.

"Not long, Mrs. Blake," the nurse assured her. "You're doing great."

Amelia clenched her teeth as another contraction hit. Despite the pain, she thought about the journey that had brought her here. From the power struggles and secrets to the enemies lurking in the shadows, she had faced countless challenges. But this moment becoming a mother felt like the most important battle of her life.

In the waiting area, Lucas was joined by Victoria. Her sudden presence startled him. "What are you doing here?" he asked, his tone sharp.

Victoria smirked. "I just came to offer my congratulations in advance. After all, family moments like these are rare."

Lucas didn't trust her intentions. "This isn't the time for your games, Victoria. Leave."

Victoria's eyes narrowed, but she didn't push further. Instead, she walked away, her high heels clicking ominously against the floor.

Back in the delivery room, Amelia's cries turned into deep breaths as the doctor announced, "The first baby is here!"

A loud, healthy cry filled the room, and the nurse handed the baby to Amelia. She looked at her newborn with tears streaming down her face. "It's a boy," the nurse said, smiling.

Lucas burst into the room at that moment, unable to wait any longer. His eyes softened as he saw Amelia holding their son. "He's perfect," Lucas whispered, his voice breaking.

But before he could soak in the moment, the doctor interrupted, "We're not done yet. Baby number two is on the way."

Amelia nodded, summoning the last bit of her strength. The second baby's delivery was quicker, and soon, the room was filled with another cry. "It's a girl!" the nurse exclaimed.

Lucas held both babies in his arms, overwhelmed by emotion. He kissed Amelia's forehead. "You're incredible," he said, his voice filled with love and admiration.

For a brief moment, it felt like all their problems had melted away. The sight of their twins—tiny, innocent, and full of life—was enough to make them forget about the chaos outside. Lucas and Amelia decided to name the boy Noah and the girl Lily, both names symbolizing hope and purity.

As the nurses took the twins to the nursery, Lucas sat beside Amelia, holding her hand. "I promise I'll do everything to keep our family safe," he vowed.

Amelia smiled weakly. "I believe you, Lucas. But we need to be prepared. The world outside this room isn't going to stop."

Just as they began to relax, Lucas's phone buzzed on the bedside table. He hesitated before picking it up, not wanting to disturb the peace of the moment. The message was from an unknown number:

"Congratulations on the twins. Enjoy the calm while it lasts. Things are about to get interesting. – V"

Lucas's face darkened as he read the message. He immediately recognized the signature. It was Victoria.

"What is it?" Amelia asked, sensing his tension.

Lucas hesitated before showing her the message. "She knows," he said grimly.

Before Amelia could respond, the lights in the hospital flickered, and a loud bang echoed from down the hallway. Lucas instinctively moved to shield Amelia.

"What's happening?" Amelia whispered, fear evident in her voice.

Lucas stood, his jaw clenched. "Stay here. I'll find out."

Amelia grabbed his wrist before he could leave. "Lucas, please be careful. We don't know who or what's out there." Her voice was a mix of fear and concern.

He gave her hand a reassuring squeeze. "I'll be fine. Just stay with the babies. Lock the door after I leave."

Reluctantly, she nodded, and Lucas stepped into the dimly lit hallway. The hospital's emergency lights flickered, casting eerie shadows on the walls. The loud bang they'd heard earlier had come from the lower floor, but the silence that followed was unnerving.

Lucas moved cautiously, his senses on high alert. His footsteps echoed softly in the quiet corridor as he approached the elevator. The glowing floor indicators showed that someone had stopped it on their floor.

He reached into his pocket and pulled out his phone, dialing Martin. The call went straight to voicemail. Frowning, Lucas quickly texted him, explaining the situation and asking for backup. He knew better than to face this alone if the threat was real.

The elevator dinged, and Lucas froze. The doors slid open slowly, revealing an empty cabin. His muscles tensed. Was it a trick, or had someone already stepped out?

Suddenly, a shadow moved at the edge of his vision. He spun around, fists clenched, ready to fight. "Who's there?" he demanded, his voice low but firm.

No response.

He took a cautious step forward, scanning every corner. His gut told him he wasn't alone. Just as he was about to round the corner, a hand clamped over his shoulder. Lucas reacted instinctively, spinning and throwing a punch.

"Whoa! Easy, boss!" Martin's voice stopped him mid-swing.

Lucas exhaled sharply, lowering his fist. "Martin, what are you doing here?"

Martin straightened his jacket. "I got your message. Security reported some suspicious activity near the hospital. I came to check it out myself."

Lucas frowned. "Suspicious activity? Like what?"

Before Martin could answer, the sound of glass shattering echoed from another hallway. Both men turned toward the noise, exchanging a grim look.

"Stay close," Lucas ordered, his tone leaving no room for argument.

The two moved in sync, following the sound. They reached a window at the end of the corridor, shards of glass scattered across the floor. The cold night air blew in through the broken pane.

Lucas leaned out slightly, scanning the parking lot below. Nothing seemed out of place, but his instincts told him this wasn't random vandalism.

"Whoever did this was sending a message," Martin muttered, kicking a large shard of glass aside.

Lucas nodded. "And they want us to know they're watching."

As they turned to leave, a faint sound caught their attention a soft beeping coming from the opposite direction. Lucas's eyes narrowed. "What now?"

They followed the noise, leading them to a storage room. Inside, a small red light blinked on a device strapped to the wall. Lucas's heart sank as he realized what it was.

"A tracker," Martin whispered, his voice tense. "Someone's monitoring the hospital."

Lucas's mind raced. "If they're tracking us here, it means…" His voice trailed off as a horrifying thought struck him.

"They're after Amelia and the babies," he finished, his voice barely above a whisper.

Martin grabbed his arm. "We need to move them now. There's no time to waste."

Before they could act, the hospital intercom crackled to life. A distorted voice echoed through the speakers:

"Lucas Blake, your time is running out. Surrender, or your family won't make it out of here alive."

The voice faded, leaving an ominous silence in its wake. Lucas's jaw tightened, his mind racing with possibilities. Who was behind this? And how far were they willing to go?

He turned to Martin, his eyes blazing with determination. "Get everyone to safety. I'll handle this."

As Lucas sprinted back toward Amelia's room, the hallway lights flickered again, casting long, menacing shadows. He knew this was only the beginning of a much larger fight.

Amelia's voice called out faintly from behind the locked door. "Lucas? What's happening?"

"I'm coming," he shouted, his heart pounding.

But just as he reached for the door handle, a dark figure stepped out of the shadows, blocking his path.
