Chapter 61 - A Public Revelation

Amelia stood in the middle of the living room, her hands gripping the edges of a newspaper. The headline screamed in bold letters: "Business Tycoon Caught in Scandalous Allegations!" Her eyes darted across the lines, her heart pounding as the article laid out intricate details of Michael's dealings. It was the very evidence they had been gathering, now plastered across every media outlet.

She couldn't decide if she felt relief or dread. The public now knew Michael's dark secrets, but the fallout would undoubtedly be massive.

The front door burst open, and Lucas rushed in, his face flushed with a mixture of anger and urgency. "Amelia, have you seen it?" he asked, pointing to the television, where a news anchor was discussing Michael's exposed schemes.

"I saw," Amelia replied, her voice steady despite the whirlwind of emotions brewing inside her. "But this wasn't our plan, Lucas. We were supposed to release the information strategically, not all at once."

Lucas paced the room, running his hand through his hair. "I know! Someone leaked it. This wasn't us, but whoever it was just made Michael a cornered animal."

Amelia's brows furrowed. "A cornered animal is the most dangerous, Lucas. We have to be ready for his retaliation."

The media frenzy escalated throughout the day. Reporters camped outside Michael's office, bombarding his associates with questions. Stock prices for his company plummeted, and legal experts debated the repercussions of the allegations.

Amelia and Lucas watched the chaos unfold from their home, their phones buzzing incessantly with messages from allies and informants.

One call stood out. It was from Victoria.

Amelia answered cautiously. "Victoria, what do you want?"

"I warned you to be careful," Victoria said, her voice icy. "Michael knows it was you who orchestrated this. He's coming for you both. And trust me, he's not alone this time."

Lucas leaned closer to the phone, his jaw tightening. "If you're here to threaten us, don't bother. We've prepared for every scenario."

Victoria's laugh sent chills down Amelia's spine. "Every scenario? You think you're untouchable, don't you? Michael's allies go deeper than you realize. This is just the beginning."

Later that afternoon, Amelia and Lucas held an emergency meeting with their closest confidants. The room was filled with tension as everyone tried to make sense of the leak.

"It's only a matter of time before Michael strikes back," Martin said, his face pale. "He's already spreading rumors to discredit you both."

Lucas slammed his fist on the table. "Let him try. The public knows the truth now. He can't silence everyone."

Amelia stood, her voice calm but firm. "We need to stay ahead. Let's focus on consolidating our allies and preparing for the legal battles. We can't afford to be complacent."

As the meeting ended, Amelia couldn't shake the feeling that they were missing something crucial. The leak had forced their hand, but was it really an unplanned event? Or was someone manipulating them from the shadows?

That evening, Lucas received a call from an unknown number. Against his better judgment, he answered.

"Lucas," the voice on the other end drawled. It was Michael. "Congratulations on your little victory. I must admit, I underestimated you."

Lucas's grip tightened on the phone. "Your games are over, Michael. The world knows who you really are."

Michael chuckled darkly. "Do they? Or do they just know what you want them to see? You think you've won, but all you've done is open a door you can't close."

"What do you mean?" Lucas demanded, his voice rising.

"You'll see," Michael replied cryptically before ending the call.

Lucas stared at the phone, his mind racing. Michael's tone wasn't one of defeat. It was something else—calculated, dangerous.

The next day, Amelia and Lucas decided to address the media directly. They stood together on a stage, cameras flashing as reporters shouted questions. Amelia took a deep breath and stepped up to the microphone.

"Thank you all for being here," she began. "The recent revelations about Michael have been a long time coming. We believe in accountability, and we will not stop until justice is served."

The crowd erupted into applause, but Amelia noticed something odd. In the back of the room, a man in a suit was whispering into a device, his eyes locked on her.

Lucas noticed too. He leaned toward her. "Do you see that guy? Something's off."

Before Amelia could respond, the man left the room abruptly.

hat night, Amelia received an envelope slipped under the door. She opened it carefully, her heart pounding as she read the single line scrawled across the paper:

"The truth you revealed is only the beginning. Be ready for the end."

Her breath hitched, and she turned to Lucas, who was already reading over her shoulder.

"Lucas," she whispered, her voice trembling. "What does this mean?"

Lucas's expression darkened. "It means we're not done yet."

The revelation left them both staring at each other, realizing that while they had exposed Michael, a far greater threat was looming in the shadows.
