Lucas stood in the middle of the grand hallway, his mind racing as the events of the past few days swirled around him. He could hear the distant sound of footsteps echoing down the corridor, but they seemed far away, as if they were in another world. The twins, Amelia, and the others had all been running circles around him. The truth seemed to be slipping through his fingers no matter how hard he tried to grasp it.
He had always been in control. He was the one who made the decisions, who took the risks, and who carried the weight of his family's legacy. But now, with everything falling apart around him, Lucas felt a deep sense of helplessness. The weight on his shoulders had never felt heavier. For the first time in his life, he wasn't sure what to do.
"Lucas!" Amelia's voice cut through his thoughts, pulling him back to the present. She was running toward him, her face a mix of urgency and concern.
He didn't move at first. His gaze remained fixed on the empty corridor in front of him, his thoughts still tangled in the web of secrets and lies. How had things gone so wrong? How had he let it get to this point?
"Lucas," she repeated, this time softer. She placed a hand on his arm, her touch warm, grounding him.
He turned slowly to face her, his eyes meeting hers. "I don't know how much longer I can keep this up, Amelia." His voice was low, barely a whisper. "I'm not sure what's real anymore."
Amelia's heart ached as she watched him. The strong, confident man she had come to admire was no longer standing in front of her. Instead, there was someone who seemed lost, unsure of where to turn. His vulnerability, something she had never seen before, shook her to the core.
"You're not alone in this, Lucas," she said softly. "You don't have to carry everything on your own."
He let out a bitter laugh. "That's all I've ever done, Amelia. I've carried everything—my family, my company, my name. I've always been the one to make the hard decisions. But now, I can't even figure out who's trying to tear me down from the inside."
Amelia reached for his hand, holding it tightly. "You don't have to figure it out alone. We can do this together."
He shook his head, his expression grim. "I don't know if I can trust anyone anymore, Amelia. I thought I knew my family, my friends. But everything is falling apart. People I thought I could rely on have been hiding secrets from me, playing their own games. And now, it's all coming back to destroy us."
"Not everyone," Amelia said firmly. "I'm here. I won't turn my back on you, Lucas."
He looked into her eyes, searching for something—an answer, a solution, anything that could give him some hope. For a moment, he saw the strength in her gaze, the unwavering support she had always shown him. And it gave him a small sense of relief, a feeling he hadn't experienced in a long time.
But just as he was about to speak, the sound of footsteps grew louder, interrupting their moment.
"Lucas," a voice called out from behind him. It was his brother, Daniel.
Lucas's expression hardened instantly. "What do you want, Daniel?"
Daniel's eyes flickered with a mixture of caution and determination. "I need to talk to you. It's important."
Amelia stepped back, sensing the tension between the two brothers. She knew that things had been strained between them for some time, but she wasn't sure what had caused it. There was so much that Lucas hadn't told her—so many layers to the man she had come to care about.
"I'm not in the mood for another one of your lectures, Daniel," Lucas said, his voice sharp.
"This is different," Daniel said, his voice steady. "I know what you've been trying to hide. I know about Victoria, and I know about the deal you made with her."
Lucas's eyes narrowed. "What are you talking about?"
"You think you've kept it all hidden," Daniel continued, stepping closer. "But I know the truth. I know everything."
Amelia watched, confused and alarmed, as the brothers exchanged a charged look. Lucas's face tightened, and she could see the tension in his posture. He was on edge, the vulnerability from earlier slipping away as a more familiar mask of anger and control settled over him.
"You think you know everything?" Lucas asked, his voice low and threatening. "You don't know anything, Daniel."
But Daniel wasn't intimidated. "You don't have to protect me, Lucas. I'm not the one who's been hiding things. But now, it's time to come clean. The family needs to know the truth, or it's all going to fall apart."
Lucas's jaw clenched. "I've already told you everything I'm willing to tell. And if you continue digging, you'll regret it."
Daniel's face hardened. "I'm not afraid of you anymore, Lucas. You've lost your grip on everything. And now, I'm going to make sure the truth comes out, whether you like it or not."
Amelia stood in stunned silence, watching the exchange between the brothers. She had never seen Lucas so defensive, so angry. But the look in Daniel's eyes—there was something dangerous behind it, something that suggested he wasn't afraid of the consequences.
"Why are you doing this, Daniel?" Lucas asked, his voice raw with frustration.
"Because it's time," Daniel said, his voice firm. "It's time to face the truth."
Amelia felt a chill run down her spine. She had no idea what was going on between the brothers, but it was clear that things were unraveling. Lucas had always been the one who held everything together, but now it seemed like the foundation was cracking, and everything was slipping away.
Lucas stood there, his fists clenched at his sides. "If you think you can take control of this, go ahead. But be warned, Daniel. You're playing a dangerous game."
Daniel didn't flinch. "I've never been afraid of danger. And this game? It's bigger than either of us."
A heavy silence fell over them, the weight of their words hanging in the air. Amelia didn't know what to say. The tension between the brothers was thick enough to cut with a knife. She could see the strain in Lucas's eyes, the fear of losing everything he had worked for. And in Daniel's eyes, she saw something different—a desire for control, a need to bring everything to light, no matter the cost.
Just then, there was a sudden noise from the end of the hallway. A figure appeared in the distance, walking toward them with purpose. Amelia's heart skipped a beat as she recognized the figure.
It was Victoria.
And she wasn't alone.
