Chapter 63 - The Grand Gesture

Amelia sat by the window, her mind swirling with worry. The betrayal note was still fresh in her hands, its haunting words echoing in her thoughts. Despite the turmoil, she knew one thing: she couldn't let fear dictate her actions.

Lucas entered the room, his shoulders tense but his face determined. "Amelia, we can't keep waiting for the next attack. We need to make a move, something bold—something they won't see coming."

Amelia looked up at him, searching his face. "What do you have in mind?"

Lucas took her hands in his. "A grand gesture, one that flips the narrative and shows the world who we really are. I want to go public—not just with the truth about Michael but also with us. Let's show everyone the strength of our unity."

The idea was risky. If they revealed their relationship and stood together publicly, it would put a target on their backs, but it would also send a message: they weren't afraid.

Amelia and Lucas gathered their team. Despite the earlier tension, those who remained were fiercely loyal. Amelia laid out the plan: a live event where they would share their side of the story, backed by the evidence Karen had provided.

"Are you sure about this?" Martin asked, his skepticism clear.

"We have no choice," Amelia replied firmly. "Michael is controlling the narrative. It's time we take it back."

The next few days were a whirlwind of activity. Invitations were sent to trusted journalists, the venue was secured, and their team worked tirelessly to fact-check and compile every shred of evidence.

Lucas also arranged for heightened security. "If Michael tries anything, we'll be ready," he assured Amelia.

Despite the chaos, Lucas found time to surprise Amelia with a quiet dinner on the eve of the event. "You've been incredible through all of this," he said softly. "I want you to know that no matter what happens tomorrow, I'm proud of you."

Amelia smiled, her heart swelling. "We're in this together, Lucas. And we'll face whatever comes together."

The day of the event arrived, and the venue buzzed with anticipation. Media crews set up their equipment, while supporters and skeptics alike filled the seats.

Amelia and Lucas stood backstage, going over their speech one last time. Amelia's hands trembled slightly, but Lucas gave her a reassuring squeeze. "You've got this," he whispered.

As they stepped onto the stage, the room fell silent. Cameras flashed, and the weight of the moment pressed down on them.

Amelia began, her voice steady despite the nerves. "Good afternoon. Many of you have heard the accusations against us, the rumors, and the lies. Today, we're here to set the record straight."

Lucas took over, presenting the evidence they had gathered. He spoke with conviction, detailing Michael's corrupt dealings and the lengths he had gone to silence his opponents.

The audience listened intently, their expressions shifting from skepticism to shock as the truth unfolded.

Amelia took a deep breath, preparing for the most personal part of their message. "This fight hasn't just been about exposing corruption. It's been about protecting what matters most—our family."

She placed a hand on her stomach, her voice breaking slightly. "I'm pregnant with twins, and everything we've done has been for their future. We want them to grow up in a world where justice matters."

The crowd gasped, and murmurs rippled through the room. The vulnerability of her statement struck a chord with many.

Lucas stepped closer to her, wrapping an arm around her shoulders. "We're not perfect, but we're fighting for what's right. And we won't stop until justice prevails."

The room erupted into applause as Amelia and Lucas finished their speech. But just as they began to leave the stage, a commotion broke out near the entrance. Security guards rushed toward the disturbance, and a man pushed through the crowd, shouting, "You're not telling the whole story!"

Amelia froze, her heart pounding. The man was holding a folder, waving it in the air. "There's more to this than you know!" he yelled.

Lucas stepped forward, his eyes narrowing. "Who are you, and what do you want?"

The man handed the folder to a nearby journalist, who quickly opened it and began reading. His face paled as he looked up. "This changes everything," he whispered.

Amelia and Lucas exchanged a worried glance as the journalist addressed the crowd. "This folder contains evidence implicating not just Michael, but someone else—someone close to you."

Amelia's breath caught in her throat as the journalist continued. "It appears there's a second player in this game, someone who's been working with Michael from the inside."

The room erupted into chaos as questions flew and cameras zoomed in on Amelia and Lucas.

Amelia's mind raced, her earlier fears about a mole resurfacing. Could it be someone from their team? Or was it someone even closer?

Lucas grabbed her hand, his voice steady but filled with tension. "We need to figure this out. Now."

Before she could respond, a phone buzzed in her pocket. She pulled it out and read the message:

"You're in deeper than you think. Trust no one not even him."

Amelia's head snapped up, her eyes locking with Lucas's. Doubt flickered in her gaze as she whispered, "What if they're right?"
