Chapter 10: Enemies in the Shadows
---
Return to Lyndor
After a long journey through the Dark Forest of Tirmel, Kano and his team finally arrived back in Lyndor. The city, usually bustling with adventurers, now felt unusually quiet. The air was heavy, as though something was amiss.
"Why does it feel so eerie?" Reina asked, observing the deserted streets.
"Maybe news of the Voidus creatures' attacks has spread," Dorian replied. "Fear can make people hide."
They quickly headed to the guild to report their findings. Master Arvyn greeted them with a grim expression. "You succeeded in retrieving the second Fragment, but our situation has worsened."
Arvyn pointed to a map on his desk. "The Voidus creatures' attacks are escalating. Villages around Lyndor are starting to suffer. Worse still, there are reports of someone seemingly leading these creatures."
"What do you mean by 'someone'?" Kano asked, frowning.
"It's not just mindless creatures we're dealing with," Arvyn replied. "There's someone controlling them, someone extremely powerful. I suspect they're connected to the Voidus Fragments."
Kano felt a sharp pang in his chest. If this enemy controlled the Voidus creatures, they might also be searching for the Fragments. This would make their journey even more dangerous.

The Mysterious Figure
That night, Kano stood on the guild balcony, gazing at the dimly glowing moon in the sky. He reflected on Arvyn's words, trying to imagine what this enemy might look like. Were they like him? Or something entirely different?
"Kano," Reina's voice called from behind. She approached and stood beside him. "You look worried."
"What if I'm not strong enough for this?" he asked softly. "The Voidus creatures alone are tough enough, and now there's someone leading them."
Reina looked at him kindly. "You're not alone. We're all here to support you. And don't forget, you've come this far. You're stronger than you think."
Kano nodded, though his heart still felt heavy. He knew Reina was right, but the shadow of this enemy continued to haunt his thoughts.
---
Midnight Attack
As the night deepened, Lyndor was suddenly shaken by the sound of a massive explosion. Kano leaped out of bed, grabbed his sword, and rushed outside. The streets were filled with smoke and flames, while townspeople ran in panic.
"They're here!" a fellow adventurer shouted, pointing to the sky.
From within the smoke, Voidus creatures emerged. This time, there were more of them, and they seemed more organized. Kano quickly joined Reina, Dorian, Lyra, and Tharn in the town center.
"This isn't a random attack," Dorian said, drawing his sword. "They're being directed here."
Kano felt the runes on his body begin to glow. He could sense an intense Voidus energy, far stronger than he had ever felt before. "He's here," he murmured.
"Who?" Lyra asked.
"Their leader," Kano replied.

Meeting the Enemy
From the darkness, a mysterious figure emerged. Cloaked in black with glowing red runes etched along the fabric, their face was hidden in shadow, but their eyes glowed a deep crimson, radiating power.
"So, we finally meet," the figure said in a deep, resonating voice. "You must be Kano."
Kano glared at him. "Who are you?"
The figure chuckled softly. "My name doesn't matter. What matters is that I am the harbinger of this world's destruction. And you… are merely a small obstacle in my path."
Reina stepped forward. "Then why not eliminate this obstacle now?"
The figure smirked, raising a hand. The Voidus energy in the air grew heavier, making the entire team struggle to breathe. "There's no need to rush. You'll soon understand that opposing me is a mistake."
With a single motion, the figure created a dark portal. Larger Voidus creatures began emerging, wreaking havoc on the town.
"We have to stop them!" Tharn shouted.
"Kano, focus on that creature," Dorian instructed. "We'll protect the townsfolk."
---
A Race Against Time
Kano faced one of the largest Voidus creatures he had ever seen—a chimera with three heads, each emanating Voidus energy. With the runes on his body glowing brightly, he created an energy sword larger than ever before.
The creature attacked with claws and blasts of energy, but Kano skillfully dodged each strike. Every blow he landed sent shockwaves through his body, but he refused to give up.
Meanwhile, Reina, Lyra, and Tharn worked together to protect the townsfolk. They used a combination of physical and magical attacks to hold off the smaller creatures pouring out of the portal.
"This won't stop until we destroy the portal!" Lyra shouted.
"I have an idea!" Reina exclaimed. She fired a magic arrow at the portal, but it deflected harmlessly. "What?!"
"The portal is shielded by their leader's magic!" Lyra replied. "We have to take down the main creature first!"
Hearing this, Kano focused on the chimera. He realized this creature was the key to stopping the attack. With one final, powerful strike, he shattered the energy core within the chimera, breaking it into fragments.
As the chimera fell, the portal began to tremble before finally collapsing. The remaining Voidus creatures retreated into the darkness, leaving the town in ruins.

A Warning from the Shadows
The cloaked figure reappeared atop a building, gazing at Kano with a cryptic expression. "You're strong, Kano. But this is just the beginning."
"What do you want from me?" Kano shouted.
"I want this world. And you, Kano, will be the key to unlocking it," he replied before vanishing into the shadows.
Kano stood amidst the wreckage, clutching his equilibrium pendant tightly. He realized this enemy was more than just an ordinary threat. This was a war for the future of the world—and he was at its center.
